I fancy a 3-way battle at the top between Wednesday, Derby, and Bolton. Intriguing league.

Here's the supercomputer's predictions..

I think the supercomputer needs a good hard reboot there.

I haven't kept up with others' signings but there is no way we'll be champions.

Could be good for playoffs again if we can do some late business in the transfer window, but I don't think we've strengthened anywhere near enough for autos.

Our finish will be dependent on us making big signings. We haven't strengthened badly, we just need quality and numbers right now.

Another six as a bare minimum which is a lot to make up, but not necessarily bad if the quality is there. Time will tell before we can be spoken of as top six quality.

Gas to finish bottom with 100% certainty of relegation if this is to be believed;

Supercomputer L1 predictions

Would love to know what numbers they put in to calculate that as I think your squad looks alright. Not world-beaters but then who is at this level. I’d have you comfortably mid table maybe with a view to top 12 if all goes right.

I can understand why it has us low down as frankly right now we only have 17 pros on the books and there are unsubstantiated rumours that Wilson has picked up a knock of some sort. By the end of the window though I think/hope that will look very different for us too.

I'm treating it as pure Mirror clickbait, still plenty of window time left for all teams.

Our squad is a weaker than last season as we have a lot more going out than coming in, although bar Elliott Anderson (who was a freak for L2) I think the starting XI is as strong as the team that have done so well this year.

This team is 10x better than the team that finished bottom last time we were in L1, so it's hard to believe they will also finish bottom unless L1 has improved massively.

You guys will always have a chance with Garrity, Proctor and Wilson as goal threats, especially if Conlon is returning to full fitness soon? Think we will both be mid-table at least which suits me for the first season back, although im sure Darrell and Joey will have bigger ambitions!!

On the subject of Elliott Anderson what’s happening with him as been very quiet? If you were to bring him back that’s just a cheat code in either of the bottom two divisions.

Conlon did an interview while out in Spain basically saying he was running at about 80% so while I don’t anticipate him being ready for Fleetwood opening day it won’t be that much longer. Will be very much needed, it’s pretty remarkable really we got promoted without the use of our best player for so long. Because of the fact we will need to bed in a lot of players and also only had two friendlies I’m expecting a slow start. With that said nearly all DC managed teams usually do start off slowly then pick up as you go deeper into the season so reckon will see the same again.

Load of rubbish that. Rovers Bottom? Shrews have made some decent signings and they are down.

Could happen of course but think the super computer is more likely a load of rubbish.

It's nice that we're getting written off, generally. Our squad looks much stronger and better balanced than last season, and Cowley has now built it to his liking with just Ronan Curtis left from the Jackett regime.

I know other fans feel similarly about their club's progress. However, putting us in or around the relegation zone seems ridiculous, frankly.

I'll put in my predictions closer to kick-off.

Think I had us as 10th last year.

We're weaker than the end of last season IMO, at the very best on par.

Darrells team always do tend to start off slowly. Even in our conference season we took a while to get going. Even now I cant remember the last time we got off to a really good start. Last season we gave everyone a head start and didnt get going until the turn of the year.

Elliott Anderson would walk into any team in L1 or L2 so its not surprising he is featuring in Newcastles first team friendlies now, and more importantly he is impressing them too. If he does go back on loan I would imagine it would be Championship level.

Yeah no doubting Conlon is a very decent player. everything seemed to go through him at our place last season, although there was a bit of gamesmanship in getting Finley sent off. You have a habit of picking up players not performing for one team and getting the best out of them!..similar to Exeter.

Do fancy us this season, but I did last season. So let's see where we are come Christmas. It's L1 afterall and I think it might be the most unpredictable English league; at least until it starts to take shape after 15-20.

I did see us in the bottom 4 in one prediction. I think the perception of being skinflints doesn't help.

A Harness replacement and a third striker (with pace), and I think we'll do better than last years tenth. Not certain i'd put us top six though. IF miraculously that 3rd striker was Hirst, then i'd say we were contenders.

So that leaves Pompey, Us, Oxford, Bolton, Wycombe and Charlton all out of the top 6. Very very competitive league, I’m expecting a 50/50 split again this season, top 12 pulling away from the bottom 12.

21st. Cheltenham
22nd. Forest Green
23rd. Exeter
24th. Morecambe

Equally as tough to predict the bottom 4. Cheltenham because they lost Duff, FGR because they lost some key players, Exeter because they haven’t signed anyone and Morecambe because well.. it’s Morecambe.

I do think any of those bottom 4 could make a good and fair argument to stay up and sway my mind, which shows just how tight it will be at the bottom.

Lots of guesswork from here, and the temptation to put the big clubs top and the small clubs bottom is risky....

I think Bristol Rovers will do the best of the promoted teams, they are strengthening, had good momentum towards the end of last season and have a manager who, at least, knows this level well. Wouldn't like to predict how we will do, with an unproven manager, the loss of key parts of last year's team, and thus far, at least, and probably Reece Brown apart, not obviously wildly impressive transfers in.

(Overheard on a bus in Nailsworth on the way to our game against Bradford City in the spring, a conversation between an American FGR fan and a Bradford Bradford City fan. - "The thing about America is that way more people believe in God and things like that than in England". - "Ah that's nothing, some people here even believe that Sheffield Wednesday will get promoted").

Anyway...

1. Wednesday
2. Oxford U
3. Wycombe
4. Ipswich
5. Peterborough
6. Barnsley

21. Cheltenham
22. FGR
23. Exeter
23. Fleetwood

Tough call this year, but I would go for:

1. Wednesday
2. Peterborough
3. Wycombe
4. Ipswich
5. Portsmouth
6. Barnsley

21. Burton
22. Morecambe
23. FGR
24. Fleetwood

Bristol Rovers, Exeter and Port Vale I think will stay up, but all will likely be bottom half.
Shrewsbury will, I think, be this season's over-performers, Oxford my guess for this season's disappointment (although still way too good to be in trouble)

Barnsley, Bolton and MK Dons are my tips to just miss out on play-offs.
Cheltenham and Rovers to just sneak above the line...

For Accrington, Cambridge, Lincoln, Plymouth and Charlton I am predicting dull seasons of mid-table mediocrity - the latter two generally in the top half and the first three generally in the bottom half.

I'd love to be very wrong about Peterborough...

We haven't signed anyone but we've literally kept our starting 11 from last year which is a significant improvement on where we were this time last year. With a fit Stubbsy and now a solid Chieck, to think we will even be in the bottom half is incomprehensible. But you're from Plymouth, so intelligence isn't your forte. We will be minimum top half, at the absolute very minimum. I'd put our chances of play offs around 85% and 14% of automatics with about a 1% chance we finish anywhere in the bottom half.

You weren’t the best team in league 2 last season and you haven’t strengthened. Continuity is a plus but to say you are 99% guaranteed to be top half is a bit much. I expect Bristol Rovers to do best out of the promoted sides.
