Ah been calling it Sid James since I went there in 1991 when there was about 18k there pal, no offence meant. Could call it the STD Arena :)

I was trying to work out the acronym there meanwhile attempting to shoehorn Sports Direct Arena in. Jesus wept, it's been a long week.

Signed PSG forward Yakou Meite on a three year deal today. That literally came from nowhere with no rumours, though I have never heard of him. 20 years old, only played once for PSG.

Had a bid of £6M rejected for Anthony Knockaert. Makes sense as we need a winger but didn't even know we'd been linked.
Please, please no. Of all the "difference makers" we have who we'd be reluctant to sell (especially to a rival), I imagine he'd top the list. Absolutely crucial to our chances.

Been a really quiet window for us in terms of incoming signings, mostly as we have the bulk of a pretty settled squad there all ready to go again but it's unnerving seeing all these reports of numerous bids for Dunk, Stephens and now Knockaert. I'll be relieved once this window's over.

We do definitely still need a striker and centre back though, the latter quite urgently as every senior CB is injured currently except Dunk..

We could have had him on a free 2 weeks ago, that's probably the most obvious BS rumour this year

20 years ago today we signed Shearer for £15M. Now there's a transfer rumour and subsequent confirmed deal that makes me sad, old and nostalgic in equal measure.

Remember my Dad letting me skive off school to go see him unveiled at the Gallowgate.

Kodjia to Villa for £10m according to the Sun today.

That would be a fair price and one we should accept if true. The player gets a move up the ladder, Villa get a goalscorer and we get adequate compensation for our gamble last summer.

And we are left with who a week before the season kicks off? Selling this close to the season without any replacement in place would be ridiculous. Our other forwards are league one at best.

£10m??? I value Forestieri at £15m then.

We paid £3m for Gary Hooper who is at least a consistent scorer at this level.

And then add the fact that unless we find another bargain overseas we would end up spending a fair chunk of any profit to get a player who will most likely want higher wages than Kodjia's on at present.

People forget it's not the fee to buy a player that is the main problem but the wage any proven player would want.

That's because his club didn't want him? So off course you'd get him cheaper. It's never what the player is worth, but what the player is worth to their current club.

What's Hooper's wages?

25-30k a week apparently.

I'm saying that fees are vastly inflated and should be far more realistic.

We quoted Derby more than £10m back in June, hate to think what our valuation of him is now.

Kodjia's on less than £15k, so it works out in that sense, but by the same token if someone like Villa come in and offer to double his wages it'd turn his head.

Probably not, that said I didn't bring the subject off realistic fees up.

Let's be honest, football lost touch with the real world long ago.

Oh and I doubt he's on a penny over 20.

Pittance..........

Another signing, Portuguese 28 year old international (once upon a time anyway) full back Silvio joins from Atletico Madrid on a 2 year contract. If he can get over his injury problems, we have got ourselves a great player here. Wasn't long ago when he was playing in Europa League finals and international matches for Portugal. Hopefully we get that player rather than the one who sits on the treatment table for 12 months at a time.

Some small but very strange news. Andy Delort, remember him? That player we decided to steal from the noses of Wolves, Charlton and Brentford for a laugh and who ended up hardly kicking a ball until he was sold a year later? Yeah him, well he's subject of an approach from Mexican team Tigres, who want to buy him from Caen to replace Gignac and Caen are demanding 12m Euros (yep you heard me right 12m Euros)! Well should this deal go through we'll be entitled to a sell on (not a clue how big) so that'll be an extra 1m in the kitty. Every little helps!

McCormack is a good signing for Norwich. I don't think £12m is that bad of a price, either. If it was a gamble then it would be, but McCormack isn't a gamble - he's about as much of a sure thing as you get at this level and the prize for going up certainly covers the £12m outlay.
