To be fair to Eastleigh Fan I think Ross Lafayette is a very solid player at Conference Level

Christ, some of these tinpotters aren't fucking half in awe of themselves. It's like Donnatella Versace looking at herself in the mirror and having a fiddle.

I'm sure some of these fans would lead more fulfilling lives if they just concentrated on their once-in-a-lifetime shot at FL status rather than poking "BELT" fans in the eye.

Well he's got plenty of history with tinpot nothing teams, having played for both Stevenage and Crawley in his time.

He was pretty terrible last year and we now want rid, I'm sure he will want to avoid dropping back down to the Conference if he can but I'm not sure how many options he will have ultimately. Throw enough cash at him and he might change his mind, although he is probably on about £3k per week here I reckon.

Yip close to 3k at Luton, but won't get that at Eastleigh, nor anywhere else in L2 for that matter.
2 clubs have paid over 100k for him over the last 3-4 seasons, so he must have something.
You never know...he might just like village life. He could join our bowls club too, as part of the deal.
Don't be surprised if The Vision tips it in our favour...

He played a grand total of 322 minutes for us last season, scoring 0 goals. Even Ricky Miller was more of a first team player.

If thats a massive signing for a club with a 'vision' then we must have a bigger vision since we have signed Charlie Walker and Jim Stevenson from you this summer!

Couple of rumours, Tony Diagne off on loan to Macclesfield from us for 6 months until January.

Also Callum Howe, ex Scunthorpe defender is one of our five trialists.

Callum spent last season with us and is a good solid defender. Capable of the occasional error but does command the box well. He can also pop up with a few important goals too. Would be a good signing for Lincoln. Was one of our better defenders. Albeit that wasnt difficult at times!

Yeah he absolutely does. Didn't have a great season for us unfortunately but he's immensely talented. On his day he would be without question the outstanding midfield player in the Conference if he were to drop down, no question about that. Legs have gone a bit compared to his first spell with us, but his technique, vision (no pun intended) and range of passing are outstanding.

I liked both players more than Lafayette. I think they'll be solid players at this level.

Poor buggers!

Haha, I actually think he's quite a good player if managed well. To be fair though, I don't think I see eye to eye with the Lincoln fans or management who released/don't rate Marshall, Brown, Bencherif or Diagne, all comfortably top 10 conf players if used correctly IMO!! I was also hoping we would sign Jordan Burrows who looked a decent player for me.

We haven't released any of those - Marshall was only on loan, Brown signed a new deal, Bencherif rejected our contract but Diagne is obviously transfer/loan listed.

We were comparing Diagne to Newton at LB, which is no comparison at all to be fair. He also played CB alongside Nat Brown, which is two unsettling influences in central defence!

I'm not even gonna try and spin any positives on the Diagne rumour.

You not a fan then Boss!? As a player I just don't see Diagne as giving anywhere near enough value for money in a wage, be it at CB or LB. He did score a couple of decent goals early on in the first loan, but defensively, no, he is a liability.

It is good that you now seem capable of taking the piss and having a laugh at yourself, after all, the rest of us have been doing it for months...... ;) :2thumb:

When Simmons first brought him to Macc he looked like he had something about him, though played this strange holding left midfield role. Technically he seemed sound and he basically just played as cover for carl tremarco to bomb on past him and the he could cover at left back. We did something similar in the other side with sam wedgebury and Elliott Hewitt, and it worked pretty well for a while. The. He was moved back into defence and just never really looked solid. Not awful by any means but just didn't look natural at all and like you say alongside Nat brown that's just a recipe for disaster! He did score a few decent goals though including an absolute beauty of a 35 yard free kick away at Swindon to knock them out the FA Cup.

Maybe I'd set my hopes a little higher than the likes of Diane after last season but in all honesty its probably the level of player we can realistically afford and attract.

Marcus Carver training with us with a view to a loan deal.

We were apparently going to be paying a fee for him, but looks like interest has cooled. Was good in his first spell, barely featured last season.
Wouldn't have wanted him this year, but could be really good for Conf North

read an interview with him where he sai he mainly played out of position for you out on the wing. I f we got him he would be playing upfront I should imagine.

I'd agree with this until the last bit. Diagne is by no means an excellent player at this level, but is reasonable. Unlike previous seasons, we have actually kept the core of our team, and this is a team that came 1 point off the play off's. We don't need many great signings, just a number of solid one's and some who can do a job (versatile players like Diagne). IMO, we've already made some good signings in Sampson, Haynes-Brown and potentially Dennis but crucially we retained Pilkington, Turnbull, Holroyd, Halls, Lewis etc who were so influential last season, only losing two key players in Taylor and Barrow. We began the season with 12 or 13 players and a couple of youth players last season, Askey has said today that he wants a squad of 20 so we can afford to have 5 or 6 who are average at this level but can do a job as opposed to last season where every single player we signed had to be good because they would effectively have to be in the starting eleven!

EDIT - would be nice if we could have one 'wow' signing though!

One of our ex players Liam Nolan has been linked with Macclesfield.

Naturally he's a CB but Davis constantly played him as a midfielder and I must say he was bloody awful. Some people may think my criticism is harsh but not once did he ever have a good game for us. He just seemed utterly deprived of confidence, he couldn't take responsibility, never successfully passed a ball forward and never showed the desire to take the game by the scruff of the neck like James Jones has done for us. His last appearance for us vs Walsall was the straw that broke the camel's back and ended his Crewe career I feel, 1-1 in a game we needed to win, 20 yards out with a clear sight of goal with no one marking him and he passes the ball sideways to the Walsall LB. 99.9% of midfielders would've had a crack at that!

However due to his height I reckon he'd be an alright signing for Macc two levels below as long as you play him at the back which we never did, playing him in midfield would see him sink like a stone to the likes of Congleton Town, he just can't play in that position.
