I have 3 Mazzy Star cd's but the thing is I only listen to their 1st and 2nd albums all the way through, as I was always under the impression the 3rd one wasn't as good and only had a couple of really good tracks. It seems I was wrong as while I was moving my cd stash from one place to another, 'Among My Swan' popped up and Now I can't stop listening. It's as strong as their first couple albums.

These 3 particular tracks are way excellent imo -

I've been a fan of Chelsea Wolfe ever since she released her 2nd album Apokalypsis, well technically the 3rd but she disowns the 1st one(Mistake in Parting). I'm not a big fan of her first proper album The Grime and the Glow as the songs are essentially demos recorded in her own room I think. But her output since then has been outstanding, and every album she releases sounds different than it's predecessor. The aforementioned Apokalypsis, Unknown Rooms, Pain is Beauty and Abyss, the latest one, are all exceptional, and have all made my personal Top 10 albums of the year lists.

It took me quite a long time to fully get into Abyss, but I've finally got it and literally can't stop listening. So many great tracks on it, and a very varied album to boot, which is perhaps the best thing about it.

Killing Joke's new album is amazing. I didn't really enjoy the 2 albums prior to this one, but this one is a welcome return to form. Excellent album all round.

Still got some vinyl from first time round plus must be 12 or 15 CDs that are regulars in the car. Only saw him once but he's a God.

Found myself a Rory G. LP, Calling Card, for 50p (iirc) a few months back but only got round to cleaning it this afternoon. Quite amazing what a good deep wash does to the grooves! It's not exactly my style but I am actually enjoying it :cool1:

Is this album considered one of his best or not, and if it's not, which albums do you recommend Alan?

I don't normally go for Live albums but Live in Europe is probably top of my list - possibly because it was my first, bought in 1972. Irish Tour (1974) is probably even better. Calling Card is probably up there (definitely top 5) but Tattoo gets more plays by me.

The thing about Rory is that he produced music for most moods. There are the foot stompers, like Goin' to My Hometown and Bullfrog Blues, but here are also great acoustic blues and classic 70s rock ballads as well as his virtuoso electric and acoustic guitar (and mandolin). Look out for Wheels within Wheels for an eclectic mix.

This cover of Gloria Jones' Tainted Love done in the style of 1920's Weimar Germany.

I can't tell if it's absolutely batshit mental or oddly likeable, there's a Je ne sais quoi about it. Sounds like something that'd be on the soundtrack from Bioshock.

Last album purchased was the new ELO one. Had a couple of listens and I really like it. A lot more mellow than their older stuff.

Been listening to a lot of Blur lately.

My favourite is still Coffee and TV but I've grown more on Girls and Boys and Country house.

The Notorious Byrd brothers by The Byrds. Classic and a hugely influential album.

Old John Robertson was/is classic Byrds. However, sound quality on these Youtube offerings just doesn't hit the spot.

Yeah I know, nothing beats analogue. I have this album on vinyl - although I don't have the op, mine's an Edsel reissue ( late 80's/early 90's I think), but at least the reissues from that era were just that, simple reissues and not remasters with boosted highs/lows and compression galore.

Not a big fan of Suzanne Vega, only have some three albums of hers (two of which I'd only played the one time I think) but I really like '99.9F', when she changed her style from soppy folksy pop to a more alternative folksy pop one. If that makes any sense :conf: A solid 8/10 album, and that's saying something as I don't like to go overboard with my ratings when I'm discussing movies and music.

This track is simply brilliant -

And these are the two tracks I first heard off the album, which made me go out and buy it. But I certainly didn't expect the rest of the album to be as strong, which was a pleasant surprise.
