1. Barcelona won't want to swap their second best player, even for Coutinho.
2. Suarez won't want to return to Liverpool.
3. Klopp won't want to change Liverpool's playing formation and playing style to accommodate Suarez, even though it would be easier to do so than with a more traditional striker given his quality.

So....er...no.

That's fucking ridiculous. We should have sold him
And if we did you'd have complained no end about it.

You've been incredibly miserable recently.

Fucking hell Liverpool, sell, sell, sell.
You'd think Cout was among the worlds best players for the fee quoted. Sell him and buy Napoli for fucks sake, you'll still have money left over!

I get that Liverpool are struggling to get players in, I think all clubs are but supposedly rejecting 118 million pounds for Coutinho is absurd. Even in this market anything over 80 is having Barcas pants down.

He isnt an elite player and I dont even think he is in the next bracket down. He isn't even Liverpools best player. His stats are no more impressive than Salah who you just got for 30 odd million.

They should take the money even if it sets then back a year because there is no way the market stays this crazy without players on mass deciding to run contracts down and you will never get such a crazy offer for him again.

Coutinho given a full season is approaching world class, his injury scuppered him a bit and he took a while to get over it, but before and after that, you could see he's beginning to reach his peak. I agree it's a ludicrous amount, but we don't need the money and getting rid of one of our key players just as the season is kicking off, especially with the lack of in's, is folly imo. Keep him and be damned with the money and to Barca.

No, I'm resigned to selling him, and as such he's sort of no longer a Liverpool player anymore in my mind - if we keep him his input this season is going to be negligible I reckon. And a good point has been made by various people, Barcelona likely won't be back for him once this window closes, or certainly not for this type of money. Then on top of that you have arguably the most dangerous damage being done here, up and coming top payers won't want to come to Liverpool if we pick up a reputation of refusing to sell to the world's biggest continental clubs once the said players reach their potential.

Just take the hit and sell.

To be fair, Liverpool have a good precedent in Suarez. Refused to sell, he had an amazing season, they got a huge fee for him the next summer. It's fair enough to try digging in your heels again and hope for a similar outcome.

The difference is, of course, that Coutinho is terrible.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Duncan castles is reporting that City are in talks for a £250m move for Messi.

The first two words in that sentence is your key indicator as to its veracity.

So have Barca officially dropped interest in Coutinho since the 7pm deadline today has passed?

More a case of them realising that if we're stupid enough to turn down £115m we're clearly not going to sell. No point in continuing.

No but they may offer a happy meal according to the Express... https://www.express.co.uk/sport/foo...Philippe-Coutinho-Barcelona-Neymar-Gossip/amp

This was a joke made by a member of the Liverpool subreddit, which has been picked up and reported in the Express, Liverpool Echo, AS and several other European sports papers.

Literal fake news.

It seems the Express sports section is just as shite as the rest of the paper.

Good, they can start dismantling Everton instead of us like always. They already got Deulofeu who will once again flop, let them have banal Barkley.

I find it odd that Klopp thinks only VvD can improve that defence. Or the only person 'available' to.
Reminds me of when Wenger was saying they were only looking to sign "top, world class players" as if only the elite could oust their current players.

I'm not sure if the situation is the same with Keita but I've not seen Liverpool linked with any other midfielders since that deal looked dead in the water. It's a strange way to do business.

James Pearce of the Echo reckons that if Liverpool fail to land Van Dijk Klopp won't bother attempting to sign another centre back.

How do the Liverpool contingent on here feel about that? Are your defensive problems fixable without bringing in new personnel?
I'm expecting us not to sign him or anybody tbh before the end of the window (though Coutinho looks set to stay which is a bonus the way things are currently). Pearce is usually reliable and so if he's saying this, then I think that will be the case.

We're always going to be open playing the way we do no matter the personnel. We can defend well when we want to, but I still expect there to be many a game yet this season, where Liverpool will look like a pub team at the back; and so to not try and rectify that with a fresh face, and to not include Sakho either, is negligent imo. We'll see how it goes, but I'm not expecting us to challenge for the league this year; but am hoping for a cup instead, and to somehow squeeze into the top four.

Aye there's a stubbornness that he only wants players who will improve the side to come in. That is fine in principle, but there are plenty of players out there who could do that, and you can only be picky about it, when you are the finished article, which we are way off of.

As much as I rate Van Dijk, I don't see how he'll fix our problems. Southampton conceded a hell of a lot of goals last season via set pieces (38% of their total goals conceded compared to our 26%).

I fully expect us to look better in play with Van Dijk on account he's not Lovren.

VvD missed half of last season and that's when the damaging goals conceded, aerial balls lost, goals conceded from set-pieces stats kicked in due to both Stephens and Yoshida lacking in the height department.

We had one of the best defences in the league before Fonte left and then VvD got injured and the latter is an absolute monster in the air.

He'd walk into the Liverpool side and other than Bill (Who's had his reservations from the start for some reason) it's funny to see the supporters now change their mind on him with nine days left before the deadline after months of #FreeVanDijk.

He's still a c*** mind, but one I wouldn't be against seeing back in our team after Saturday.

Not half as funny as seeing the Southampton fans on here throw their usual hissy fits at the prospect of the club once again being Liverpool's feeding bitch, to the point of wanting to take less money as long as he went to another club. You needn't worry though, it seems your club has finally grown some bollocks. Bravo. ;)

Walking into the Liverpool defence doesn't mean a whole lot to be fair. And who did you have in mind for this change of heart? Gilly was simply questioning if he would solve our defensive issues, in particular our set piece vulnurability. Hardly unreasonable given that it's clearly a system problem rather than any individual. As for myself, whilst I recognise he would offer big improvements, a cursory check will show you I've said from day one that we're offering too much for him, and my view hasn't changed.

If John Stones is worth £50m then Van Dijk is worth £50m.

Where were the fabricated stats when you were linked with a £50m move in June Pags? WHERE?
