Where exactly do you think Carlisle is on the map? It doesn't take 48 hours to drive back from Stevenage.

Tuesday night play a game of football, coach home, day off Wednesday, then training Thursday and Friday. Pretty bog standard preparation. With the continued rhythm of games we also don't have to train as intensively to keep our fitness up. I believe that we have the squad depth to handle it, we also may not handle it, that's to be seen.

I understand your point, however I think that your point is based on a weak mentality that plagues modern football. Promotion challengers should not allow such thoughts to enter their heads. Thankfully Chris Beech is already on record as saying that he can't wait to get stuck into all the remaining games and no excuses will be made about "fixture congestion".

If we can't face up to a Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday schedule then our players don't deserve to call themselves professional athletes.
We won't be able to face up to a Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday schedule every time against teams who don't have such fixture congestion though. We will lose games that we might otherwise have got something from.

How do you know that? Nobody knows that until the games have been played.

It's a poor attitude that is both negative and defeatist.

It's the same as that rubbish about cup runs getting in the way of league form.

Some of the most successful Carlisle United teams in my time supporting have been based around strong cup runs. It's the same principle as we're faced with now. A winning team wants to play football.

Player tiredness is a myth created by premier league clubs to help them justify large squads, in turn allowing them to play weakened sides in cup competitions that they'd rather be out of.

Try telling players like Dean Walling, David Reeves, Danny Livesey and Kevin Gray that they couldn't cope with the amount of games a good cup run brings. They'd have laughed in your face in the same way that Arron Hayden and Callum Guy would laugh in your face.

If we fail to win promotion the only reason will be because we weren't good enough to win promotion.

Are you taking HG's place until we win again?

Absolutely not

He said he's not posting on here until we win again and that's probably for the best because I don't think anyone can be arsed with his pessimism.

However you're sounding more and more like him and it wasn't long ago you were proper optimistic.

That’s a fair point re cup runs, when we were promoted from here in 2013 the PO final was our 64th game of the season.

Think the season Lincoln came up from the NL, they'd had a good run in the FA Cup and also the FA Trophy and we thought they might come unstuck with the number of games they had to play. It didn't and they won the title. However, think they were fairly lucky with avoiding injuries.

I'm finding it difficult to imagine us celebrating promotion at the end of the season. Just the poor run we're on, seems a million miles away from where we were.

I suspect this kendal fellow might be HG, having a bit of fun seeing what it's like to be optimistic for a change.

We could still do it, but Beech really needs to make some obvious changes to the team and that Zanzala has looked shit everytime he's came on, could be a bad signing.

Also what has happened to our Championship level defender Bennett?
Lately he's looked more conference level!

I think clubs are massively underestimating us who have had 3 games postponed as of late. Grimsby, Barrow and Harrogate. That's 7 points, minimum.

Operation 82 points.

Games left: 20
Win: 12
Draw: 3
Lose: 5

While that win needed ratio stays below 70% there's no need to panic.

my choices change week on week.......good result for you tonight, may change prediction again come Saturday.

At a stage now where i am not bothered about any team in this league.
I can at last see my club starting to improve week on week ....Come may we will be either out of this league or Evatt will have the core of a good team unlike last summer

Quite remarkable really and makes you wonder quite what McCall was playing at.

Bradford the team I'm most worried about us playing atm. Should be a good game on the 6th March

I mean fair play. Carlisle have already won the league so it's just the top 6 we are sorting, right?
Thought you'd be back to remind me that I made the outrageously arrogant claim that we had a good chance of automatic promotion. Well don't I look silly now. Egg all over my face

He reserved £300k+ to spend in January - we was way under the salary cap at the end of the summer window. Everyone could see that our squad was wafer thin, lacking quality in key areas. His stubbornness meant that he continued to play players out of position - unwilling to drop players that needed dropping. The squad, what was left of it, completely lost faith in him. In his defence, he had a torrid time with injuries, but you make best use of what you’ve got - he didn’t.

That, is the long and short of it.

You were one of the least knobish of the Carlisle fans when you were top, but one of the first to defend their knobish behaviour.

This was aimed at them, not you. As were my last few posts I made that you jumped on.

Would have been 7 minimum if you played them when meant to in middle of season, now playing them at the end when they are fighting for every point to avoid going down is usually when the upsets happen and the bottom clubs pick up points.

Updated stat breakdown

Current Table (max points achieveable)

Cambridge 52 (97)
FGR 51 (105)
Cheltenham 50 (103)
----------
Morecombe 49 (97)
Tranmere 48 (99)
Exeter 46 (101)
Salford 45 (96)
----------
Newport 44 (98)
Bolton 44 (92)
Carlisle 43 (103)
Bradford 40 (94)

PPG Table

FGR 84
Cheltenham 79
Cambridge 77
----------
Tranmere 76
Exeter 76
Carlisle 76
Morecombe 75
----------
Newport 72
Salford 71
Bradford 66
Bolton 63

PPG Table based on last 10 games form
Example Tranmere 48 points from 29 games.
21 points in last 10 so 2.1 x 27 (last 10 games + 17 remaining games) + 27 (points from 1st 19 games) = 83.7 points

Tranmere 84
FGR 80
Cheltenham 79
----------
Cambridge 79
Bradford 77
Exeter 75
Morecombe 73
----------
Bolton 70
Carlisle 68
Salford 65
Newport 57

The 10 game form PPG table offers a decent insight in to how things may pan out as it factors in how teams are performing after the transfer window and had poor starts (Tranmere, Bolton, Bradford) or overpowered starts to the season but are now on the slide (Newport and Carlisle even?).

After I'd done the calculations again last night I lumped on Tranmere at 20-1 at 365 as it seems ridiculous value compared to the other teams prices to win the league. I was also suprised that Morecombe are still managing to cling to a play off slot so fair play to their resiliance, while Carlisle's break seems to be coming back to haunt them. FGR remain top 3 in all 3 tables. I would also say that of the leftfield top 7 choices Crawley, Orient and Mansfield are now completely off radar
