3 new trialists at Barrow today;- George Bowerman (ex acc stanley), Lucas Dawson (ex Nuneaton) and an un-named (as yet) American Central Defender with an Irish accent?
Looks like Parslow won't be signing as he's apparently on trial at Cheltenham now...
Not Steve Williams then?

Interesting. Our squad numbers were announced this week and there wasn't anyone with number nine, which was a bit odd considering two out of our three summer signings have been forwards. On our forum there was speculation that we might have one more signing to make, possibly a right sided midfielder, which might mean signing someone like him. It would be a bit of a turn-around, if he did join us, as he apparently turned down a move to Rovers about a year ago.

If he joins you then you will have a very good, but very frustrating player. Attacking he is lethal, defending he is non existent. He will not close down, he will not tackle and he wont challenge for headers. He will leave opposition defenses for dead and serve up goals on a plate. If he does sign for you I will be glad we arent in the same league because he will have a point to prove and has the ability to tear a team apart when in the right mood. Sadly that mood is more often like a petulant child.

I think KMB thought he'd be out of contract this summer and moving up the leagues. When we took up the option it threw a spanner in those particular works.

Not sure what kind of fee we would get for him.

Thanks for the info, interesting stuff.

Both Pennock and previously Hockaday seem to have a penchant for signing difficult characters with a point to prove, thinking their "man-management skills " will sort them out. Unfortunately it rarely worked out with any of them.

We need more pace and trickery in the side, and it sounds like Marsh-Brown might be able to provide that. Concerned about his attitude though, and can't imagine he'll come cheap.

Is Toby Ajala still at Torquay? He was the best winger I saw in the conference last season.

We've offered him the chance to come back for pre-season, but he is currently on trial in Bristol.

Trialists we had on show today:

Luke Simpson (Accrington)
Dale Tonge (Torquay)
Sam Vince (Boston)
Michael Liddle (Accrington)
Jake Heath (Walsall)

Nobody really stood out, I suspect we might sign up Tonge as a backup utility player and one of the two keepers as backup to Worsnop. I'd go for Simpson over Vince based on what I witnessed today.

Looks like Parslow played today, will find out how he got on.

According to Gary Johnson he's on a two week trial and is someone we're interested in, however, unless someone goes out we're probably not going to be able to bring him in.

Speaking to a York supporting mate of mine, he sounds like he'd be a decent signing so if he does impress enough, then I expect the Board to back Johnson a little bit.

Is it possible to be a utility player if you can only play in one position (and don't do that very well either!)?

We had him on loan last season, if you want to be challenging promotion he's not great unless you want someone on the bench to cover a lot of positions. He's one of those players than can play all across the back 4 and even in midfield if needed but he's not great in any of them, but decent enough to cover for 20 mins when brought on as a sub. Just don't sign him to be first choice anywhere!

He played right back in the first half yesterday and then in the middle of midfield in the second half, Burr seems to think that's the sort of job he could do. If we do offer him a deal it won't be much as we haven't got much left to use in the budget.

Surely he'll get a deal. Good striker at this level, we'd be idiots not to give him a year.

Shaun is very useful at this level. Could easily achieve 15 goals plus with the right service. He was overshadowed at times with us by Akinde but he stepped up well when Akinde became injured

I love Shaun Harrad. We had him on loan for the 12/13 season, and he as easily our best forward but Yates was rubbish with rotating strikers.

Last season, he came in when we were on a downward spiral and can take none of the blame for our relegation, apart from the sitter he missed which would have earned us a draw at home to Exeter.

I'd be content with Harrad as back-up to Hearn. Better than going from Hearn to the youngsters.

Harrad would add some extra quality to the squad in terms of competition and options. Has good experience and knows where the goal is. If he signed, Hearn, Rhead, Muldoon and Harrad with Simmons and Connor as the younger ones giving support wouldn't be a bad strikeforce.

Rhead's fitness will be the other problem, so Harrad will be cover for both I would imagine.
7 in 13 for Alfreton at this level in 13/14.
