Im excited by this holding mid from Villa. Weve missed an on form Lansbury badly and need the guile and steel a good dedicated DM gives for defence and counter attack
Looks a good signing that, surprised Villa let him out but suppose they have had a change of manager.

Id rather we sell who we did than lose a Morris Eli Campbell Clark Lockyer

Why was Campbell an unused sub last night?
I’ve got an emerging theory that Edwards isn’t a big fan of his. He clearly wants more controlled possession than we previously played under Jones and Campbell is a great player but isn’t that sort of midfield player.

Campbell’s form had been waning for a little bit. He is probably due a little bit of a break, so he may just be being managed rather than anything else… he plays in a real tough role.

Yeah agree, it could also be that. Just interesting that he was rarely if ever rested or rotated under Jones and now he is an unused sub for a key game. He’ll definitely have a role to play Just interesting the little tweaks that have been made and whose thrived (Clark gone up a gear) and who isn’t quite as in the picture

In:
Tom Cannon (Everton, Loan), Liam Delap (Man City, Loan), Josh Onomah (Fulham, free).

Out: Mikey O'Neill (Grimsby, Loan), Sean Maguire (Coventry, Free), Adam O'Reilly (Derry City, Undisclosed).

Happy with the incomings, but not the fact that none of them are contracted beyond this season. No complaints about the outgoings, hopefully O'Neill does well in L2.

I am a little bit baffled by a couple of things - firstly, what is the attraction of Bristol City apart from maybe doubling his wages? He’s going into a side that is fighting relegation.

I’d also argue that we’re taking a gamble on Adebayo and Morris staying fit / not getting suspended… it’s going to be a long 18-21 games over the nest 4 months, and we saw how Elijah broke down towards the end of last season.

Muskwe is not good enough. To be honest, I think I’d have recalled Mendes-Gomes ahead of him. We are now weaker in the forward position than what we were 4 weeks ago.

Defensively, that may have become less of a priority. Hopefully Bradley will get back to fitness in short order, and with the emergence of Bell (I thought he looked great there last night) and Potts in the LCB position, we may actually have some cover now.

Drameh was exceptional when he was on last night, and this is for a guy who has barely played senior football this season. He will get better.

I guess whatever happens, we’re certainly not getting relegated this season so that objective has been achieved - it just feels a real opportunity for someone to get to that promised land, with a lot of teams aside from that top 2 barely pulling up trees between them.
You summed up why Cornick went and also for the same reason Naismith went, they double their money. It is not for any form of ambition but purely they double their wages over the course of the next couple of years. If they were interested in winning something then they would stay as 'consistently' we have been in a positive direction for a while. And definitely agree we should have brought back Mendes Gomez than Muskwe.

We did well there and it surpised most fans as a luxury almost as Eli had been on fire.

I love how we progress. Buy a piece, fit it in, step back look at overall picture then slide in the next piece where needed.
I think it is strongly advised we get Lockyer to sign a new contract and also Potts as he has really stepped up tis year.

I read somewhere he just had a slight niggle so was benched.

Think it's fair to say that Lockyer's one that we won't be pinching off you...
He's been immense for us this season but he has played for your mortal enemy so we respect that.

Sounds like we're very keen on Duane Holmes.

A 28yr old who runs around a lot and offers nothing from a creative point of view. Ace.

Maybe Huddersfield are looking to off load him.

Imagine he's a reasonable earner and they'll need to trim the budget in L1. He's a decent enough player, just not sure he's what we need.

Agree always considered Preston to be a steady Championship club with great facilities. Is he one piece of the jig saw to give Preston that boost? He was decent last term but this current season it may just well be he is considering his options?

We have about 14 senior players contracted for next season, so we just need jigsaw pieces, rather than finding missing ones.

Wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being one our "wing backs"/ wide midfielders if he signed.

PNE, Luton, and Sheff Utd interested in Max Johnston from Motherwell supposedly. Free in the summer. Smells very agent driven.

Scottish Sun is reporting Rangers are going to put in a £3.5m bid for Freddie Woodman. I reckon we only managed to sign him because we inserted a modest release clause.

Say we paid £500k, sell for £3.5m, Newcastle get £600k. That's an easy £2.4m profit and we've had a good keeper for a year.

I'd obviously rather keep him, but if we can attract good players for a year or two, with favourable release clauses, then that's a model I can get on board with. Better than the loan market.

Is he really worth that?
I'd say more. Our defence is wank and he's kept 14 clean sheets. He's the best permanent keeper we've had since Carlo Nash about 17 years ago.

He won the golden glove while playing for Swansea too. At 25/26, there's big scope for improvement as well for a keeper.

Wish wed picked him up for that. Makes 1.5 for Sluga laughable. Seems for several seasons running to be one of the best in this league to me

We want Tom Cannon back on loan next season.

We create fuck all for strikers, so not even sure why he would consider it.

Jordan Clark has signed a contract extension. He’s always been a good little player for us filled in out wide, fullback in his first season, but has really gone up another level over the past 2 seasons when moved centrally and especially this year has in my view been one of if not our best player.

He’s so classy on the ball and has started to really run and dictate games under Edwards. He’s 29 so not one of these youngsters likely to get snapped up by a big club so probably a nice agreement between everyone to keep a good thing going. A brilliant piece of business for free transfer

Supposedly no contract talks with any of the OoC players. No negotiations with DJ is criminal, still one of the best midfielders in the league. 4 loan players going back, and Evans unlikely to play again.

Would leave us with:

2 GK, 1 makeshift RWB, 0 LWBs, 5 CBs, 2 DMs, 2 CMs, 0 AMs, 1 ST.

I think that's with 8 of the above entering their final 12 months this summer.

Only Woodman, Storey, Ledson, McCann, and Riis contracted beyond summer 2024 I think.

Apparently Sonny Bradley announced at an end of season dinner that he will be leaving at the end of the season.

Probably the right move, was never the most athletic but has looked a little less so in some recent performances. Still a good organiser and leader but in the back 3 we play, it really does call for athletic and aggressive centre halves and not sure he fits that bill any longer.

Been great for us overall, outstanding in league 1 and first few seasons at this level, I think will make a League 1 side very happy

No surpise. Initially thought the timing was poor but now think it might add a boost for everyone.

Hes been an exceptional signing, leader and could have gone to bigger and better several times.

He has continually surpised me as we stepped up. Always thought his size and speed were a liability and yet he delivers and compensates. Even this season early when he played i was like oh dear at the thought and he was in general solid, with opposition either not being allowed, or didnt/couldnt, exploit his weaknesses. Odd mistake here and there were getting worse but with a run in th side theyd lessen and not as many as youd expect. Even these last few games he atones for shortcomings more often than not.

Right time. Blessings and huge thanks Skipper. All the very best

Daniel Johnson rumoured to have been spoken to by Celtic, Norwich, and a side in the US.

There's a disgusting rumour about us looking at Max Power on a free from Wigan, another of Ryan Lowe's Scouse/ Wirrall mates. This jobs for the boys shit is becoming a joke, if that one happens. I wouldn't be shocked to see Cole Stockton rock up here either.
