They're probably just using United's name to bump up his price, signing another attacker shouldn't really be on our agenda right now if we want to finally give our squad some balance.

Yeah, he is supposed to be in "advanced negotiations" with Manchester City so I wouldn't be surprised if his club/agent are trying to wrangle a bit more cash out of them by making something up about United being interested.

I like this buy-back stuff. It's clever.

Yep, me too. I mean look how clever ManUtd look now that their able to buy back Pogba for only 100m more than they let him go for . :brill:

probably the same reason you just paid £25mil for a midfielder who cost £14mil a year ago, had half a dozen good games last season, and saw his team relegated without a fight. it's like the same reason a pint of milk no longer costs tuppence and that mate.

The inflation argument still rests on value and the buyer's willingness to pay. If an estate agent slaps on a £500k valuation on a property in a run down part of town and no one buys the property. The £500k is only worth anything in an accounts ledger.

Shit analogy really. If buyers are flush with money and need to buy a house, all estate agents can up the prices of houses by 50-100% and those who need somewhere to live (and cant rent/loan) are going to pay more than they're really worth. Sellers market.

Your rationale implies exclusivity. If you want to buy Ronaldo, you have pay whatever the seller wants.
At the tier of player we're discussing, there are cheaper alternatives.
Neither is every football club flushed with cash (despite the new tv deal). Many clubs are up to their neck in near unserviceable debt. The tv money is a much needed relief from those concerns.

Please delete duplicate posts when you do them, I just deleted three of them from you Kopper.

It's either my phone or the site, but I was trying to do just that.

Our local press are accusing Liverpool press of exaggerating what they're getting for Smith, by double, in fact. Our lot put it at £3m.

Probably a difference between an initial fee and a potential addons completed fee, or something like that.

It's the same every year. What's true about our fanbase though, is that we have an admirable ability to make the for us most advantegous figure become truth a few years down the line. Remember Jordan Henderson? That's £16M everywhere nowadays.

Basically, stop trying. Nobody knows and we always win. £6M it is and if you bring it up again we'll make it £7M.

:bg1: There's a propaganda arm of Liverpool media. They were all saying Palace were paying £30m for Benteke when it was later revealed that Palace went nowhere near that, if they would it would have been accepted.

Good thinking mate - you should buy loads of average players that have failed under shit managers now that you've got Klopp to polish turds.

No player is shit. Not even Wayne "Poor Game" Rooney. All players are diamonds in the rough until they take their opportunity to shine.
Harry Kane showed no real promise when loaned out to Norwich or Leicester City. You could've brought him for a million back then. But under Pochettino he has flourished.

I don't agree with the Wijnaldum purchase but if Klopp sees something in him and feels he can bring it out, then I have to respect his right to do so.

While agreement on his personal terms has been reached, neither club seem willing to pay the 20m euros fee Pogba's agent Mino Raiola wants for brokering the deal.

It is the sole sticking point which is preventing Jose Mourinho from completing the last of the four key signings he wishes to make ahead of his debut campaign in Manchester.

I understand it's the most expensive deal in transfer history so it's bound to take time, and I am excited by the prospect of Pogba playing for United, but the longer it goes on the less enthused I am about this deal. Ferguson couldn't stand being in the same room as Raiola apparently.

I'm intrigued by the sudden financial and moral compass United have developed with regard to an agent's fee. It's never stopped them throwing money at agents before now and paying out fairly huge fees for players of...differing abilities before (since Fergie). Is it that this one deal is just too ridiculous a demand for United to stomach? I mean once you go breaking the £90m or £100m barrier depending what you read, if you're really that big on a player then you'd think they'd just go the whole hog and get it done?

I'm not too sure about the finer details, but apparently when Raiola took Pogba to Juventus he negotiated a deal for himself that would see him receive 25% of a future transfer of Pogba, and Juventus want United to pay that to Raiola separately. So it's not just a case of paying the "agents fee".

Anyhoo, we've apparently agreed a fee for Kapustka the 19 year old Polish maestro.
I think that's sealed the title then.

Everton have met the release clause for Idrissa Gueye from Villa. 7.1mill. Could be a really good signing that.

We were supposedly in for him and every game that I saw him play in the euros made me hope that it was bollocks. He was dire.

Yeah I didn't see the fuss with him either. Mind you I was looking more at that new Bayern Munich lad who looks a hell of a player.

Aye. He's off to City apparently. Shame as he looks a great talent.

The Pogba saga has become incredibly tedious. I'm easy either way. If we don't sign him we'll probably end up buying two world class players instead. It's a win-win.

Smith has completed his move to Bournemouth for £3mil. Could be a good signing but I thought Daniels had a good season so he'd be hard to replace unless he's injured?

I actually prefer him to Moreno, but then I hold Moreno in the same category as Traore, Cissokho and Josemi as far as shite full backs go so it's not saying much.

We'll see, but I don't think it's intended as a replacement, at least not in the short term. Our way of playing is hard on our full backs putting them at the heart of our gameplan, so I'd imagine we want rotation and competition. Daniels as the incumbent will have the nod initially.

So Liverpool need a player or two, are they going to raid their default shop of Southampton for Bertrand using Bournemouth's cash :P1:

Bertrand to Liverpool was a worry of mine this summer but thankfully I was wrong and he signed a new contract.

Maybe next year.
