I don’t get how a guy playing upfront for a relegated team has become a scapegoat.

Didn’t he not play for the first few months too?

The fact is you’re in the national league where he’s proven.

You’ve signed a midfielder in James Dunne who was crap in a team that’s came bottom of this league last season. We picked up after he was furloughed.
A scapegoat, I think not. He was shit like the rest of them.

As said, he is definitely not a scapegoat. 99% of our fans want him to stay due to his previous record in this division, but he was as bad as everyone else last season. Not just a bit crap, biblically shit, he like everyone that has come into contact with the club over the past 3 years has just had the life and soul ripped out of them. He should get out for his own sake!

This is all about Phil Brown though, something happened at the loss at Colchester, which was a truly awful display and the worst under brown's short stint. Akinola and Nathaniel-George appear to be at the heart of it, they've been out in the cold ever since and are only still here because their contracts haven't expired.
I'd give both a go at this level but the relationship with the coaching staff is clearly beyond repair.

Looks as if James Horsfield came on for us as a trialist last night. Thought he was off to Halifax?

Is Kevin Roberts still with you guys?

I thought Horsfield would be a good signing for Halifax tbh.
Yeah Kev is still going strong.

Horsfield's a right back as well isn't he? Strange as we've got a few of those already with Kev Roberts, Morgan and Cowan, but no natural left back although it looks like Morgan can swap to that side easily enough.

Could do with a holding midfielder if Lacey doesn't come back as well.

He is a right back, but can play as a defensive midfielder as well. I think that was his position at Man City. He's had some bad luck with injuries but I quite liked him, decent on the ball. If he gets an established place in the team he could be a really good signing in NLN

He wasn't with us on Tueday night at Guiseley and Wild said we'd binned off several of the trialists after our game at Carlisle so looks like he was one of them.

Guessing that means we will sign the other trialist right back, Javid Swaby-Neavin now.

Decent signing if it does happen, played so many games at league one level last season it’s a very strange move for him as it will only be downhill from now at his age. Must be a loan with you lot paying a percentage of his wages, if not Southend are also ‘going for it’.

If they can both stay fit, and motivated then Akinde and Murphy should be a decent front pair.

I still think Southend are in trouble, personally.

I know you shouldn’t read into pre season results too much the fact they got hammered 5-1 by West Ham under 23’s and also last night beaten by Brentford Under 23’s who got comfortably beaten by Dulwich Hamlet 5-2 last time out, would be concerning for me if I were a SU fan. Did I hear Murphy went of injured last night too, long season ahead would not be surprised to see Brown walk by Xmas, few losses at home early it could become toxic very quickly.

He looks like the wrong manager for this league, signing the wrong players. Its a scenario we've seen all too often and it can result in clubs falling right through to the regional leagues (Stockport, York being the classic examples- Orient and Chesterfield just managed to cling on)

Their main issue is their owner though. Nothing will improve until they can get rid of him.

You want one or two of the likes of Coulson, Ogogo, Murphy, Holmes, Akinde, Dunne etc who’ve done it at this level in the past, but it’s way too many. I can see them getting absolutely overrun by younger, fresher teams.

You’d think Southend are well located and are paying the money judging by the signings to pick at that endless pool of good players that the smaller London clubs at this level always find, but Brown presumably doesn’t have the contacts/knowledge to do it.

Don’t read too much into pre-season but your manager is walking by Christmas

Southend fans were rumoured to be in talks with Jordan Maguire-Drew, which I fully believe as it came from a respected journalist.

It’s either Phil Brown has had a nightmare and decided to bin him off because he’s now turned up on trial at Woking.

Speaking of Woking, they also have Claudio Ofosu on trial from Hartlepool

No-one as saying that when we won L1 with Ron at the helm.

Aldershot (and Boreham Wood, apparently )
Attention Codwallopers, one of our trialists is apparently Ira Jackson Jr.
Is that likely, and more importantly, is he any good?

It’s likely because he’s been told he can leave. Personally, I’m not a huge fan, last season on his limited appearances he showed he can get in goal scoring positions but I’d question his actual footballing ability at this level. Sees himself as a winger but did not impress there at all. Be glad if he does leave as it’s another body out the door.
