Surely Brentford wouldn't have played two 20yr olds alongside each other and Egan would have started alongside one or the other? hence why you've brought in this more experienced French guy.

Egan was captain wasn't he?
Egan was captain, but Yennaris is also "captain", he just doesn't get in the team. We don't tend to just give it to one of our best players.

Age doesn't really have anything to do with it. The average age of our team is only around 22-23, if you're good enough, you're old enough.

Egan would have got some games this season, he's a good player, but we're not the kind of team to spend £3m on a defender (Konsa) just to stick him on the bench. I'd be very surprised if our first choice pairing (at least for now) isn't Konsa and Mepham.

We brought the French guy in because we sold Egan, still needed a replacement.

Fair enough, will be interesting to see how you lot do defensively then, can't say I know anything about Konsa or Mepham.

Based on his form last season, he could have actually fired you into the play offs had you taken the gamble.

No doubt clubs will put strict clauses into loan deals because they want what’s best for the player, not the club. The club loaning the player wants what’s best for the club, not the player. No point a kid from a Chelsea going out on loan and sitting on the bench.

If nothing else, it at least encourages clubs at this level to do a little bit of homework on players before taking them on loan.

Agree, it sorts out the serious bidders from the time wasters.

If a bidding club has done extensive research then they should know if the loanee will be a regular or not. Also I suppose Liverpool know that Woodburn will be in demand at Championship level, they can’t insist a player plays but they can put financial penalties in the deal if their player doesn’t get games.

Wilder is obviously very confident that Woodburn will get plenty of playing time at Sheff Utd.

Sacked off, couldn't afford same thing I suppose. Anyway he's gone to Sunderland for £1m.

Apparently bringing Doyle in on loan, happy about that as he's gash at championship level if we got up and would cost a small fortune in wages.

Considering Wyke has gone for £500k, it doesn’t seem that money was the issue given Ipswich will want more than that for Garner.
Rather, Parkinson would rather have Garner instead of Wyke.

I don't think that's a good signing if Parkinson is going to play one up front like he did last year.

He doesn't win many headers and isn't strong enough to bully defenders at this level, much better when he's got a strike partner to share the load and he gets good service from out wide.

We’ve signed a new target man in Magennis, I imagine Garner would play off him.

Doesn't matter how much scouting you do, they're young lads who are going to have dips in form, being forced to play them when better, in-form options are available in order to avoid a fine doesn't do the club or the player any good.

Talking bollocks, with respect.

Anyone signing a loan player with a clause for minimum games, unless they do so from the start with the outlook that they are happy to & can afford to pay the fine should he not perform and have already factored this in,; needs to have a word with themselves.

"Extensive research' on a player doesn't make the slightest bit of difference on how he's going to perform in the season and a club should never ever be fielding someone just to avoid a fine.

Glad we don't operate like some of the clubs in this league.

In possibly one of the most shameless transfers of the summer, Villa have signed goalkeeper Andre Moreira on loan from Atl Madrid for the season. Yes his agent is Jorge Mendes.

They are ruining the game. Shameful.

According to them, whereas other media outlets are stating it’s half that.
Like where? Both Sky and the sun have said it's £600k and £500k(respectively) going up to a million with installments. Not one place has said it's £500k we rejected 3 bids from them the last been £800k only last week, no chance we'd reduce our demands.

Pantillimon vs Maenpaa, battle of the bomb scares
Pantillimon looked good at the end of last season tbf. Can think of one goal first game that he should have kept out but otherwise was solid.

Expecting Ipswich to meet Shrewsbury's asking price for our CB Toto Nsiala in the next 48 hours, believed to be around 750k plus, especially with him into his last 12 months contract.

Nolan has 2 years on his contract and it will take a hefty fee for any club to prise him away.
Shrewsbury are likely to get a windfall in the next few days as well which is 20% of Ryan Woods expected transfer fee from Brentford to Swansea, so Shrewsbury can afford to drive a hard bargain with the clubs who are showing interest in Nolan.

Caldwell and Askey suggested at last nights manager forum Shrewsbury have 2 players lined up should Toto and Nolan leave but there will be no deals in or out if Shrewsbury are not offered what they believe the players to be worth.

I know time is moving on for Ipswich to get CD in but my personal view is that no way is Toto good enough for the Championship is too prone to errors and will get slaughtered.
Nolan though is a class act.

I see it’s been confirmed you’ve had official bids for the two now. By text as well which to me hints it in fact was Hurst!

Your lot must really hate us right now

Yup, combined bid for the two supposedly turned down. Just a matter of time you'd think, though as they have both handed in transfer requests today.

Also means we have ended our pursuit of Tilt from Blackpool in all likelyhood after seeing 700k rebuffed. A little disappointed with that one and think we should have met their £1m valuation based on the videos I've seen of him. He's also handed in a transfer request but I think our interest has cooled.

Ipswich are playing a dangerous game here. I guess they needed to break the mould and this could be the way to do it, but investing a lot in unproven players is risky.

I don't see it that way at all, if I'm honest. Unless by dangerous game you're suggesting we'll be disappointed with a mid table finish.

Given the experience we have at existing at the club, I think they compliment quite well. Not considering the likes of our very own Dozzell, Downes and Nydam which we are all pretty excited to see this season. I'm not saying anything more than a 14th/15th place finish is expected, but I would also be dumbfounded if we found ourselves in any kind of relegation battle this season. Other than that, this season is a bit of a question mark in relation to what our goals & ambitions should be.

Overall, I'm really happy with Hurst and the recruits he's made so far. And frankly, he knows a damn sight more about the league below than any of us. I'm optimistic for entertainment in the season ahead.

Fair play, hope it works out for you! Hurst seems like a decent enough bloke too.

We’ve more than likely spent less on the 5/6 players we’ve brought in than Forest have on one player! I know what risk I’d rather take!

But like TB says, the experienced ones we’ve got appear to really be helping blend the experience with potential.

From what I saw at the West Ham game, I’d settle for 15th if we play that style compared to Magic Micks dross

Have to say I don’t like the way the players have put in transfer requests. I’d be annoyed if Waghorn did it as would mean we’d get lower offers or a player who doesn’t want to play for the club.

There should be a clause that if a player puts in a transfer request, he goes unpaid until it’s resolved. if a club doesn’t put in a reasonable offer, he should have to pay back a percentage of any transfer fee, signing on fee and agent fees the club paid out when signing him. Huge breach of contract right there.

Stoke reportedly put in a bid of £1m for Knudsen. Seeing as he’s been at the World Cup and played showing off his long throw, not surprised there.

If Stoke want him, they’ve got a lot more than £1m to spend so hopefully we ask for a bit more. I wouldn’t be against him moving on to be honest, was clearly a Mick fan and can be really inconsistent.

Agree 100%. If we can get £2m for him I'd be happy to look for a replacement. He's steady, nothing more, nothing less. Only bonus is that he's looked OK at CB when required; but the crisis in that position now seems to be easing.
