There is more to a target man than winning headers. Holding the ball up is also a big part. Now considering Garner falls flat on his face at the slightest touch then I think that's an area of his game that he could improve.

Nothing wrong with Garner's hold-up play, rarely loses possession.

Put hands on him and he will drop, winning a free-kick more often than not.

That can be added to the Championship pre-season bets then ;).

Just removed about 30 posts, keep on topic please > Transfer Rumours.

Why did you delete posts between me and SERNWA about Matt Smith's potential transfer to Rotherham?

Lloyd Dyer to Wolves?

Just don't tell the bloke he'll start...then not play him.

Won't react too well..

Where did you see that? I'd rather us not sign a 32 year old winger with an attitude problem though to be honest. Makes selling Michael Jacobs look even more strange.

They included references to arguements as I was scanning through them, sorry if I was a little trigger fast bud.

Clement has said he's happy with the squad, but with a bit of luck we'll see one more come in.

there's talk it could possibly be us breaking our transfer record again.

Your manager is happy with your squad, but there's talk of one last signing. A signing that could break your transfer record? Fuck off, you're just showing off now.

Some of us are rooting around in the clearance basket 'ere. Show a bit of consideration.

I've been told by a fairly reliable source that we're very much interested in Jamie Murphy of Sheffield United.

Also, the Joey Barton rumours are bullshit. Someone spouted on OTIB that they 'seen him in Town' and people started speculating.

It's utter bollocks.

Do you think Murphy would fit in to our 352? He's a good player, and a tidy finisher, but I don't see him playing down the middle. Could be wrong....useful addition if he comes. Is the Billy Sharp deal their replacement.

I also think Ben Reeves is a real tidy player in the middle of the park.

The other midfield player who really impressed me last year was Jamie Allen from Rochdale, only 20 too.

Left sided player, could possibly replace Cunningham?

I must note that I was told it has not gone any further than the enquiry process, so I'm not saying he's nailed on happening.

Of course they're bullshit! Like he fits into our recruitment ethos.
It's a wind up!

Not sure if it was mentioned on here yet, but Levi Ives looks to have signed from Torquay, he posted a picture of himself at Ashton Gate on his Instagram today and supposedly his agent has posted on Twitter saying the deal will be announced tomorrow.

If he has signed then as a 17 year old I'd expect him to be in the u21 team, but seeing as he played a fair bit last season, albeit in the conference, he may be seen as an understudy to Bryan

That's some step up although he's supposed to be very promising. I would imagine he would go under Wade's wing for a year before he's exposed to this standard.

It may be a wind up, however I feel our 'recruitment policy' goes out the window of sorts if Cotterill truely believes they're worth it. Wilbs didn't fit into our policy. On Barton you could easily say he fits the bill of an experienced head ie Wade Elliott and especially as a replacement in centre mid. It's a 'free' transfer so arguably the lack of a fee could be used in sign on fee/increased wages to tempt him and also knows Cotterill from before so past history gives an educated reasoning Cotts could give as to why he wanted to sign him and wouldn't be a punt on a player.

I don't believe we will sign him, but for people to say he doesn't fit our policy, or that there's absolutely no chance etc seem a bit short sighted on why we could sign him. I'd rather see us go for an established younger championship player or premier league loanee (ie Grimes) to fill the hole Wade has left. Despite his age Korey Smith is a very mature and calm head in our midfield already.

I don't expect us to sign another left back this season (may get on on loan if Bryan gets injured) but I expect Williams to move out to LWB should Bryan get injured/sent off mid match and Ives to play at most on carefully selected games like cup games etc for exposure to higher standards, but his regular football will come in the U21's.

Certainly is a fair old jump, but at the same time conference football is almost definitely a higher standard than the u21 league. Think he might well be in for the u21s but sit on the bench for the first team until another player comes in as defensive cover. That or a loan out to a league 1 or 2 side for a season.

I don't think we will see many U21's loaned out this year, just a hunch. Something City now appear to be big on atm is being a close knit bunch, you don't get that when out on loan, so unless Cotterill is serious about a player being consistently around the 1st XI I think we will keep them around, any player can then train with the 1st team as well to give more exposure.

You have to be joking? He was on £65K a week at QPR and has supposedly turned down a renewal deal at £40K at QPR. It's a joke, it has to be or Lansdown's recruitment plan has proven to be an utter waste of time.
Absolutely no chance, it's a shit weather Sunday wind up!

That's true but Burns and Reid were both on loan for periods last season, certainly wouldn't write it off.

Burns and Reid had both featured in the first team before their loan spells, so like I said, serious contenders for a first team place.

We have no idea what he would be willing to accept, we signed David James in our last stint in the championship (yes on more than others) but given our quality not quantity idea now then I think in our structure we could afford similar wages to what James was rumoured to be on, then would be down to what the player would want.

For all we know if he were considering us it could be because he likes the look of the club and given how long his career has been is fairly well off so could be happy to take a cut for guaranteed football. As for his turned down renewal, could be he just wanted out of QPR, could you blame him? They brought in Gladwin and Luongo so bolstering in his position and looking to the future.

Again I don't expect us to sign him, however I don't dismiss rumours on the basis of just because and look at why the rumour could be true.

That's quite worrying IMHO. I had Reid as a possible reserve but Wes could do with a year away to see if he's good enough. While I hope they both prove to be of a sufficient standard. Wes needs a consistent loan at, say, Plymouth, for Reid it's now or never IMHO.

By all accounts Reid has looked bright in the friendlies while in Portugal in a more advanced role than before. Admittedly only one of those games was against decent opposition though

Well first team place I meant subs bench as well. I don't think Wes would be a bad impact sub. I think he could do some real damage coming on after 75 mins or so, maybe a loan to league 1 with a 24 hour recall. He needs to be tested at a higher standard than league 1, he showed with Cheltenham he could score in league 2, 4 in 14 in a relegation bound team could be worse.

Agreed time for Reid to show his worth or be moved on this season. He's older than Bryan so he's had his time to develop so to say. The only loan I'd want to see him go on would be one to the top of league 1. But given our squad size any player is a contender atm, 1 or 2 injuries and they're in the thick of it.

So.. much.. Bristol... City...

Some in this section may have failed to recognise the magnitude of our support on here, because it quietened down over the summer months. Make no mistake about it, there are a lot of us. It's quite funny tbh.

Is it funny? I personally don't want to read two to three pages of a transfer rumours thread about Aaron Wilbraham to be honest. You're, in the main, cracking posters but by God you can't half derail and in some cases ruin threads.

Rhoys not Rhys, it may have been mentioned earlier but lost amidst the Aaron Wilbraham v Joe Garner "Pele off"

He'll be injured half the season made of glass, but a good player going forward on his day
