You will be in the play offs........If Its a draw Saturday you will be in the play offs
Bolton and Morecambe wont lose there last two
If you draw on Saturday, and fail to win either of your last two games, and we win all three of our remaining games, we would finish above you.

Not very likely, but not impossible.

That's a fair assessment of the game.

I think he got our pen right and yours wrong. 100% a pen. We sold our center back to MK Dons in Jan and our no.1 is out for the season but you're right, we really do need to strengthen in those areas next season no matter what league we are in.
Who has been excellent for us in div 1. He must have been awesome with youat div 2 level. He's already attracting interest and I would be sad but wouldn't be surprised to see him move on up.

He wasn’t great for us but I understand you are playing him in a 3 and that suits him better than playing in a 2. I wish him all the best, especially as we have a 20% sell on.

Easy win for Tranmere. We even scored their goal for them.

As for us, God we're shite. Attacking wise we were genuinely clueless and don't score unless the opposition hand it to us on a plate.

Big questions tonight surrounding the managers and their negative football.

That was the same sort of performance as we (didn't) put in against Oldham. I could write a ten thousand word essay on how crap that was.

First things first. That ref was awful. Truly awful. He was winding up both sets of players all night. Obvious fouls not being given and strange decisions on what way throw ons and corners were going. About the only thing he got right all night was the red card. Some of our player's disputed it but straight red all day long. Led with an elbow straight in the defenders face.

Yems put a strange team out tonight. For all his good points having Tony Craig play as a left back is asking for trouble. Especially with James Tilley in front of him (no help there). We had a left back on the bench as well. Only going with ten players (and Wright) was strange but Yems seems to love him. Only having Rodri on the bench as a striker. He was playing the step below conference south before Xmas.

Well played Newport. You can only beat what turns up and you did that comfortably tonight.

Couldn't agree with you more on the ref. Bonkers. The kindest thing I can say is that he was an improvement on the one we had on Saturday...

Suspect we will see you again next season, regardless of whether we reach the play-offs or not. There has been a real improvement in the quality of our football in the last two games (I suspect aligned with the fact that we have a passable amount of grass to play on again) but we are still struggling too much in terms of putting chances away.

Scunthorpe are the worst side I have seen this season, they were useless. We have hardly won a game this season and drawn dozens, however we have beaten Scunthorpe THREE times this season.

Couldn’t really understand why Quigley had a huge chip on his shoulder, at VP he did and gave it the big un on social media after (which he’s getting back after last night!)

Started the game chest out elbows Legge (ref lost the game first minute by not at least booking him for that which caused the rest of it to happen). Ended up getting into grief with lethal Brizzle. Joyce who’s probably the most mild mannered man you’ll meet ends up taking him out and leaning over him Keane style. Really riled up everyone and was pretty awful on the night.

It didn’t work out for him at Vale but he never really got any stick from fans and he moved on. Clearly just had a huge chip on his shoulder.

Recall Tranmere bullying us in February and the transformation in that aspect is back to our best. Legge, Bris and Smudge are big lads at the back and dealt with the aerial bombardment very well, won most things like Saturday and Barrow tried to bully us early doors we just stood up to it and was happy to have that battle.

Referee was dire. If he books Quigley as he should of done first minute then the mess that follows doesn’t happen, ends up booking three players before 8 minutes, never gets control. Books Clarke for shouting “justice!” When the goal goes in. Seemed to let Barrow away with a lot and didn’t send off their lad for the most simple second yellow you will ever see.

Good to see DC buzzing and the confidence sky high, a fifth clean sheet in a row and another club record in sight if we can achieve shut outs the next two games.

Pleased to see as well the three changes and then four further changes in the second half didn’t degrade the performance levels either.

The Conlon goal though was pure unadulterated filth. His one against Yeovil one of the best I’ve seen at Vale but that beats it. The control to set it up. The volley. Stunning.

Well done to Barrow on staying up hopefully visit next season.

Thought we looked a top of the league side second half. Barrow couldn't get near us at times. If only we hadn't gone on that 3 wins in 25 games run....

5 clean sheets in a row is ridiculous after some of the pathetic attempts earlier in the season. We can beat anybody in this league but something was drastically wrong in terms of fitness and tactics before Clarke came along.

Well over 18 games either side of that run when we've had most of our players fit and available we've picked up an incredible 41 points, enough to have won the title at a canter had we kept it up, does anger me that some of them downed tools towards the end of Askey's reign as well. Huge huge missed opportunity but as mentioned would we have set the right football structure up if we hadn't which will benefit us long term?

We will be advocating for a mid season break next year, like those premier league ponces.

The best thing about being shit all season is when relegation happens it doesn’t feel as bad or in the slightest bit surprising.

The feelings of gut wrenching pain happened months ago, now it doesn’t feel like much more than a slight annoyance

So that’s next seasons League Two title decided.
Haha I was just thinking the same, I’ve heard all this before somewhere........
I’ve heard some serious clutching at straws but nothing tops ‘If it wasn’t for those 25 games’

We could all point to ifs and buts but even if we would have had a relatively poor run of say 8 wins in 25, we'd be in the playoffs now.

We know this league. We know it's difficult to get out of. Last time we got promoted we literally crawled over the line. I guess it's more frustration that we know what this fully fit team is capable of, as shown by the last 8 results.

I have no current expectations for next season. As with every season, things have to fall in place and you have to have a bit of luck along the way. I believe that we have an owner and manager who are putting all the right building blocks in place to achieve success.

So that’s next seasons League Two title decided.

Far from it... we need a good summer and to not make the same mistakes again. It was all set up for success this season and didnt happen with the injuries, downing of tools in December etc. I've no doubt this squad had the ability to do it but mentally clearly something wasnt right if they downed tools for Askey like they did.

The new signings have to be right to compliment the ones we have that want to keep.

Having travelled on many occasions to away matches at Cleethorpes, I'm well acquainted with the passion of Grimsby fans. If as seems likely they will be playing in National League next season, Grimsby have the consolation that they will be one of the BIG beasts in that league - as they were last time.
The National League is de facto EFL League 5 but with a few advantages. Grimsby will appear on the TV on more occasions than other clubs in EFL2 plus they will be winning more games than at present.
There are some big games in the offing, be they Stockport, Hartlepool, Halifax, Wrexham, Chesterfield, Notts County and even down to Aldershot or Yeovil. [Okay two of those could be promoted but Southend will be taking one place].
The way Grimsby [and Southend] are ending this season they must both be favourites for an immediate return to the EFL.

We could all write off big parts of our season. We lost our opening 5 games in all competitions. We were 19th/20th in January. Take the first half of the season off and we’d be top by a mile. Carlisle if they hadn’t suffered all the covid issues and wrote that period off could easily be top as they looked like they would walk the league first half of the season. Lots of teams go in and out of form. No excuses. The teams that are there are the teams that have done it the most consistently over 42/43 games. Cambridge are top on merit. Cheltenham could go top on merit. If Morecambe beat us on Saturday they will be top 3 on merit. Not because Port Vale had a poor 20 odd games.

I forgot to mention last night as I was caught up in our own imminent relegation that Morecambe looked like the real deal, fast counter attacking that was just too much for us which was completely different to the previous Morecambe sides coming here that always time wasted from the first minute.
Unbelievable job that Adams has done there, he may come across as a bit of a prick sometimes but you cannot fault what he has built, so I really hope Morecambe go up.

If Mansfield didn’t have a habit of huge individual mistakes and a decent striker, ie if we were good enough I reckon a play-off push was possible :)

I called it after the opening day - ok, not the promotion bit - but it was clear this was a different Morecambe team to recent seasons.

E10rifle was also pretty much on the money about Orient in that thread too.
