Given that Forest have to play almost all our rivals before the season is out, I should be rooting for Forest to sign Rhodes. But it's a pretty fishy deal.

When it comes to Blackburn, I don't think Bowyer has much say, judging by the Venky's record in recent years.

Yeah, I don't particularly think it means anything.

As they play our rivals, I don't mind them signing him. Certainly prefer them over Norwich if he doesn't come here. Wrong if they're allowed to exploit the rules like that though.

So M-Dogg accepts it's ok to cheat, yet he'd vilify Leeds and Derby if they did the same.

Why isn't Paterson getting a game at the minute?

Not too sure. Neither Pearce nor Freedman have taken a shine to him. Davies played him out of desperation due to our injuries piling up and he shone. Was our best player from January onwards. He's still raw and very lightweight but he needs to be given more gametime.

He's had 2 issues really. Firstly, I'm not sure what his best position is and secondly, anywhere he could potentially play is taken up by supposedly ''better'' players.

He has the odd run out, does nothing and then gets taken off. But he needs minutes, like everyone, to build up some confidence. I like him a lot and hope we aren't left wondering what if should he seek football elsewhere.

That's now three managers he's not been able to win over (including the numpty who signed him in the first place!)

Wonder how he felt when Grabban missed the Wigan game and a youth player who couldn't get in York's team got on the pitch ahead of him...

Given we've still got to play Forest and Derby, I'd quite like him to go pretty much anywhere else...

He's just lurking. Waiting to come off the bench and score the goal that takes us up.

Boro offering to pay full 40k wages and pay 12m if promoted. Madness.

We're definitely out of this now. Forest could up their bid I guess.

We're after Ross McCormack now apparently.

He's turned into a donkey, looks like he can't be arsed. Maybe a change would get him going.

You guys are just going for it now then. When we got promoted from here the signing of Billy Sharp and his goals in the January window was pivotal. Can't argue with 9 goals in 11 starts taking away the over reliance of Rickie Lambert and nudging us over the finishing line.

Yea same for us that season. When you're at the top in a tightly congested league any signing will get you an advantage, even if they are not the best players available. More options, more competition for places - Only a good thing. I think this is where Bournemouth have missed out in the last couple of months and allowed the other teams in.

We signed Jason Roberts who was our only first team regular that half season who improved our attack tenfold. Then we made the less publicised half season signings of Hayden Mullins, Thomas Cywka, Matt Connolly and Benik Afobe who all contributed and did a job, without needing to be regulars. Probably wouldn't of won the league without them.

Darren Bent had a similar effect, 7 goals in 10 games (6 starts) but since losing him at Fulham a few weeks ago we've dropped off in form without a recognised striker. We're in a good position and we're going for it.

So much for most clubs not having the financial power to sign Jordan Rhodes! Half the league's interested.

What is it with East Midland teams and throwing money around to get promoted. Doesn't seem like many lessons are being learnt from the decline of clubs like Leeds or Portsmouth. I'm happy for us to stay above the line and play many of our academy players.

Another curious question, Is there any other club in this league who doesn't rely on loan players? Wolves are the only team I can think of.

We've used one loan so far this season, The keeper. Outfield wise nothing.

Half the Championship are throwing money around to get promoted.

Bit harsh to compare us to the likes of the old Leeds/Pompey regimes. I don't think we're going over the top, we're not throwing huge transfer fee's and long, luxurious contracts around in this division. GSE's investment over the past 7/8 years has been sound, getting us out of a horrible mess in 07/08 after being relegated from the PL. It took us the best part of 5 years to get back on par financially, so much cost cutting and the selling of our best players, which get's you no where. Our football club has been shaken up from top to bottom off the pitch and that's where we've freed up a lot of expenditure.
Our board changed it's direction and action plan when they sacked Nigel Clough and appointed McClaren and his coaching team who no doubt doubled the wages of the previous management. Extra income from adding investors to the GSE board, stadium naming rights etc..

We've spent a couple of million on a young, promising English midfielder and added a few bargains from the lower leagues, tied down our young academy products on contracts too. 500k in January for Albentosa, picked a few players up on free's. Everything else has been purely loans, the push we made in January is a gamble but hardly going to wreck our football club. Neither will 400k for Jordan Rhodes' stay here if he comes. We wash our hands in the summer of these deals.

It's not just the East Mids clubs that are spending money; Norwich/Fulham/Cardiff all spent big with their parachute payments, Boro, Bournemouth and Brentford all spent millions too.
I can't be arsed to trawl through everybody's transfer fee's spent this year but I imagine there's plenty above us even with the wages we pay of loans.

To be honest it was more towards what Forest and Leicester have spent in the last fee years. Still the loans for Derby cant have been cheap with the wage budget. To have Jordan Ibe, Tom Ince, Darren Bent on loan in one season and talk of Jordan Rhodes and Matt Jarvis is a bit OTT in my opinion. Especially when most clubs in the league wouldn't be able to afford one of those never mind 3.

We do seem to have more financial power since iPro and Mel Morris (Candy Crush) came in.

If we truly are chasing the likes of Rhodes and McCormack, I think that says a lot about Martin's injury. He's been one game away for the last few games...

The one that raised my eyebrows was the Bent deal, that was a big statement. Brighton were happy paying his wages mind and were still interested in January. Ibe is still on a youth contract at Liverpool from when he signed from Wycombe in 2012 so that's not one to worry about, Ince we paid the fee for reduced wages so there again it's not too bad. Lingaard will be a steady wage contribution mind. Rhodes is being reported as wages only so you're looking at 400k ish so most clubs in this division could afford it, they just won't take the gamble/don't need him and rightly so.

Bottom line is we have no striker and we're currently second with Norwich, Boro, Wolves and Watford as our next 4 games. There's 10 matches left to define our season and we feel like we need to make the most of this opportunity. I don't feel bad or greedy, whilst other clubs spent/tried to spend money in January our approach is the one of loans and it's not done us too bad so far.

Rhodes played (and scored) tonight, I guess that suggests a potential move is less likely.

Michael Jacobs has joined Blackpool for the rest of the season to save them from relegation.

McClaren said we never expressed any interest in Rhodes (as has Karanka), and also seems to be the case with McCormack.

These newspapers. Grrrr.
