John McAtee is not good enough for a promotion chasing NL side.
I’ve no idea if he is or not as I’d never heard of him before today but one thing Hurst is great at is getting a tune out of limited players and getting them to run through brick walls for him.

It sounds more like (going off the Scunny forum) he's got the ability but is a bit lazy. Hence the Nolan reference.

That's what Wrexham and Lincoln said when we signed Jon Nolan to be fair...

Not us, or at least noone who had been paying attention. Lincoln fans said he was no good when we signed him. He was starting to look decent for us when he left and Lincoln released him, he hadn't been fit the while time he was with us, so it was no surprise he was good for you.

Just been back and looked and you're correct, so apologies for mis-besmirchification of the good name of Wrexham. The Lincoln lot hated him though, you're right about that.
Did Nolan kill someone in Lincoln?

"There's two things we do in Lincolnshire...Make sausages and hold grudges."

Being linked with Abu Ogogo

Decent enough with experience but can he stay fit, played very minimal games last few seasons and looked slow for us last season but will always give you a 100%. Won’t be cheap, Southend going for it.

An old team by the looks of it Sun Tan Phil, I just wonder if it will have the real hunger and desire to get out of this league, these types of players have nothing to prove anymore more picking up a wage is the priority.

It kind of worked for us last season with a team of largely experienced EFL professionals that ended up making the play-off final.

Our situation was different though having only been taken over with about five players under contract a week before the first game, so we didn’t have much choice. Ideally you’d want a bit more of a balance with more time to work it out.

Haha, what we saying Town fans? Pretty sure Bottega Don said his legs have gone and I'm not sure he's a Hursty player but could rip this division up if he's remotely arsed.
Must be a different Kevin Van Veen to the one I remember!

The being arsed bit is probably the most important factor to be honest.
He was absolutely hopeless when Scunny first signed him. I remember a fair bit of noise and excitement when they got him in and he scored like 1 or 2 goals all season and looked utterly useless. To be fair he seemed to have upped his scoring later on, and I didn't see much of him whilst we were busy plummeting through the pyramid so I might be being a bit unfair.

In the smash and grab Scunny win at Blundell Park when he got the winner he did absolutely nothing all game and looked pretty lethargic and unfit too, then the one chance he got he ran through and took it brilliantly.

He was decent for Cobblers too, to be fair. On his day one of the best players in L2, but it's a classic case of his day not coming enough...and I think I'm talking myself out of wanting him here as I type this, so thanks for helping out there mate.

Smash and grab implies that we bossed it, which is pushing it a bit! That was the one moment of quality in a dreadful game.

Seriously?

I remember us hammering them for the whole game and then them scoring their only chance.

Maybe the other Town fans can clarify, but I remember it being an absolutely pish match.

Are you maybe thinking about this seasons game which I would agree was complete garbage?

The Van Veen game I have it in my head that we missed chance after chance before they scored, and then missed another sitter at the end with Akheem Rose putting it wide in injury time from around the penalty spot.

Hmmmmm don't remember Rose doing that. Max Wright hit the post in all fairness, I think Pollock or Waterfall blazed one over too? I remember thinking we shaded it but it was a poor game. I was battered to be fair, I was in the sponsors seats and was getting free drinks in McMenemy's before kickoff haha.

It was his attitude here rather than his ability, though. There was never too much doubt about the latter. The Stockport lot warned us about him on that front, but us two caught him in his late teens./early twenties and here was his first move away from home. He came across as a right mardy bastard who seemed to think NL footy was beneath him but wasn't willing to do the hard yards to get into the EFL. The penny finally dropped a few years later, mind.

Still trying to iron his attitude a bit - Lambert sent him to train with the Ipswich kids last season!

If we had kept him for that final season, he'd have thrived under Cowley the following one IMO.

 Doesn't really tell you whether the match was shit or not though does it? Although actually no mention of this Akheem Rose shot and it says there weren't many chances so I'm chalking that up as a poorly contested 1-0 win for me over GTFCfish!
Here you go, this one shows a bit more how dominant we were, says about the Akheem Rose chance too although it says it was edge of the box but it was roughly on the penalty spot as I was in the Ponny and saw it clear as day.

Few rumours round twitter backing up Spire1866 info on our interest in Boldewijn and Jeff King. Also being heavily linked with Ryan Boot who’s just left Solihull, so that would spell the end of James Montgomery I’d imagine who’s deal expires this summer

Montgomery seems like a steady keeper to me, I like him, I'd sooner keep him as backup than Smith if we do sign Boot (who I really like btw, be a great signing that) but our hands might be forced by contract situations, like doesn't Smith have an extra year?

Smith has the contract though doesn’t he. I personally prefer Smith, I genuinely don’t know what he did wrong for Montgomery to get the shirt over him, but I do agree Monty is a decent solid keeper at this level.

Just seen these rumours seems to have come from a twitter page with barely any followers. Is there really anything behind it? Nothing our end on Jeff King.

Bad injury, done his ACL last year so looking likely he’s going to be released this summer. He was okay when he played but tbf never really held down the number 1 shirt

I’ve no idea if any truth in it, guess we’ll soon find out.
