Paul Cox was at NFU vs Boston yesterday, probably looking at Dayle Southwell. Can't think of anyone else he'd be looking at.

I heard that the other day then noticed he was on the bench for their play off final, so he can't be that good. Unless he was injured.

Always sceptical about players who are dubbed as 'centre back or striker'. They're always average or crap at both but we will see. It's not a bad signing if he is going to be a utility player rather than our main choice CB.

McCarthy is keen to keep the majority of their squad so I'd be surprised if they went for that many players and all from us. Jackson is believed to be going to a FL club so again, would rule them out on that one.

Only one out of them I could see us being interested in is Vidal, the rest are no better than what we've already got other than Jackson who is surely going to a FL club.

Ross Hannah being linked with Lincoln again although we have now offered him a new deal, don't think it will be long till we know where he'll be at next season. Henneghan also been offered a new deal.

James Gray is an excellent striker who is in danger of ruining his career. Started the season so well, deadly in the box, but then of course he had a night out and was on his way to training and was stopped by the police for drink driving. Now he's banned from driving for like 20 months I think it was. He let himself and the team down this season..

Really? Can't say I know much about him but 2 goals since mid September is a poor return.

Yeah exactly, it's hard to believe I know but he started really well, I thought he was going to be the man to replace Louis Moult's goals, but then he hit a dry spell but still continued to contribute to the team, workrate was outstanding. But then he decided to be stupid. He also suffered a broken hand or wrist and a bizarre deadly spider bite which kept him out for a few games. He looked a shadow of the player he was near the end of the season, disappointing, for him too.

You're overrating him a fair bit there. Granted he started the season working hard but he just wasn't clinical enough when chances came, he needed 5 to score 1. He's got talent and is still only 23 so if he concentrated purely on football he'd be a good Conference striker capable of 15 goals a season. He just wasn't a patch on Moult, who would have scored 30 goals this season I'm convinced of it.

I liked Gray. He'd be a good signing for most conference national teams, providing that his season for us was just a run of bad luck and his tribulations aren't a common occurrence for him.

A full season with no distractions and he's definitely capable of 15-20 goals.

Gray was more Marc Williams than Louis Moult.

As far as I'm aware he was a striker but then Gannon came along and turned him into a defender, which where he has pretty much played ever since.

I reckon he will be back up for a Smalley/Meppen-Walter partnership.

BBC Radio Cumbria reporting this morning that Cox hoping to sign a "proven National League goal-scorer" and a "promising young player" in the next few days.... we've been linked with Hannah on Deva Chat - but could be anyone?

I hope the promising player is not Kayden Jackson.

National League scorer could be from North or South as well i.e. Dayle Southwell. Cox was watching him at the weekend.

EDIT - Ben Tomlinson probably.

Maybe Cox has unearthed some sort of mythological giant from the mud flats off the coast of Barrow. That would suit his style of 'football'.

That or Exodus Geohagen

"The Cowleys might not be the only ones swapping the Avanti Stadium for Sincil Bank with defender Sam Habergham and midfielder Alex Woodyard rumoured to be following the management team."

Mythalogical giant sounds like Tom Denton the leading scorer of North Ferriby who is 6'5" and was playing in the game Cox watched on Saturday against Boston... although as they still have a game to play I doubt Cox would have spoken to him or Ferriby....

Not far off - Cox has talked about Barrow-born Jack Ryan, though didn't seem overly committed to pursuing him. A big lad, and was decent at Stockport (I think it was) in the Conference North.

For me, Tomlinson is nailed on, Sutton likely, Wilmer-Anderton likely, Southwell possible, and I also think Cook will stay.

Barrow could well be a force for the playoffs next year. I have to say, im not convinced we can compete, but players like Sutton, Tomlinson , Bowman etc are the type of players that we will need to escape from the division.

Some have mused on our forum that we may be in for Anthony Barry. Not sure what level he is at currently and after a serious injury but he used to be the business.

God Anthony Barry, one of the most hot and cold midfielders I've seen here, was mostly terrible but did show some signs of good play. Very much a luxury player...

Tom Denton seriously? He is one of the most immobile strikers I have ever seen, but he managed to completely bully Manny Smith in the FA Trophy Final, he didn't know how to deal with him. That was Ferriby's tactic, lump it toward him and it worked a treat.

Ryan started off looking decent in his first spell but when he returned he was shocking, been pretty awful at Southport by all accounts as well, I would hope you stay well clear.
