I mean we’re 5th in the league now so it’s not exactly a disaster! Plus last season in League One, I genuinely feel like we would have stayed up had the season continued.

I think we’ve just about got over our National League time. Our finances are very good, there are lots of exciting projects happening at the club and we’ve obviously had a promotion to League One already. If we don’t go up this season then I reckon we’ll be nicely placed to go up next season
Good honest post

Seems like Tranmere are still adjusting to life back in the Football League. Their promotion to L1 might have masked that but they were pretty mediocre in their first season back and late run of form saw them as surprise play-off qualifiers and then winners but they just weren't ready at all to be in L1.
Nah, that is not really true. We had a pretty decent side in League One last season after the January window and would probably have stayed up if the season had not been curtailed. This season we have strengthened further, and have probably our best squad of players for a decade or more, at any level.

We are financially stable and we have got decent players. However, we made a poor managerial appointment last summer, and seem to have followed that up with another poor appointment.

You can be a stable club, but appointing a manager is a lottery in many respects.

Tranmere where ok we have started playing better now though finally thought we deserved it on our second half performance Lot of old heads in there side too many Tranmere fans or valuable experience at this level?

I think that’s a tad harsh tbh. Norwood was an unknown quantity at FL level and proved himself capable, we strengthened second half of the season and at one point were in a sniff of the automatics. Mansfield were the best team in the play-offs but imploded, others little to separate.

L1 was a bridge too far, but agree that with the players brought in January we’d a good chance of staying up. This season recruited well in summer but ever so badly in January. Salary caps probably helped us too.Finances did suffer when we were in the NL and reported failing to get out when we did would have meant major budget cuts.

Next season reckon will not have as strong a squad as this one if we stay in L2 so our prospects would depend on who comes up from NL Think we’d probably hold our own in L1 if able to keep the bulk of the current squad

Not rotated enough. Feeney could have done with a rest, Spearing just back from injury and should have been subbed after his first yellow card. Though Clarke played well and veteran keeper Joe Murphy was probably MoM.

Saturday against Salford is a huge huge game all of a sudden for you guys. A must win for both teams really.

Great goal from Walsall and what a dickhead challenge from Spearing for his second yellow!
That tackle was worthy of a red, worse than the one Luke Joyce was correctly sent off for v Tranmere.

Whereas there was some smart recruiting from Bolton in the transfer window, we screwed up. Can't see us winning again until Vaughan is fully fit, as Hill is reluctant to try different options and players. Salford should have stuck with Wellens, even if they beat us, not sure they'll make the play-offs.

After horrific summer recruitment it was near perfect in January, bar Marcus Maddison. And he was worth a risk based on his past and he clearly has a lot of natural ability. Evatt had full control in January. I’ve never been a fan of a manager not having final say on his signings.

I thought they should have stuck with Wellens too but they were really good half an hour onwards. We should have been out of sight but we were backs to the wall for most of second half and end of first half.

That big lad at the back is fantastic though missed nothing all night and can shift a bit.

Who's this? Big defender who won everything and can shift AND who wants to play nearer London....Never mind. We can't afford him.

On another topic. There's a behind the goal view of our goals v Bradford. The Bradford defend having a temper tantrum at about a minute in did make me smile.
