Rumours suggesting that us and Coventry are looking at German striker Marvin Ducksch. He's one we were linked with two seasons ago, but he chose to stay in Germany and we got Pukki instead, However, the fact that we've tried before and that he's worked with Farke at Dortmund before suggests there could be some legs in this.

Presumably it would also mean that Drmic would be departing, which would be excellent news.

Coventry will probably get him, they gotta stay up somehow

Where have you heard that? Not heard that name on our end but would fit with our scouting strategy.

Mentioned on the German equivalent of Talksport apparently, so may well just be a case of an agent getting his client's name out there after a decent season. But he is a player who would fit our strategy as well, so could well be something in it.

Meanwhile, Lewis to Liverpool isn't happening as they wouldn't up their offer, so that's good for ensuring we get maximum value out of any young players who do leave (as it's clear we're going to hardball anyone who comes in for them, rather than letting them go cheap just because we've been relegated).
Alan Nixon is claiming that we're in for Burnley's Ben Gibson, who I believe is meant to be currently training with Middlesbrough, while local journalist Nick Mashiter (usually the most reliable of our local journalists when it comes to transfer stories) is suggesting we're trying to get in Chelsea's Ethan Ampadu on a season-long loan. EDIT: And it seems we've failed, as our local sources are saying he's off to Fulham instead.

Nope, it seems to be annual charade now. I’m getting bored of it. If his agent is trying to play games again, get rid - bored of this nonsense of a player who isn’t as good as he thinks he is.

Yes, scored a great goal at Hull (which was his only goal last season wasn’t it?), terrorises defences and gets fouls constantly, but I think we could improve on him somewhat with the wages freed up.

He has signed this morning by the looks of things.

So all out of contract players we offered terms to have now signed. Good news but need a few new faces now so we progress from last season I think. Need a right back, left back and centre half as a minimum I think and perhaps a centre forward.

I see we are being linked with a Liverpool fullback in the last few days - interesting but none of our rumours have amounted to much so far and in fact Clark was straight out of left field.

The band is back together then. Nice to get that business all sorted with less than 5 weeks to go until the new season starts.

On Adam Lewis, I have a feeling that story has legs - very much in the Jones book. I had a look at a few videos last night and also the FMDB app. A left back yes, but very much in the James Justin left wing model and longer term could well be a good fit for a midfield role. If you compare him v Potts, I'd say Lewis has more athleticism, but Potts the better defender. Would provide great competiton, because I don't think we can rely on Galloway.

Good to know as I’d no knowledge of him! We know we need an athlete there and for me Potts can look a bit out of his depth at this level.

Only concern is we know the jump to senior football is tough and seems to only have 1 senior appearance so far. Going straight into the championship will be bloody hard unless unless the lad is really special. Be good if we get a Bree type at fullback - i.e. youthful but played a fair bit rather than one who might be quite raw a la Bolton. Probably tough to do on our budget though.

I was very impressed with him in an attacking sense and has got a seriously good left peg. I think he's better than Bolton, but he'll have to do more defending in that position than attacking, unless he plays in that roving LW role.

Gwion Edwards is interesting both Middlesbrough and Luton - he has 1 year to go on his 3 year contract at Ipswich after signing from Peterborough for £700,000.

He is someone who caught my eye when he played for Crawley and hoped we would go for. Instead he went to Peterborough who could offer him a higher division at the time.

Seems to have stalled at Ipswich, scoring just 2 goals playing out of position.

Kieran Sadlier signed a two year deal as expected, he looks a good player judging on his form for Rovers and he is in our price range.......free agent!

Do we have any Barnsley fans on here? We've signed Adam Jackson from Hibs.

Middlesbrough ‘increasingly frustrated’ that they’ve been unable to agree a fee for our captain and centre half Charlie Goode. The difference is probably about £300k. Just bloody pay up.

Rumours on Twitter reporting that Dominic Samuel didn't pass his medical so the deal collapsed.
A shame for the lad and the club, hope he can sort out whatever problem showed up.

No, Luton fans have kinda taken it over here

If we weren’t here it would be you talking rubbish into the void!

Thought we had the monopoly on any ex Barnsley players! We’ve got 7 i think and everything not been far off fielding a whole team at times! We lost a few but managed to restock with Clark but was touch and go for a while. Looks like he was solid for them but then lost his place to Pinnock and Lindsay in the League 1 season for obvious reasons as they were both very good.

All seems very quiet to me at this level transfer wise. Thought we would see an uptick this week as teams come back but doesn’t seem much movement going on. I thought we might be a bit more active than we have been especially with the early flurry of players we got linked with but just the one so far.

COVID impact or just not been enough time between seasons for the wheels of the market to be greased yet?

Or teams are just putting unrealistic valuations on players at all levels or agents wanting too much in wages, considering there's 1400 out of contract footballers this summer!

We’ve missed out on Albian Ajeti from West Ham, had a £4.5m bid accepted but he wants to go to Celtic (understandably). Shame as it’s the second summer in a row he’s turned us down. As usual we’re finding it hard to get our striker targets over the line.

Who is Kerk? You’re being too obvious with your trolling there suggesting Akinfenwa.

Kerk is an striker playing in the Dutch league. He is fast, accurate and smart on the ball.
Well, I know nothing about this player - and who knows if Brentford are looking at him or not - but if they aren’t, it’s because they know a lot more about football and the types of players needed than you are I do.

I was.watching the friendly from FC Utrecht against Ajax. Kerk likes to be the most right striker in Utrechts 4-3-3 formation. He likes to play it in to the box like TAA did last year against Barca. When Utrecht is defending, he usually drops back to create a 4-4-2. Utrecht is a local club thqt i follow and it could be.a good replacement for Benhrama. And it fits in The Bees scouting strategy (signing player no-one knows of)

I think Brentford’s scouting strategy is a little more sophisticated than ‘signing players no one knows of’.

So it appears the £18m salary cap will NOT be in place this coming season for Championship clubs. What a mess.

Farcical, but not at all surprising. I'll be impressed if it ever gets implemented (and even if it does, the gap between League 1 and the Championship will be far too large).

League 1 is not where the problem is, but as I've said it before, you can have a £2.5m cap and some teams will lose money, yet one team could spend £5m and make a profit. It is hardly fair.

The numbers have been plucked out of thin air:

League 2 - £1.1m TV money - £1.5m cap (136% of TV money)
League 1 - £1.5m TV money - £2.5m cap (167%)
Championship - £7m TV money - £18m cap (257%)

Where is the logic?
