Haha in our defence Stokes, Pearson and Amond breeze into every single side in the division if fully fit.

Not entirely convinced - Amond’s got 14 goals in two seasons in League Two (not terrible but not amazing either) and Pearson has been playing for a Wrexham side that has been.. okay at best. They’d have breezed into every single side in the division in 2016.

Obviously can’t comment too much on others, but I don’t think either would start for Notts and there are better teams than us in this league currently.

I can't speak for Pearson, but it sounds like if he's fit he's still a top defender at this level from what the Wrexham lot are saying. Although funnily enough he did struggle to hold down a starting place for us in 15/16 when we went up!

Amond has looked good every time I've seen him this season though. Poor goal return for him, but he hasn't started nearly as many games as previous seasons at Newport. I don't think Newport have necessarily played to his strengths this season and he's not struck up as good a partnership as he had with Jamille Matt with anyone. With him not being a particularly pacey player though, I'm convinced he'd bang 20+ in in this division if he started 80% of matches. He didn't just get 30 goals last time he was down here, he got 30 goals and was the best player on the pitch by a country mile for probably about two thirds of the season. Worth noting he had a similar return at Morecambe in 14/15 as to what he's had this season. Very clever player who is a cut above at this level. Will get a League Two club if he leaves Newport, I'd imagine.

Cheek is the only to get past 20 this year, and if you take out penalties the most open play goals anyone has got is the lad at Maidenhead with 17. Oh yeah, you did...us alone in our time down here, we had Alan Connell, Liam Hearn and Podge Amond hit 28/29/30ish. Then off the top of my head I can remember Matt Green, Matt Tubbs, Jamie Vardy, Christian Doidge, John Akinde and Andre Gray doing the same. There'll be others I've forgotten too, so you're maybe averaging two strikers a season around 30.

I actually hadn't noticed that this wasn't happening anymore. Maybe you're right then, maybe Amond wouldn't be as prolific as I'm saying but he was so good for us that I'm sticking to my guns. I wonder if it's to do with the quality of players. Those are some good strikers I've listed there. It'll be a long time before an attacker from this division goes as far in the game as Vardy has. Probably also Gray.

Sam never plays and Rodrigues isn’t really a striker, mostly gets nominally put upfront when people do our formation, but he’s basically in a free role, more of an attacking midfielder. Really good player who we’ll make some ££ off in the next year or two.

Wootton is a fundamentally bad finisher (highest xG in the league this season according to our stats lads) but a really good centre forward otherwise capable of playing up on his own. We’re also a team of midgets, so if our striker was less than six foot two we’d be conceding three goals a game from set pieces rather than just one or two.

Maybe the Wrexham lot will be kind enough to give us a breakdown of the evolution of the 5th tier over the last 20 years, as they've been down here for the majority of it?

Will be interesting to see what we do then, in terms of formation. We've never ever managed to play anything with wingbacks successfully and Hurst has generally favoured a 4-4-2 when playing his most effective football with us.

I'll reserve judgement on Dunne if and when I see him play. His interview is pleasing, won't set the world alight but will give his all.
If Dunne is going to try his hardest I don't care what he's like, I'd have rather seen a double relegation with 30 tryers of dubious quality than the absolute crock of shit lazing around a football field we've had to put up with for the last 2 and half years.

There was a supporters meeting with Ron and the new CEO (most important signing of our season by a country mile). Ron said we were meant to announce a new signing Wednesday but he never showed up! Not sure who it is or what's going on with the transfer. Also said we've signed 6 players (not including Dunne) but can't announce them yet.
This is Ron though so I take it with a pinch of salt.

James Dunne is up there as one of the worst midfielders we have ever had. Makes up for his obvious lack of talent by displaying a thuggish streak that saw him see red 3 times in his short career with us.

We saw less of the thuggish side but he was definitely very vocal and critical of others when on the pitch. When we had Dan Sweeney (now at FGR) who was the same it really gave the impression of quite an unpleasant team spirit.

But then it’s professional sport and they could’ve just been demanding the best from their teammates I suppose. Although more often than not Sweeney and Dunne were making the mistakes as well.

Yes, great finisher and although not the tallest or most physical he holds the ball up well. Fully deserves an EFL move after an excellent first season at this level.

He’d be a good signing for you at this level was immense for us when we won this league in 2019 and scored 9 goals that season as well.

King is an interesting one. Going forwards, very good. Defensively can be very rash and poor positionally and awareness. Was at fault for your first goal the other day as an example. Completely switched off and left Mandeville unmarked.

Depends if you can keep him on the pitch. Kings discipline is awful. He's picked up double figures in cards this season.

Very hit and miss. Although I guess he's at this level for a reason. He's brilliant when he wants to be though.
