No doubt he will sign now, but I would be surprised if Wolves had even tentatively looked at Hugill, they seen to want a big strong, yet fairly mobile forward to be involved in the play. Bonatini actually looks decent and is unlucky to not have more than the one goal.

He's scored 2, vs Middlesbrough and Cardiff.

So you've never actuallly seen Hugill play then? because that's exactly what he is.

You've literally just described Hugill to a tee. He's 6ft3, strong, holds the ball up incredibly well and is one of the fastest players in our side. My only criticism of him is his finishing but he's improving there too.

He's always looked like a target man. Not a technical footballer. Defo havent seen enough it woukd seem.

Technically he's not amazing, competent enough but you won't see him playing intricate stuff on the edge of the area.

He's very good in the air, he runs the channels and for his size he's quick. 2 examples would be his burst into the box to win our penalty against Sheff Wed on the opening day and his quality goal against Villa last season.

He's very much a powerful target man but he's a rarity in that he has decent pace, which is why I wouldn't be surprised to see him rock up in the Prem one day.

I had a quick read of PNE online and a lot of your fans on there seemed to be critical of his chances to finishing ratio. Poor finishing is the reason we look likely to sell Dicko so I think strengthing in that specific area will be our priority.

Sounds like Bodvarsson to me. Not sure why we would need 3 target men when we play 1 up top.. but I will never second guess our transfer strategy.

Hugill can struggle in one on one situations but he's a good poacher, I think he'll better last season's total, bearing in mind that it was his first full season as a regular. Despite being 25, he's still developing after only coming into the game late.

He'll piss all over Dicko's and Bodvarsson's goal tallies.

See that is what I was trying to get at with my first post SF. We arent after that, we are after someone to fit the possesion based build up side of play and be dynamic but strong when isolated, he might adapt it as still early but what I've seen of Bonitini he can be a bit too one touch.

I've personally always thought Hugill was a Daryl Murphy type of footballer?

Dicko has a 1 in 3 goal ratio for Wolves, Hugill for Preston is what, 1 in 4/5?

He can play Murphy's role but he can also stretch defences, keeping possession is all well and good but you want to create space and chances, Hugill is brilliant at taking two defenders out of the game to make space for anyone playing off him/ around him. McGeady thrived off him.

That includes Dicko's pre-injury record

He's gash now.

He's scored 2 goals so far this season, he isn't that bad. His record is actually quite similar to Hugill if being honest. My argument is why would we sell Dicko (rumoured to be 3m) and sign Hugill who has a similar record for anything ranging from 6m to 10m?

Because Hugill isn't the finished article and has more to his game than Dicko.

I''ve no doubts the likes of Costa and Jota would benefit more from playing off Hugill than they would Dicko.

Hugill probably could do a better job of holding the ball up, although I'm doubtful we need that type of striker. Costa and Jota aren't the sort of players that play off a target man. We're linked with every sort of striker so far this summer so fuck knows to be honest. I think if we do get anyone it will be someone nobody has heard of from abroad, similar to Bonatini.

Heard a little rumour that Sone Aluko will sign for us tomorrow.

Fulham linked with Jota as a replacement.

Looks likely.. and would be a bad deal too in my opinion.. Not sure why we would want Aluko when Jota is only going to cost slightly more.

Not that we even need anymore wingers/attacking midfielders anyway.. we've already brought in 3 this Summer and only lost one who was out on loan.

As decent as this Summer could be, I think our inexperience in having money to spend has shown, especially with the rumours/bids in the past couple of weeks. Quantity over quality in most cases. A heavily bloated squad with little improvement to the first choice eleven when compared to last season.

Hugill scored 12 goals last season? And is valued 8m? Got to laugh at how football has gone in the last few years.

I put this up on the Wolves forum I am part of but 12 goals isn't a bad return if they are important. In the last 9 seasons there have only been 36 players scored 20 or more goals in a season, and only 15 of them played for sides that were promoted. So off the 27 sides promoted in those 9 seasons only 13 had a gear break 20 goals, and you have sides like Hull and Cardiff in there whose top scorer got less than 10.

Yet a lot of fans seems to convert a '20 goal a season striker' like that is the be all and end all.

He's a lot more than a grafter to be fair.

He's improved immensely over the past 12 months since he became our main striker and he's turning into a hell of a striker. Absolute beast.

Not saying 8 million isn't ridiculous because it is. But at today's prices he is in my eyes worth at least that!

Journo on twitter saying Norwich are going to bid 3.5 mil for flint tomorrow. Still below our valuation but assuming that is their first bid so bound to start low.

Should be a decent signing if he can regain some sort of confidence. Was doing brilliantly in the Premier League for Hull until January if I remember rightly.
