Balanta might improve with a full pre-season under his belt and if he's starting games, but it'd be a hell of a gamble. Fitness was pretty questionable and despite one or two moments of quality he disappointed me ability-wise too. Grateful for his penalty at Wembley, but glad he's not remaining here next year.

Anyway, as the poster above says I don't think it's happening.

Doig says we are interested in Ryan Bird but his wage demands are too high so its unlikely to happen but we will carry on our interest until he signs for someone else or his demands drop.

He also said we have no interest in Kingsley James and even if we did the fact a fee would be involved, we would probably drop the interest quickly.

Expecting both of them to sign within a day or two then.

As expected, Halifax in for Kingsley James according to Burr, he's labelled their fee offer as 'derisory' though.

Don't believe Louis Moult, it's a done deal.
Like Jay Harris, he can't resist the lure of your awesome kit for next season.

Shocking kit isnt it!!! But he might wanna play at a ground thats not falling to bits next season

No offence to Alfreton, but he's better than Conference North.

Seems like it's still just speculation but Monkhouse does tick all the right boxes. I would be happy with him.

Is Monkhouse a winger or a striker? For the few times I've seen him play, he appeared to be used as a striker, but everywhere official seems to be saying winger.

I'm under the impression he's a winger but yeah he has seemed to play upfront a lot of the time. Kind of like Arnold for us I guess, winger who also likes the odd stint playing as a striker. It would be a good signing for us as we're after both so the versatility is helpful.

He played mainly outside but would not class him as either.Great ball player and can really hit a pass. Also scores a few as well. Probably the only player that has left us I would have kept and although he wanted to stay with us I believe the terms he was offered were not to his liking.
A very good signing for Grimsby if it happens.

Yeah, he looks like he'd be a good signing for Grimsby. It's just another signing that re-affirms my confidence that Grimsby will win the league. The only other team's squad that looks close at the minute is Tranmere but I don't think they'll win it with it being their first season down here.

As George says, Monky will be a great signing for Grimsby.

He is a hugely underrated player and I wouldn't mind betting most Mariners will not view him as a glamorous signing as he isn't lightning quick or particularly skilful like all wingers simply have to be these days. What Monkhouse brings to the team instead though is much better than what your average Conference winger provides.

He is very good on the ball and holds it up incredibly well, which allows his full back to overlap. So, if you have an attack-minded left/right back he will love playing behind Monky. He will provide plenty of assists and if he doesn't directly create a goal he will almost certainly be involved in the build-up (the number of times he set up Lee Brown to provide a cross that led to a Gas goal last season was unbelievable).

Unlike any other winger in this division, Monkhouse will also be a regular name on the scoresheet. He bagged 8 for us I think, which is a very respectable total.

He is loved and appreciated by Gasheads for his contribution last season and I sincerely hope he does well with you guys next season. Best of luck to him and you.

Sounds like someone we need. We've got two tricky wingers already so a change of pace will be good to have. I could see Hurst even putting him up front next to Bogle.

Remains to be seen if the signing tomorrow is actually Monkhouse, although if it's not I'd like to think we could still be in for him.

EDIT: Looks like BBC Humbo has done some digging and a source close to Monkhouse says it's correct that he will be signing for us tomorrow.

According to local reporter, Jim Greens Twitter, we are close to a new left back and midfielder

#ChesterFC understood to be closing in on a new midfielder along with a left-back. Both would be significant additions to the squad.

Blues expect to announce left-back signing this afternoon. Follow @ChesterFC_Chron for updates. Don't think he'll cost £29m like Firmino!

Posters on RP think you're signing Johnny Hunt.

Well Hunt is a left back and a midfielder (of sorts) -two signing for the price of one!

I don't mind hunt but he is entirely unremarkable.
