Been linked with Connor Hughes and Kayode Odejayi.
Hughes is young winger who was very impressive when we played Hyde last season, apparently we have nicked him away from Halifax at the last minute.I thought our midfield was pretty sorted already and looking very strong but adding Hughes would be the icing on the cake. Surprised we are after Odejayi as we have already signed a big striker in Colley, hopefully we will get a poacher type in to alongside one of those two.

Ashley Grimes - ex Bury/Rochdale/Walsall striker due to sign for Barrow tonight according to BBC radio Cumbria twitter....
looks like being a 2 year deal with the club having the option of adding a 3rd year

Should be a good signing, that.

One of the best finishers we've had at Lincoln in recent years (had him on loan from Millwall about 5 years ago). Will need a good target man up there with him, though, because he doesn't offer anything in build up play and not someone who'll run around chasing things down, get stuck in or hold the ball up.

Downsides to him were lack of work rate and has a really short fuse. He'll get too wound up by defenders down here IMO (unless he's calmed down a bit now). Keep chipping away at him and he'll react.

Apparently we have John Marsden on trial. Anything from Southport/Lincoln fans on him? Not done a great deal anywhere that I can see.

Did fuck all here by all accounts, not that he was given too much of an opportunity. Southport fans seem(ed) to rate him.

Andy Cook will be the target man, so no problem there
Ah yeah, forgot you had him.

Will be interesting to see how many he scores because on the back of his half a season with us in L2 and move to L1, I never thought he'd ply his trade down here.

Marsden was a strange one, in the glimpses on the pitch he looked ok, but that was it, we only saw glimpses. I have no idea why he was brought in just to sit in the bench.

Apparently our ex keeper Ian Ormson was playing for Chester last night. Assuming he's back up, which I'm sure he will be that would be a good signing for them IMO. We threw him into the first team far too early, and mistakes started creeping in and his confidence was shot, he's a good shot stopper, will come for crosses when his confidence is up. He's tiny for a keeper but it wasn't long ago league clubs were looking at him and he was training with Spurs, some county fans will say he's absolutely awful, but he's not

Depends if Grimes can be arsed while picking up his paycheck to be honest. Should be good for 15+ goals if so.

Grimes holds the honour of being if that's right things to say of being the only Imps loanee to win the fans player of the season.
Only saw Marsden play for 20 minutes! He made 2 starts and came on 4 times as a sub before returning to Southport all very odd him coming and letting Karl Ledsham go just before who hardly played either.

Ryan Bowman is rumoured to be off. Wouldn't be a huge surprise as we have five strikers on the books (excluding Louis Briscoe, who can play upfront if required), which is a lot considering our financial predicament. Ryan didn't feature at all last night in the first friendly the first team were fully involved in. Linked with Gateshead, which wouldn't be a surprise given his past locations. Unsure whether it's loan or permanent, but if it's the latter then I hope we're getting a fee for the lad.

If this does come off then I have mixed feelings. On one hand, he scored 17 last season, in all competitions. Good return considering we were piss poor for several months. On the other hand, that total should have been closer to 25/30 with the number of opportunities he fluffed. It got to a stage where it was not a surprise to see him round the keeper only to somehow not score. I am not his biggest fan, and I don't think his work ethic will fit with what Cox requires.

Certainly going to be an interesting few more weeks yet I imagine.

Interesting on Bowman. Played for us until the end of the season in our Titanic year. Was young at that time only 19'ish I think, he certainly looked like he had the attributes to do well in L2/Conf. He had lots of pace, strong for his size, fairly tall (with a good jump in him), and seemed to work hard. Kind of have a soft spot for him, as i do for any of the players who stuck around for Darlo that season.

As you say Previous clubs (Carlisle, Darlo, York) wouldn't be a surprise to see him go to a Gateshead due to location. With 17 goals last season there's enough to interest other clubs and he's still young enough to learn and progress further.

Wouldnt suprise me to see him up here since we seem to be building a much more northern born squad. Would be very happy with Shaw and Bowman as our main 2 strikers

I'm assuming Gateshead fans are aware that Rene Howe played for Notts County in their friendly last night?

Yeah there was a piece in the local paper saying that he got offered a contract down there. Not too disappointed, he looked alright but reminded me a lot of Michael Rankine.

Bowman was mentioned at our friendly on Tuesday night, so if there's now noise from your end too then maybe something's happening.

Politicians yes, but football club directors are not politicians.
FCD's fall into 3 brackets.
1) Genuine football men who are putting money into a club - These are very honest men & will tell you the truth.
2) Egotistical people - These are show offs and will exaggerate their own importance & tell you lots of untruths.
3) Buisinessmen who couldn't give a toss about the football club - they are in it for the money they will make - Never ever trust these people.

Thankfully, at this level, at least 80% of football club Owners/Directors, fall into the first bracket.

Your idiot's guide to football directors is as clumsy as it is nonsensical. Your simplification assumes the three types are mutually exclusive. Clearly absurd. Which then renders your entire argument like something Lewis Carroll would have written.
Secondly, there is zero evidence that there is any correlation whatsoever between the first half of each of your categories and the second half anyway.
Any businessman is driven by the desire to make money so therefore needs his investments to be sustainable. The logic here is that only a moderately successful businessman will be able to buy into a club in the first place. He might be a liar, he might not be a liar.... who knows? There is no obvious correlation between "businessman making an investment" and "liar". Probably all those who are putting money into a club are successful businessmen. Or businesswomen.

As is often the case, you talk pure bollocks (it's a technical term, Google it) dressed up as something profound. In fact, you are proving again that the human gene pool has a shallow end.

We have taken Notts County left back Jordan Cranston on trial. I think he was on loan at Lincoln backend of last season, what's he like?

Hurst was interviewed last night and says he would like one more striker but is no close to finding one and there isn't much around. Said he would like permanent but will go loan if needed, though loan is not likely to happen until clubs have finished there transfer business and know who will be first team and who won't. Will only get a striker in if he will be pushing to start not going to get someone in just as an extra body and isn't worried as both Monkhouse and Arnold can play up top if needed.

Says he will only get another signing in another position in if something comes up that will improve what we have.

Says he did speak to Ryan Bird but never offered him anything and was always expecting him as he was to get a league club down South. Bird also spoke to both Tait and Arnold about Grimsby.

Awful player, how the hell he was at a league one side was baffling to say the least, no wonder they got relegated if that was the standard Notts counteh players they had.
