Trust a Brentford fan to bring stats into it! Stats can be so misleading in football.
You’re looking at Waghorn on a goal scoring stat but his overall worth to the squad is far greater than that. He made the majority of our attacking play which wouldn’t show in an obvious statistic. You’d look at key passes etc.
Without Waghorn (who is a vital part of our current spine, along with Bialkowski) we’d be in (more) trouble down the league. Staying up is worth far more than £5m when you consider the difference in money you’d receive from being in the Champ to League 1. If someone wanted a player who could compliment what they’ve already got, then £5m would be a lot for him, but for us, he’s a vital part for where we are right now, and that is worth far more than £5m to us.
We sold Webster for £4m roughly with add ons taking up to potentially £7m+! Was a rather strange one for me, would never have said he was worth that, considering his injury record
Fuck that guy - he's not good enough to play here. And yes he would jump at the chance to play here, we're PL, Wednesday are not.Their owner today said if there's genuine Championship interest he'll want to leave haha.
Also, ark at Swansea...

If Waghorn is the vital component to avoiding relegation, then of course he's worth £5m and more. You watch him week in, week out, so of course you're knowledge of his importance to the team is beyond that of non-ITFC supporters. My point was simply that, at age 28 and with one good season under his belt at this level - despite having played Championship football for many seasons - it's unlikely that he'll continue to improve, or perhaps have quite as good a season in 18/19. If a player isn't going to improve beyond their current level, then accepting decent money for them is always a sensible option. We've just gone down this route with Egan.
That said, while he may not be worth £5m or £7m or however much in the transfer market, his value to you might be way beyond that level if he alone makes the difference between relegation and survival. I know that we've turned down bids that have accurately priced a player's worth in the open market, because their immediate value to us is above and beyond that amount. I seem to recall a price being put on McGoldrick that priced him out of a move and then he followed it up with injuries and poor performances for a couple of years. Didn't he recently leave on a free?
Well, you could argue that you did miss out on £7m, regardless of what he might have cost you before, you still could have had £7m but you chose to turn it down.Yes, McGoldrick left on a free following countless injuries. At the time however, keeping him was the best option. We didn't lose out on £7m because he came on a free if I recall. What's the point in keep selling players because they have had a good season, when they could easily keep them at no extra cost (may be an increased wage if the player wanted so) and potentially have further improvements. Much less of a risk than selling for loads of money and replacing with someone not necessarily ready to step up.
I remember him playing in midfield but not right back, fair dos. You happy with the Harrison deal? Reportedly £750k rising to £1.25m, thought Ipswich might wait on the Waghorn deal but seems he's gone for talks already.

Everyone has their value, if you guys are confident he’ll replicate his form then it’s perfectly sensible to turn down the bid. From the outside it would seem unlikely given his history of performances elsewhere.

Derby reportedly prepared to pay £8m now for Waghorn

Wouldn’t begrudge Evans for accepting that really. £5m from Sheffield United was a joke but £8m more like it. But the money HAS to be given to Hurst to spend.
I just get the feeling Waghorn wouldn’t go if we accepted a bid from Derby/Sheffield United
Derby never learn do they...
6m mate, one year left and doesn't look like he'll sign on. Shame but he'll be good in your system, his best times for us were when we played a back 3.JJH how much would Bryan cost? Linked with him incase Zinchenko falls through.
Hope so. Think the article says he has only a year left on his deal but the general consensus is that he has 2 years left which would add significant value.PNE & Ipswich interested in Jayden Stockley according to 'Sky sources'... my guess is that it's his agent at work.

You happy with McGoldrick? I think he's the sort of striker like Clarke that has always had immense talent but struggled to keep himself fit that Wilder will get firing. Saw he scored tonight as well.

Think Jon's chairman, was it him that did the interview with Twentyman or Steve? I can't remember. Our Chairman actually spoke?? In all the years I've been following City, I'm not sure I've ever actually seen Keith Dawe, our Chairman, in the flesh. If he walked past me in the steet I would be none the wiser TBH.
If you mean our owner, Steve Lansdown, fair enough but he ain't the Chairman WTGR. What on earth Dawe actually does, I have no idea but he's still officially the Chairman.
According to the OS, Dawe is still Chairman fella.Think Jon's chairman, was it him that did the interview with Twentyman or Steve? I can't remember.
