All England plays are poor when it comes to playing in any competition. He has a 1 in 2 record for England and just under 200 goals for both United and Everton.

You may not like him as a person but he has as much right as John Terry being this high up in the list imo

Rooney is hugely overrated. Some of the players he's above in this is quite laughable.
He is underrated if anything these days. He's been consistently excellent for ten years, has been one of the best players in the league almost every season, has been Manchester United's best player (despite the signings of Di Maria, Falcao and RVP) for about a decade. His salary throws people off, they claim he's overrated even though the only time you hear fans speaking about him (other than United fans) is to complain about his salary or to call him overrated.

He didn't live up to the hype, but to be fair to Rooney, he would have needed his career to parallel Cristiano Ronaldo's or Lionel Messi's to have fulfilled the expectation put on his shoulders. Add this to the England team being a disaster and he catches far too much flak for his career.

There may be better players behind him on this list, but how many of them have spent their entire career in the league and had as much impact on the Premier League as Wayne Rooney? This is a player that provides so much more than goals, yet he's third on the all-time goalscoring list (soon to be second) with 3-4 more years to play at the top level, he could conceivably overtake Shearer by the end of his career. Five Premier League titles (all of which he was integral to), multiple team of the year appearances and Ballon D'or nominations.

People are fucking deluded when it comes to Rooney's career and not in his favour.

Think people are a bit annoyed that Rooney never delivered at a major tournament for England (apart from Euro 2004). But how many times do you see a young guy burst onto the scene like he did when he scored against Arsenal, leave his boyhood club, start a love/hate relationship with them and be a successful player for one of the biggest club in the world? Granted he had the guidance of SAF which is seriously fucking important when you're young but he worked very hard every single season. It's not like he got it all his own way either. At times he was shifted on the wing by Fergie and I recall United fans saying what a tragic waste he was there but you never saw him complain and he finally got to play in the position he is world-class in which is AM. His range of passing excelled and he became a leader as the years went by.
He's been around for a while but he'll certainly remain one of the most influential players of the 2005-2015 decade.

Did you not? I'm pretty sure he threw his toys out of the pram a few times because he wasn't being played where he wanted to

Replace you by I then. And I've watched him a fair bit throughout his career.

Exactly this. It gets fucking annoying at people who claim he isn't a world class player when he has done so much for Manchester United since joining them. He has been poor for England, but to be fair, England is just a shit team in general. As far as I'm aware, he hasn't been great this season, but he was easily United's best player last season when Moyes was still around and carried them several times.

Same goes with Andrea Pirlo. People can what they want about both players, but they are nowhere near overrated. This post is spot on.

Rooney is definitely not a world class advanced midfielder. His first touch is often horrific, as is his decision making and speed of thought. He slows the game down far too much playing there. He's a forward who has spent a large part of his career out of position, for whatever reason. Very talented player though, ofc.

Yeah Rooney can be a little bitch when he wants a wage boost. I meant on the pitch though.

I've always thought its a shame he hasn't been played as a number 9 more often. His talent though is the reason he's been played in different positions throughout his career. Wonderful player good enough to play in any league around the world

Which is absolute bollocks.

Keane may be a psycho and not a particularly nice man, but what a fucking player he was in the 1990s. I really liked his early days at United when he was a box-to-boxer expected to get goals. His winner in the 3-2 win at Maine Road sticks in the mind.

I also missed Keane's best years and I think the years Viera erupted to be one of the best CMs in the world, Keane was starting to come of age. Not that I'm biased on anything.

14 Terry, 13 Rooney, 12 Keane.

What an utterly dislikeable countdown this is turning into.
