Apparently we're after Denmark international and IFK Goteborg striker Lasse Vibe. Top scorer in the Swedish top division last season.

Sticking point is that Goteborg rate him at almost £2m which I doubt we can afford.

I'm not really sure why they can't afford him. What is the point of these Thai owners being here if they aren't going to splash the cash every once in a while. I know FFP is a bit of a close run thing for us, but how bad is our wage bill?

Bad enough for us to get a £1.3m loss in the Prem and £7.1m loss last season in the Championship.

The Thai's seem willing to spend £20m+ on our new training ground, so I assume it's all FFP. Also worth noting that parachute payments get reduced by £9m next season so we need to be ready for that.

We bought TK Rantie for over £1.5M and I believe he was top scorer in the Swedish league 2 seasons back, for Malmo. Often looks a bit out of his depth in the Championship, I don't think the standard is comparable.
Perhaps the quality is not very high (though his finishes look decent), but Rantie's only had two seasons there and doesn't look like he was top scorer, 10 goals in 32 games across those two.

Vibe got 2 in 14 first season, but last year got 23 goals in 26 games, so far more than Rantie. Enough for him to get 6 Danish caps and 1 goal internationally. He may have been playing out on the wing first season too, as he can and used to play there. Though i'm no expert on Swedish top division football so have no idea whether that was the case.

Not sure this one will happen though, almost £2m cost for a largely unproven striker. At the £1m or so we bid it may have been worth the risk. Either way it seems far cheaper than the English market though so hopefully we do look abroad for our striker in the next few days.

Well you can't argue with 23 in 26 I suppose!

I was pretty astonished to hear that Villa's wonder kid Carles Gil cost them 'just' £3M from Spain. It puts in perspective some of the money that is thrown about at this level, when a youngster like that can be found for a similar amount.

Has a lot to do with the distribution of TV money in La Liga compared to the Premier League, doesn't it? It's the reason why a couple of relatively high profile players at that level have tried their hand at the Championship in recent seasons. Better money at some of those clubs than many La Liga teams can offer.

Seems we may be getting Woolford from Millwall? Bit of a meh one, but he's looked useful on occasions when I've seen him and would give us a width option.

I like him. Good finisher and a bloody hard worker who doesn't shirk a challenge. Just doesn't have the pace or trickery to play as a proper wide man, but used correctly can be a proper asset.

Incidentally our new winger broke his leg today, so Woolford might not be allowed to go.

Woolford is the most non descript player I've ever seen in a Millwall shirt. If Salieri is the champion of mediocrity, then he is at least the spokesman.

No idea how that would be pronounced but that looks a quality name, "can't stop my vibe!"

Admit I am a sucker for quality names. Especially if there are decent obscene anagrams hidden away in there. Still waiting for a Jim Saville or Raoul Harries to turn up. Also waiting for the first fresh-faced footballer to come through to the senior ranks with the name Kunt, Phuqwitt, Faraje or La'Rodnee.

Looks like Edgar Cani will be our new target man. He's a five goal a season man so an improvement on Steve Morison anyway.

Talking of names, he's clearly the knockoff version of Edinson Cavani.

According to a Swedish reporter on twitter we bid £900k - rejected, bid £1.3m - rejected as Goteborg are holding out for £1.8m. So looks like we've pulled out which is a shame, as he wanted to join. Some rumours that Charlton will go straight in with a £1.8m bid (but given that he's playing in a friendly as we speak it can't be close).

I assume and am afraid that we've pulled out, not over a £500k difference in valuation, but because we put in our best performance of the season on Saturday, great attacking play and possibly Pogrebnyak's best game for us in a MOTM performance. So the board don't think a striker is as urgent as before when we were failing to take our chances. We still need a striker either way, our only options up front are Pogrebnyak and Cox..

Seems it could be a busy day in the Championship tomorrow. We want two wingers in, Ince being one of them. That depends on whether Lennon goes to Hull though.

I wonder if Forest Green or Altrincham have any spare players?

Linked with Joe Lolley from Huddersfield. Would be a totally uninspiring acquisition.

Bent Albentosa Warnock and quite possibly Ince.

Brilliant business by McClaren and co.

Seems we're still trying to get one of Hoilett and Phillips too.

Sergiu Bus joins Wednesday from CSKA Sofia, 22 year old striker who's got 10 in 19 in the Bulgarian top flight.

Sounds like we're having one last go at Demari Gray today. Sky and the like linking us with another bid and Howe this morning says that the club is prepared to pay a "high transfer fee" for the right player over a "long term vision". But he qualifies that by also saying that the club does not have a “bottomless pit” at its disposal and that he wouldn't "waste the owners' money".

Wait and see... ball in Birmnigham's court I think.

As usual a quiet deadline day expected at Portman Road. Probably a good thing with Mings and Bishop being linked with the big guns.

There is just no way that Yakubu is 32.
