We appear to have gone in (according to Nixon) with a £1M bid for Alfie Mawson. I appreciate that's a shit / first bid but of more concern is why we need another CH. Either Flinty is off, we're going to 3 at the back or Magnusson is going to play left back. I can't see Flint, Magnusson or Mawson being happy to sit on the bench.
Strange.

Probably not true. Nixon is useless. I said that on OTIB at the start of pre season and got a bit of stick. Be very surprised if we are in for him.

We paid compensation to Brentford for him so I doubt there is a sell on clause. £1million + clauses seems a fair price.

Unless he wants to go Craig, I would have thought you would expect a higher price for him as he's under contract bud? He looks decent every time I have seen him and £1M doesn't seem to be a big fee this window.

He's been great for us, and was great for Wycombe the season before last. He's never played above League 1 though and the compensation paid to Brentford I doubt was more than around £250k.

Don't get me wrong I don't want to lose him, but £1million plus some add-ons seems fair enough to me.

Whether he wants to leave is a different matter though. If he wants to stay then great, because we don't need to sell him.

Compensation deals usually include a sell on fee, our deals for Grigg Bentley and Egan all included on.

From what I heard at the time it was £400k + 20% of profit, which was a good deal for us by all accounts.

Yorkshire has some stunning places, the Peak District, the Dales, you just need to have a look.
I know that, been there many times as I have friends in Dalton.
The west country's better though and a lot warmer as well! ;)
By the way, we were in the top flight for 4 years a good while ago.

Ha, stop biting, I preferred pre PL football, we weren't bad at it, we were 3rd in the country in the final season of the pre PL era

It's marginally warmer mate, not like switching Sheffield for San Antonio is it. I like Devon and Cornwall but not fussed about Somerset, Avon or Gloucestershire but as we said, each to their own.

In that case Bristol City need to double their offer then.

No mate, Huddersfield Dalton. Always spend a few days around Holmfirth when I'm up there. Lovely part of the world to be fair but it's always the summer when I visit apart from when we play 'Udders. I would imagine it's pretty grim where I go (up by Castle tower) when the winter arrives.

Pretty pleased with Jake Kean, a lot of experience for a back up keeper.

:hypo: It's a move to the West country from Yorkshire so, yes, yes it is! :fing:
^^^ this. :D

As I'm sure you know Walkley, we've had a whopping nine years in the top flight. I remember we were discussing Lancashire club's top flight history on here a few months back and you got the amount of years they'd spent in that division almost spot on.

I was shocked when I read Dalton and Huddersfield then with someone from Bristol!

Corking place Holmfirth, my lass lives not far from there and it's a great drive in the Summer. Impossible to get to in Winter mind..

Uppermill is a similar place to visit too if you ever get chance, although that's more towards Oldham.

An old Yorkie friend of mine met his Mrs, a Bristolian, at my wedding 20 odd years ago. They settled up there rather than down here.

Apparently some genuine truth in the Mawson link. Lansdown won't hesitate to invest in a young player, but I'm not sure where he'd fit in here. Magnusson didn't sign for £2.5m to sit on the bench and Flint's one of our best players.

I suppose you can never have enough good options, but Mawson and Flint are both good enough to be starting in any side in this division. Magnusson remains to be seen.

I reckon he's expecting a big bid for Flinty and covering it. If it doesn't transpire then happy days as LJ will have some serious competition for those places. It would be a statement of intent to me, if we kept Flint and this deal went through as we would have a €3M Icelandic International who may not get a place in the team.
Happy days for us Cidereds, especially if we get Matthews and a striker (Abraham).
