Scottish Sun reporting that we accepted £300k bids from Aberdeen & Peterborough for Eoin Doyle but the ginger c*** wouldn't drop his wage demands.

:bang:

I fucking hate him.

Trust a Brentford fan to bring stats into it! Stats can be so misleading in football.

You’re looking at Waghorn on a goal scoring stat but his overall worth to the squad is far greater than that. He made the majority of our attacking play which wouldn’t show in an obvious statistic. You’d look at key passes etc.

Without Waghorn (who is a vital part of our current spine, along with Bialkowski) we’d be in (more) trouble down the league. Staying up is worth far more than £5m when you consider the difference in money you’d receive from being in the Champ to League 1. If someone wanted a player who could compliment what they’ve already got, then £5m would be a lot for him, but for us, he’s a vital part for where we are right now, and that is worth far more than £5m to us.

We sold Webster for £4m roughly with add ons taking up to potentially £7m+! Was a rather strange one for me, would never have said he was worth that, considering his injury record

If Waghorn is the vital component to avoiding relegation, then of course he's worth £5m and more. You watch him week in, week out, so of course you're knowledge of his importance to the team is beyond that of non-ITFC supporters. My point was simply that, at age 28 and with one good season under his belt at this level - despite having played Championship football for many seasons - it's unlikely that he'll continue to improve, or perhaps have quite as good a season in 18/19. If a player isn't going to improve beyond their current level, then accepting decent money for them is always a sensible option. We've just gone down this route with Egan.

That said, while he may not be worth £5m or £7m or however much in the transfer market, his value to you might be way beyond that level if he alone makes the difference between relegation and survival. I know that we've turned down bids that have accurately priced a player's worth in the open market, because their immediate value to us is above and beyond that amount. I seem to recall a price being put on McGoldrick that priced him out of a move and then he followed it up with injuries and poor performances for a couple of years. Didn't he recently leave on a free?

Their owner today said if there's genuine Championship interest he'll want to leave haha.

Also, ark at Swansea...

Fuck that guy - he's not good enough to play here. And yes he would jump at the chance to play here, we're PL, Wednesday are not.

Yes, McGoldrick left on a free following countless injuries. At the time however, keeping him was the best option. We didn't lose out on £7m because he came on a free if I recall. What's the point in keep selling players because they have had a good season, when they could easily keep them at no extra cost (may be an increased wage if the player wanted so) and potentially have further improvements. Much less of a risk than selling for loads of money and replacing with someone not necessarily ready to step up.

Well, you could argue that you did miss out on £7m, regardless of what he might have cost you before, you still could have had £7m but you chose to turn it down.

Everyone has their value, if you guys are confident he’ll replicate his form then it’s perfectly sensible to turn down the bid. From the outside it would seem unlikely given his history of performances elsewhere.

I remember him playing in midfield but not right back, fair dos. You happy with the Harrison deal? Reportedly £750k rising to £1.25m, thought Ipswich might wait on the Waghorn deal but seems he's gone for talks already.

Not too fussed if I'm honest. I haven't been one of his bigger fans and had high hopes of him after his conference season but the following seasons in League 2 and 1 were poor IMO.

Good 4/5 months last season but I'm more than happy with 750K.

Tbf, a permanent move away could be what he needs to unlock the next level of his game. There is a talented player in there somewhere.

What's the point in taking £7m for a player a step above the rest of the squad when you can't guarantee you'll get an equally good replacement. You can't even go out and get a few players to improve the rest of the squad, as clubs will know you've got money to spend so would demand more money. Catch 22 there.

If it's viewed that he had a season that he could not replicate in the slightest, well that's just a pessimists view.

Pretty shit comparison, tbf mate. McGoldrick has always been prone to injury both before and after the Leicester bid, and whilst the club made a decision which most fans were happy with; it's difficult to relate that to a 28 year old Waghorn who has no relatable issues to date.

Fact of the matter his, his market value is above £5m as is our valuation, based on last season sure, but I couldn't really give a shit. The timing of a sale now sucks and his integral to what we do, and plan to do under Hurst this season. I'm optimistic about the prospect of him getting service from attack minded wingers driving at the back line.

So to sum up, £8m+ or jog on. I don't personally feel like anyone will meet that valuation before we kick off for the season, I just hope I'm right.

FFP isn't worth the paper it's written on.

Apparently our replacement for Egan is Bjorn Engels, 23 year old former Belgian Under 21 player, currently with Olympiacos.

Never heard of him, but sounds promising!

Derby reportedly prepared to pay £8m now for Waghorn

http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/martyn-waghorn-could-be-set-for-derby-1-5622154

Wouldn’t begrudge Evans for accepting that really. £5m from Sheffield United was a joke but £8m more like it. But the money HAS to be given to Hurst to spend.

I just get the feeling Waghorn wouldn’t go if we accepted a bid from Derby/Sheffield United

PNE & Ipswich interested in Jayden Stockley according to 'Sky sources'... my guess is that it's his agent at work.

I can't quite honestly believe it. He wouldn't be my choice - not denying he had a great year last season, but this has got Bradley Johnson, Jacob Butterfield & Nick Blackman written all over it.

I'm actually hopeful the Football League will stop the transfer due to FFP.

I've just watched his youtube video from last season. If I ignore the rest of his career. I can raise a faint smile.

Lots of different journalist jumping on it now, all suggesting he's pushing for a move. Marriott is also meant to be coming too.

Marriott & Waghorn. I can only assume Vydra, Martin & perhaps every other striker at the club is going.

JJH how much would Bryan cost? Linked with him incase Zinchenko falls through.
6m mate, one year left and doesn't look like he'll sign on. Shame but he'll be good in your system, his best times for us were when we played a back 3.

Hope so. Think the article says he has only a year left on his deal but the general consensus is that he has 2 years left which would add significant value.

He was at our fans’ forum tonight and was talking about how much he’s looking forward to this season with us but if a Championship club came in for him I’m sure he’d be off. Having said that I’m not convinced he’d cut it in the Championship as he’s not the most mobile, but he is a classy finisher. Would be a huge loss for us but I can’t imagine we’d accept less than £1M after seeing Eisa fetch that much.

Is jjh Bristol city's chairman now or summat :bg:
Our chairman's put a price on him at the back end of last season on BBC Radio Bristol mate

You happy with McGoldrick? I think he's the sort of striker like Clarke that has always had immense talent but struggled to keep himself fit that Wilder will get firing. Saw he scored tonight as well.

Hope you're right. 1 more striker and a loan deal for a winger maybe, no more sales and I'm confident we won't be near the bottom.

Our Chairman actually spoke?? :woo: In all the years I've been following City, I'm not sure I've ever actually seen Keith Dawe, our Chairman, in the flesh. If he walked past me in the steet I would be none the wiser TBH.

If you mean our owner, Steve Lansdown, fair enough but he ain't the Chairman WTGR. What on earth Dawe actually does, I have no idea but he's still officially the Chairman.

Think Jon's chairman, was it him that did the interview with Twentyman or Steve? I can't remember.

According to the OS, Dawe is still Chairman fella.
I think it was JL who gave that interview TBH but stand to be corrected.
Who is Dawe anyway?

Hope the Waghorn stuff doesn't materialise.

Obviously had a good year but don’t want us to throw daft money around again purely based on one season. Nothing wrong with Ipswich wanting big money, just hope we give it a miss.
