Grant Ward of Spurs, on loan at Rotherham last season, set to sign for Ipswich today. Sounds promising.

More transfer news for us. Midfielder Joao Teixeira of Benfica (not the same guy as the one from Liverpool /Brentford / Brighton) is set to sign on loan in the next couple of days.

I'll be honest and say I have never heard of nearly any of these players we are linked with.
I wonder if the large number of Portugese speakers in your team will cause a bit of a split in the squad. Might not be that good for squad harmony.

Then again if they're far better than anyone else in the league you might walk it anyway!

We seem to have exploded into life today, in talks over John Brayford and Lee Gregory apparently to add to the Osman rumours coming back to life. Both good players but I can't help but feel a case of panic buys about them considering their age and high prices.

Conflicting reports now about Diame. Some saying it's mostly done and dusted, others claiming he's on his way to Austria with Hull.

They're welcome to him from what I've seen of what you lot have done to Baker, looked decent so far in pre-season.

As I said, was excellent for us, probably as solid a centre half as you'll get at this level.

To be fair, he's not looked half as good as Elphick, but he's certainly looking far more solid and composed than he was previously.

If he comes in, I've read he'll act as cover across the back which is exactly what we need. On a scale of 1 to full blown Villa though, how bad was he last year?

£2m for Gregory ain't bad considering how hyper-inflated the market has become.

Have you seen any concrete sources for this, by the way? Our forum has only come up with a vital football link and some bod off Twitter.

Not quite as bas as the rest of our defenders (bar Hutton). Does that alleviate your fears?:lol::lol::lol:

Came up on SSN a minute ago that Wednesday paid £4m for Abdi. Very steep for a player who turns 30 in a couple of months.

It's actually £4m with £2m extra if we get promoted, would be a club record.

Is it excessive? Probably, but he's a 1 in 5 midfielder which is a rarity.

We need cover and cover he'll be. Can't be dealing with a second Steven Taylor though. It does slightly if I'm being honest - you're going to be our rivals this year and if he's not too bad for you he can be not too bad for us instead ha.

I don't know him personally but the fan who runs the Vital Wigan website seems pretty well connected within the club. The fact that he broke the story means it probably it has legs to it. That doesn't mean the deal will actually happen, the article states that we're just in negotiations so a long way to go me thinks. Regardless of his goal tally last season 2m for a 27 year old is a lot of money and considering Bradshaw went for only 500k earlier in the window it just adds to my feeling that we're panicking due to our desperation to sign a striker and the season starting in 4 days.

Abdi will prove to be a steal at £4M, he's a Premier League quality player.

I didn't say he's not bad, I essentially said he's not as bad as Lescott and Richards. That's not a compliment.

John Brayford was excellent for us. I'm stunned his career has turned out the way it has. Nevertheless, I'm sure he'll still be a good player at this level.

Would be pleased with McManaman especially on a loan deal, we need some pace out wide and on his day will be one of the best at this level. Sadly he's not got a look in at West Brom so a loan would suit both parties.

Phenomenal signing, would walk into any team at this level, and probably a couple of PL teams as well.
Hopefully he can be what we've been craving for years but obviously you have to be careful about all signings really. Always wary of players who go to the middle-east but is still only 31 and played a full season in La Liga last year. If he can be motivated (helps that we have Monk in that regard) then fingers crossed it'll work out as you'd hope based on his quality/experience, but will just have to wait and see really.

Do Wolves' new owners also own Benfica?

Nah, just the Mendes link...

Also central midfielder Joao Teixeira has signed on a season long loan from Benfica.

Anderson Talisca deal is supposed to be close to being done. I still can't believe we're spending €25m on 1 player... I really would hope to invest that sort of money much more wisely.

Our starting XI is going to be strange vs Rotherham, half the team speaking English, half speaking Portuguese, and an Italian manager...

Speaks great English though, like what I'be heard from him so far. Interesting that his record isn't as bad as it would seem, virtually sacked for no reason that made sense by Sampdoria who then did worse and seems to have turned a few teams around and then left too.
