Love how the fixture computer has Carlisle at FGR on a Tuesday night! They really need to do something about those kind of fixtures being midweek.

Its done at the request of clubs. They want the longer ones midweek for 2 reasons -

a) it affects away followings less as usually only die hards would travel so far in most cases.

b) Cuts down on overnight stays, if a Saturday teams usually overnight at that distance whereas a Tuesday night they don't have to.

So strange as it sounds its wanted by the clubs to be that way.

Yep. Not sure why there has to be so many Tuesday night games anyway. Why does the season finish in April?

Wembley hosting the Euro 2020 games so have to get the Play offs done earlier to sort the pitch etc.

I certainly wasn't aware of this - thanks for that vf.

Meh. Should just have had them in Cardiff then.

Happens every time theres a CL final too there! Seems more Tuesday league games this season trying to fit it all in.

This comes up every time we have a Tuesday night game as it's by design that the longer trips are on Tuesday nights. It's better for the squad as they can set off at a reasonable time in the morning and have time to unwind and train once they arrive; it affects fewer fans compared to say if they put our game at Morecambe or Oldham on a Tuesday night (which could see a couple hundred drop off our travelling numbers) and subsequently it has less financial impact for the club who aren't seeing a potentially big attendance get cut in half.

EDIT: should have read the full thread before repeating Valefan16's reply

Indeed. Our three ‘Tuesday fixture partners’ are Crewe, Mansfield and Plymouth.

Remember them well, fond memories.
I believe the saying is "those who live in glass houses should not throw stones". Mansfield cloggers have consistently been the most ill-disciplined team in the EFL. Once again I see that you are bottom of the Fairplay table, just like most of the previous seasons since 13/14.

Newport losing in the playoff final was one of the more enjoyable games of football I’ve watched in sometime, kept some footballing sanity in place.

Can't accommodate them all, last year we went Carlisle and Yeovil for example on Tuesday nights, and I've done Crawley on a Tuesday before!

This year there are 39 weekends in the season. Take out FACup 1st and 2nd rounds that leaves 37 (35 Saturdays plus Sun 29th Dec and Good Friday). Add in the bank holidays, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day, and Easter Monday and it still leaves six midweek games to pull in.

I am sure in some seasons when Christmas and new year has fallen at weekends, we have had to pull in eight mid week fixtures.

In some years if the Weather has been pants it can be a lot more!

Nothing will beat our final 10 days of the 2001 season after winning the LDV Trophy.

Thursday Night - Northampton A
Saturday - Notts County H
Monday Night - Bristol Rovers A
Tuesday Night - Oxford A
Thursday Night - Walsall H
Saturday - Luton A

6 games in 10 days and Jurgen Klopp moans!

Makes the Prem moaners look even more stupid doesnt it!
Yep, we used to play eight games in a week back in the day, we'd be glad of an evening off training once a week to see us families/mistresses. Our captain once had to play three games in a single day with a broken leg and shingles and that didn't stop him lunging in two footed on the opposition with no thought for his, or their safety, before match had even kicked off.

Back then you couldn't make substitutions, if a striker went up for the ball with his elbows first and cut your head clean open and you went down the referee would give a penalty against and book you for being a pansy, you'd be expected to play on with only a bandage to keep your brain in. They wouldn't even stop the game for physio to put bandage on, you'd be expected to carry the physio on your back while he bandaged you up and you kept on playing.

The only rest our players got was at half time when they could sit down for a smoke, a pie and a pint before starting all over again; and that was only if you were winning, if you were losing manager would make you walk over hot coals barefoot while he fired at you with a crossbow for morale.

I tell you, players today live a life of absolute luxury.

When Jurgen Klopp says that the FA Cup should be started earlier in the season to ease the fixture congestion: He thought that it begun in November at the First Round...:ffs:

Trying to Bundesliga it! The Germans play smaller team has home advantage and the first round is usually the first game of the season.

They were fucking garbage in that away win as well. We absolutely battered them apart from a mad three minutes where the defence went AWOL and we let Ollie Palmer score two tap-ins. Anyhoo, you best win as I’ve got you in the last team standing thing.
Wow,what does that make your lot then!
It was like taking candy from a baby, easiest 3 points all season

Well this came out of left field -

We've signed Leicester and Zimbabwe international striker Admiral Muskwe on loan.

Ineligible to play tonight. I meant to put this in the transfers thread! Doh!

Can't see Crawley getting anything in Plymouth...maybe crabs.

As much as I think Yems has started well there is a but if a gulf in class in the players (overall). Plymouth going for promotion us going for mid table. Plus our away record is atrocious. It compares to Wind Beneath My Wings it's so bad.

I still think we shall show some fight and maybe get a goal but I'd out my money on the Green Machine.

I fear a narrow defeat at Colchester tonight. They are on a long unbeaten run and seem to have our number at the moment.

Going for 1-0 and surely one of either Robinson or Norris are likely to score - they also have bloody Nouble who was crap for us on loan many years ago so surely one of them is likely to cause us grief!

Nouble went off injured against Bradford last Tuesday and missed the trip to Exeter at the weekend, so not sure if he'll be fit tonight.

Does this mean that poor old Mrs Doyle seem destined to remain marooned on the Yorkshire equivalent of Craggy Island until at least the summer?

Just keep away from Millbay. Fair play to those who make their way down here tonight. Wrap up warm, it’s taters out there.

There's a coach load and I think they're staying overnight.

Ten o'clock finish. Five hours drive back. Not many doing that on a school night.

Shame really as Ive always wanted to go to home park.
