Sky reckon we've bid something like £4-£5m for Gray and it's been rejected, with Birmingham now thought to be asking for £7m, having initially said £5M was their price.

Jesus. Please leave it there.

I know these things aren't paid up front in a lump sum, and will depend on various clauses etc, but we as a club could do so much more with £5m or more than buy one player - no matter how potentially good he might be.

Birmingham asked for 5m, we've now offered it in some form or other, let's move on. If we want an attacking option, there's other options around and the loan window will re-open in a couple weeks as well.

If Birmingham lose him for cut-price in the future because the player keeps on ignoring their contract extension offers, then that's their fault. Although personally I think if Spurs offered 5m, they'd accept, they just want more to compensate for the 'tinopt' factor of selling to Bournemouth.

I'm sure they said £6m was their price? Ah well. They'd probably accept less from Tottenham given they are not in competition with them, "same league tax".

Apparently we're close to sign Yakubu, can't say i'm too excited with the prospect. Had he not been playing in China the last couple of years and had come straight from the Prem then certainly, but is he any good anymore? Plus striker is a position that although needs a short term fix, also needs a long term solution give the age of our strikers. Not sure bringing a 32 year old in will help.

Heard that Reading are looking at signing Yakubu. Love that guy

Hope not.Good player back in the day though.Would be a typical Reading signing.Somebody cheap whose better days behind them.Reminds me of when we signed Les Ferdinand and Martin Keown.

Sounds like we are signing Jack O'Connell from Blackburn. A 20 year old centre half who has been geting rave reviews on loan at Rochdale. Another young promising player with big potential by the sounds of things, good stuff.

I can see us moving on from Gray, I don't believe the figure of £5 million for a minute, it would be every possible clause being met to get near that figure I imagine. Brum are playing hardball so I think let's leave it there, he looks a sensational prospect but we are the top scorers in the league so it isn't desperation by any means.

If we don't add to our squad then we don't add to our squad, I'd still be looking at another centre back in truth rather than an attacking option.

Well I suppose the sight of Yakubu and Pogrebnyak running at you must be pretty intimidating as long as you've got the time to wait for them to arrive.

Saying that though he would be better than Cox,Blackman and Robson Kanu up front.

We're also linked with Carlton Cole, seems we are his second choice though. He'd rather go to West Brom, but they'll only sign him if they can get rid of Ideye.

Could be a good signing, but I doubt we'll get anyone in tbh. Missed out on a few signings that would have been awesome, but pretty happy with what we have.

I reckon you'd come to regret Cole.

As usual a quiet deadline day expected at Portman Road. Probably a good thing with Mings and Bishop being linked with the big guns.

MM never seemed big on last-minute transfers. Can't see them leaving you in your current position.

Whats the situation with Ritchie AFCB_Mark? When i went too Birmingham-Bournemouth, he completely ran the show, and looked like he was destined for bigger things, could Gray be the replacement for Ritchie if he leaves in the summer? I also saw Gray play a couple of times, and he is very very impressive.

Dorrans and Noone in, Johnson and Lafferty out. That's the latest rumour.

Ritchie has been looked at by bigger clubs and is surely set to play top flight football at some point. He signed a new "long term" contract extension the other week. We know what contracts mean, I would guess that should we not get promoted to the Prem this season - he'd be right at the top of the list of our players in for a big transfer.

In response to Sky and the Birmingham press earlier talking about this £5M bid for Gray, our local press report that the bid was dependent on promotion and that less than half of the money was up front potentially today.

In which case, that a) makes me feel more comfortable, and b) is more understandable as to why it was rejected by Birmingham.

So what would happen if you're not promoted?

Then the full amount wouldn't be paid.
All academic at the moment of course.

But you would keep the player?

No wonder Birmingham have told you where to get off.

It's like any clause in a transfer, quite common. Admittedly only half up front and another half upon promotion is quite an aggressive offer.

Bournemouth contemplating one final higher bid for Gray. Are they serious?

Absurd amount of money!

We've agreed to loan Ince, but it all comes down to whether Hull get someone in first. If that happens, then Calero goes on loan to Burton. I hate deadline day.
