I'm 27 tomorrow and have been half-pressured into going out to celebrate. I was kind of thinking i'm 27 and can't really be fucked with the effort of clubbing and would rather a big old piss up in pubs or at home. I'm wondering if that's due to age or just that I find it a bit shit now. The music is normally shite and you waste a load of money etc.

Just wondering what your thoughts are on clubbing and how old is too old?

Depends really. I would say you're never to old to go clubbing and I regularly go to nights with a couple on their 40's. Its not uncommon to see people older than that either and I will be out well until my 60's hopefully if there is a scene still.

Saying that I suppose the nights are quite different what sort of club are you going too? If its just a normal night on the piss in a town centre club then you're still not to old but I can see why you wouldn't want to go.

Yeah it's town centre, mainly shite charty stuff which isn't really my thing. I'd prefer a good drum and bass night or something but meh. It'll be alright once pissed and that but I just wandered (worried!) that i'm getting old and can't be arsed anymore.

I'm 21 and I hate clubbing. Much prefer a pub. The music is always shite, it's full of morons who can't handle a skinful. Every other month I'll end up in one, usually after a good night and I don't want to go home or when I'm away for the Weekend, but It's very rare I end up going in one on a normal night out. Mind you, I prefer going out all day to Night anyway so the clubs aren't usually open!

I don't think you're to old just bored shitless. Find a night with good music and you'll probably enjoy it more.

Saying that do what you want not what your friends want. You're to old to do things you don't want to really do. :)

True, but I think if we're all into it it'll be a better night. Besides, I drag them along to Global and used to drag them to NASS festival to get my DNB fix so swings and roundabouts i guess?

I'm in the 'hate clubbing' group. Was alright when I first turned 18 in August, but got to the point in Freshers where I thought sod it and went to the pub with a mate instead. Also managed to persuade flatmates to come on Pub Crawls a couple of times. Can count on one hand the genuinely enjoyable nights I've had in clubs.

Thankfully a number of mate have also grown tired of the same clubs over and over, deciding to do Pub Crawls recently. In a city like Nottingham it annoys me when people stick purely to Ocean/Oceana/Forum with some of the pubs on offer.

Saying that, Salutation Inn was nothing like I expected it to be...

Nottingham is rough for clubbing. Only went the once mind you but ended up in some right dives. Ones was Foxes i think?

And it might have been Oceana where 3 people were stabbed there the weekend before we went up.

I have genuinely never heard of Foxes. Nirvana is the biggest dive I've had the 'pleasure' of visiting up there. They have beds all around the dancefloor to add an element of class...

Fuck that!

Foxes wasn't a particularly big club tbf. Music was shit, and the fanny was ancient so we soon fucked off.

I've never been one for clubbing, I've always much preferred a few drinks in the local with a group of mates.

Unless we're talking about beating the shit out of baby seals.

27 now, and I haven't been clubbing regularly for a few years. Used to enjoy it, but now every time I do occasionally end up in a club I regret it. Drink prices are ridiculous, music usually terrible, and I find them a little claustrophobic now as well for some reason. Just not my scene anymore. 5 pints down the pub with my mates is much more like it.

I'm pretty much in the Charlie Brooker camp when it comes to clubs. There are no good clubs in Belfast when it comes to the type of music played, so you have to put up with commercial garbage. And yeah, these types of clubs are full of vacuous, insipid, self-involved tosspots. I've been to an underground rave or two, they were fun.

I've had some enjoyable club nights, but to be honest, I was on drugs for most of them and I'm passed that point in my life now. I can't imagine stepping into a standard nightclub again expecting to enjoy myself and I'm getting old enough (just turned 25) to be able to simply refuse when my friends persist on asking.

It's your birthday, do whatever the fuck you want to do.

Ha, this is exactly me. I went out over Christmas and my god is was horrible. Last year I did a lot of house/DNB/techno nights associated with Warehouse project and they were always fun but I've decided that I've had enough of that scene and drug taking. This year I'm determined to go out less and save up to do something useful now I'm nearly 25 (March).

Maybe I'm just having a quarter life crises tho

As others have said, I've always been one to go for a pint and talk to mates rather than go clubbing.

Just go for it Mase as a one off. As long as you're not doing any self conscious grandad dancing and enjoy it then why not. I used to go clubbing pretty much every weekend in Birmingham until I was 22 but gradually went less and less. Happens to everyone I reckon. I would still go on occasion and i've hit the thirties now. Definitely not an age limit on it but just how you feel about it. There is a bloke in the town where I'm from who must be in his early 50's. Admittedly he is probably tripping his face off but he absolutely dominates the dancefloor when he goes for it. He has had me an Rad in stitches......not from a piss take perspective but this guy has got some genuine moves!!

Yeah... 5 pints and a couple of shorts and I'm comatose for the next 36 hours. #lightweight

At least you don't spend too much then, going out can cost me a small fortune at times :/

27 is no age. I still go clubbing now with my Uni mates who are all 6 years younger than me.

You'll know when you're told because the women will stop flocking around.

In theory you're never too old.

It's seldom rare that I'm out clubbing these days, I much prefer to have a chat with a group of mates in the local pub or get drunk round a friends house. I was out in Tunbridge Wells for a friends 23rd birthday just before Christmas and all I could think of is 'well this is shite.'

"back in the day" - one of the cheaper pub/bar places in Bournemouth did a Friday night promotion of bottles of beer for £1. If there was 5 of us say, the round was a convenient fiver. Spend a few hours endlessly necking bottles which were instantly replenished, maybe chip in for a few juagers or whatever it's called, and then stumble into a whatever highly expensive and pretentious Bournemouth club without the need to buy any more drink for the night unless of course it was for the purposes of attempting to pull.

Good times.

Similar to Luton that, used to be a bar called "The Park" which did £1 pints on Thursday nights and there was normally five of us there. See a few pints off in there before going to Liquid (3 for 1) or Chicagos (£12 free bar). Without pre-drinking you could get seriously drunk for under £20.

You're only 3/4 years older than me but that post makes you sound really really old haha.

Used to be a few in Wigan like that, always seems to be the absolute worst places though, so you go in thinking you've got a bargain, only desperately wanting to leave halfway through your first drink! My dilemma with clubs in Wigan is that we have 2 good rock clubs (one of which does 10 drinks for a tenner!), but my friends who like rock music never go out anymore, and while I can tolerate a little bit of the commercial ones in the right company, all the semi decent commercial types ones have shut and gone to shit.

We also have a very odd age range of clubbers in Wigan. Early 20s to mid 30s, and you feel very much out of place. Because it seems everyone else you see out are either teenagers, or people old enough to be your parents.

I'm 20 too and I hate going to clubs. The only time it's good is when you go to a big city with your mates but going out in Preston or Blackpool is just absolutely shite. Preston especially, there is about 1 good place in Preston and that's only good if you like a certain type of music!
