I have to say that I am more on the side of the Chesterfield fans with the Mitchell deal, looks a strange one for Notts County to be chasing, certainly never looked that great for us that you thought he would secure that sort of move and when Chesterfield came in with silly money last season (probably only because they were short at the time) we gladly took it. That said, he might be a 'project' for the mid/longer term but I can't see him helping much this season should Wootton be out for any length of time but wish the lad well as he had a fairly thankless time at the Walks through no fault of his own.

I wasn’t talking about a loan move to a team vying for promotion believe me.

Surely if you’ve paid a fee for him your expecting him to challenge Wootton for his number 9 shirt? He isn’t going to do that, he’s very raw
Apparently Chesterfield wanted his full wages paying for a loan move circa 1k

I’m not surprised that we’d have wanted his full wages paying, however I would be extremely surprised if his wage was anything like £1k p/w here

It looks to me like he’s gone a bit overboard in his praise for him, probably because they knew the reaction from their fans to the signing wasn’t going to be the best.

It seems that the majority of their fan base were crying out for an experienced poacher type to feed off their target man

I am genuinely baffled by the number of our fans who wanted to bring in a poacher type to play alongside Wootton and presumably move Rodrigues, probably the league’s most in-form player in the last 10/15 games of last season after we moved him upfront, back into midfield where he flattered to deceive.

Can see an argument that we’d want someone more experienced to challenge Wootton a bit more for his place, but not that one.

Yeah but County have a "model" and look at stats on laptops.

Did he not?

Thought he'd signed. I stand corrected.
I find it very strange that he agreed to mutually terminate his contract if he didn’t have a move lined up!? Most likely scenario is that the Oldham move fell through last min leaving him without a club !?

I don’t think he’s quite good enough for the FL, so I’d say his options are limited to the full time teams at this level because I highly doubt he will want to go back part time.

Whelan was never signing for Oldham. It was just BS from Football League World who presumed he’d be staying up North.

he’s on trial at Eastleigh now

Did you want to keep him then? I’d never heard of him before someone randomly mentioned him on our forum, albeit it seems like it’s an even more random joke

Rowe wanted to move him out because he was behind Mandeville and Clarke in the pecking order, but obviously with Whelan having a contract, if he didn’t want to leave I guess he didn’t have to? But with it being mutual consent that suggests that he’d have had something lined up but obviously not

There is no doubting his talent, but his physical attributes aren’t great. 60 minute man max, not very strong or quick really. I did like him though and if Eastleigh sign him I can see him doing well there

I liked him, but we have about 7 centre mids so couldn't promise him the game time he obviously needs.

Eastleigh doing some business. That kid from Southampton looked a good signing too.

Not really , I think most wanted a big number 9 as cover for Wootton as we've got absolutely nobody to replace him if he's injured.
He went 13 without scoring last season, at one point we got 2 pts from 18 during that run. If he'd kept up his stats before and after that run we'd just about have won the league.
Fine margins.

Won't be a striker, but we do need an experienced midfielder - any suggestions?
As in a CM or a winger? Nothing on the CM front yet but have heard from a very reliable source that you're trying to tempt 36 year old Obafemi Martins away from Wuhan Zall FC.

Have to agree. I thought we were signing someone to put Wootton under genuine pressure, but instead we’ve got another young lad who’ll be picking splinters out of his arse.

Still, potential.

Apparently Nathan Cameron is signed according to someone in the know on our forum. What's he like? He looks like a bit of a unit from some of the friendlies.
Was very good for us, and had come with positive reports from previous clubs too. Joined us after a long term knee injury though and you can tell he's a bit of a non league Ledley King - doubt his knees can get through a week's training and 2 games a week. Possibly help him dropping down to part time (I presume you are?) but on the flip side he'll probably add some more weight due to the less training. Keep him fit and he's much better than NLN.

It's being claimed Billy Clarke is on trial with us tonight. We don't really need another number 10 though.

Would be a good signing IMO. Not very fast (dunno if he ever was) but a clever player with a bit of quality.
