£2m bid for Mannone accepted by most reports. If we're spending £2m on a keeper, should mean we have a good amount to spend on a first choice striker.

Probably more than I would have liked, but still cheaper than David Button would have cost us, and appears to be the going rate for Championship keepers now.

Not sure what it leaves Sunderland..

We've been linked with a winger by Swedish (I think- makes most sense given nationality and his club) press.
Niclas Eliasson.

No, I haven't heard of him either.

From the dreaded Youtube clips he seems a tricky winger, predominantly left footed but able to play on the right and cut inside. With the ability to take a decent set piece.

When we get these out of nowhere reports in foreign press they tend to be fairly reliable.

Kodjia, Diedhiou, Moore, Magnusson all were rumours that started off as such.

Bid gone in for Eliasson. Boring, announce McManaman, Murphy or something to wet the appetite.

Couldn't feel less arsed about the football atm, keep the cricket coming...

I thought they had blown it to be fair!
Anyway, we'd better not sidetrack the thread or we'll get told off. One thing though, Neville Rd isn't a patch on Taunton! ;)

Just watching the highlights now, looked very bleak at one stage didn't it?

And haha, no pitch in the country is a patch on Taunton if you're a batsman :D

Mick McCarthy says Reading bid 3m for Bodvarsson, rather than the 1m estimated figure. We've had their pants down if true.

If a club will pay that much for a club song they can pay it for an Icelandic striker who comes with the clap. Seems he's where mums go.

Alvaro Negredo the latest striker linked, but we're behind Besiktas on that one.

Lucas Joao to Wolves rumour.....

Presumably because he's Portuguese. Same with Nelson Oliveira. We're also linked with Vasco da Gama. Although he's not as old as John Terry, would still be awesome. How about Ferdinand Magellan and Henry the Navigator?

Wouldn't let Joao go to Wolves unless it's for stupid money, he's the only player in our forward line with a bit of pace. Not worked out for him here so far but last season was wasted with injury, came back not up to speed and got loaned out. We know he's got the ability it's just wether or not he's going to get the game time here.

I wouldn't mind Lucas Joao aslong as he wasn't the only striker we planned on bringing in. Joao along with Afobe/Ihenacho/Aboubakar/Negrado would be perfect.

Nice to see that we angered Mick by taking his signing

He should get hired by 1FF for fishing like that.

Sadly for both him and Wolves, we paid an initial £750k with some minor add-ons.

How would you know how much a club paid for a player rather than a football manager who was also trying to sign him?

Yeh, I'd go with McCarthy on that one. He had just under two years on his contract left so that sounds about right.

But even £750k seems a lot for a man who scores every 12 hours of playing time.

No, he's not.
Joao scores every 5 hours 24 minutes. Garner scores every 7 hours. Garner has more goals (22 vs 9) simply because he's played much longer in this division. I know which I'd rather have. Neither of them.
(And before Walkley jumps in about Dicko..I'm well aware that both of these are more prolific than anyone we have right now)

Based on their last full seasons at this level, Garner had a better strike rate.

His form as a bit part player for Forest 5 or 6 years ago doesn't really concern me.

I'd rather have Garner, he'll do well under McCarthy.

Didn't Garner get six in 44 in 15/16?

Joao in his first season in the FL got 8 in 48 in all comps, I'd suggest that is marginally better as he was a sub more often than not.

Because Mick is clearly talking shit here, making a excuse as to why the player didn't join Ipswich
