And a rumour from a Halifax fan on our forum saying Danny McGuire is struglling with the commute from the North East to Halifax, so may move permanently with a mate nearer to Macc and joining us instead. That doesn't make a great deal of sense to me though.

The person sayinh Macc is basically completely wrong. There are rumours he has backed out and wants to go to Gateshead. But I get the feeling it's all just people trouble making.

As we don't have the money I'd assume that if there is any truth to this the undisclosed fee would be £0 (with a sell on fee).

I also disregarded the McGuire rumour as last time I checked Macclesfield isn't in the north-east. Maybe someone assumed there was a Mackem-Macc connection...

He was good for us. Had his quiet games/periods of games, but you can't knock his record. Was capable of stepping up and scoring at important times too, like in the video below and against Barnet. Would have been a great a signing for anyone in this division. Whether or not he is good enough for League Two remains to be seen, but perhaps he'll take confidence from a successful period at the top end of this division and make the step up better than he did with Mansfield.

I didn't see/hear of Palmer putting a bad display in at all during his loan spell last season - maybe a quiet game, but nothing near as bad as the Mansfield fans are saying they've seen. And the one time I've seen him in person he was extremely good.

Whether or not he'd be good enough for a team looking to get back into L1 though... Hmm.

Second only to Tim Deasy as our (in my Cambridge guise) favourite opposition keeper - who can sometimes look competent but always delivered a few howlers.

Could be excellent at this level if he's managed correctly. One of the best strikers I've seen play the lone forward role in the season we should have reached League One.

Attitude seems to have gone tits up since leaving Plainmoor though (how familiar!)
