JEEZ !!!

We Won against Norway !!
2-1
There is some 'guts' amongst the Lionesses. No Hope Powell collapse. Perhaps it's bringing back in her "bomb squad' and having no cliques anymore?

I'm worried about our "glamour manager"..but he seems to have luck.
Lousy tactics against France, but he had the strength to change his approach ~ so good.

But I still think he's a dick, and the Women are head and shoulders above him.:bg:

Yeah, I'll eat the humble pie there. The subs worked out perfectly. We were poor until going behind and then we started to show some guts and outbattled Norway. I hope we apply the same sort of bravery and no fear over the whole game against the Canadians. They're definitely beatable. Just, no inferiority complex please.

We beat Canada 1-0 in the Cyprus Cup, in March in a small Tournament.
We lost 1-0 to Canada in a Friendly in May.

They are beatable...and drawable :bg:

And we've been practising penalties :eyes:

Gooooooooal Alex Morgan <3
Should have let her take penalty before Wambach took it and missed it!
Edit:
Thankfully Wambach didn't take the second penalty. USA 2-0 Colombia!

Johnson has been the best player at this tournament. She's Gerard Pique with a less punchable face.

The athleticism of the USA defense and goalkeeper is too strong compared to the competition. Thet are very difficult to break down. However, they are playing a very one-dimensional attack which doesn't create much apart from hopeful crosses. Boring, but efficient. I think they'll ultimately win the tournament. Morgan, Wambach, and Rapinoe, with Leroux off the bench, is too much individual quality to not sneak a goal and their defense is the best at the tournament.

Easy win for the US today. Hope Solo didn't have to make a single save. Holiday and Rapinoe will be missed in the next match against China. But then again, China aren't good enough for the US.

I've only just seen the England result and i'm very surprised i must admit. I wonder how far they can actually go now.

Gonna have to go with the general consensus there as I thought England wouldn't reply to Norway's opener. A very disappointing goal to concede and one the goalie would be fuming about as she had a good game up until then. I'm not sure if it's the heat but Norway lacked presence in attack overall. Aside from a weak Bronze backpass in the first half, they only created one chance through good passing so I probably overrated their strengths going forward.
England looked completely toothless pretty much till the equalising goal but still created very little after that. It's not a big surprise that they scored from a set-piece and a long-ranger but they all count. I still reckon they aren't anything special going forward but the defending, the fighting and the spirit can make them go very far. I wouldn't be surprised if they got past Canada with less hassle than last night.
Also, first KO stage win ever for England. Well done!

Agree with that mistermagic.

That's tournament football though isn't it? Italia 90 is remembered as a great tournament for England but they were dire (along with everyone else in their group). Snuck past Belgium and Cameroon before their semi final exit. They deserved to do it, because they did it. Similarly with this England side, I reckon they can get quite far.

Looking forward to the weekend's games now.

I'm very happy with the two round of 16 matches I've seen so far. Australia and England both won. I would love to see an Australia vs England semi final with either team going on to win overall. Hopefully either will win the whole tournament.

Thoroughly enjoyed the second half last night.

Stephanie Houghton had a fantastic game not even including her goal.

Pressure will be on Canada as hosts and we will want revenge for 2012.

Japan play some great football. Well deserved lead against the Netherlands going into the half time.

What a second goal by Japan! Must be the goal of the tournament so far.
Deserved 2-1 win over the Netherlands. Could have scored more easily.

I'm yet to see Japan play but reckon the winner of Germany/France will win the whole thing.

Japan's second goal was well worked and well taken and I was impressed to see the whole move pay off when I saw it live. I'm not overly confident about the quarter finals for Australia. Hopefully Japan's approach is similar to their Asian cup approach. Well and truly beat the weaker teams but not have the bottle to win in extra time or on penalties.

I'm looking forward to the game tonight. It should be a quality game between two very good teams.

Shame they then have to probably play USA as well.

I think Japan will come through from the other side.

Necib misses a MASSIVE chance for France in the first couple of minutes.

A very positive start by the French and they should really be winning, but for that bad miss after the first few mins.

France are miles better. They play some good football. Not sure what Germany are all about yet, they just seem kinda nothingy.

France are asking for it here. What are they doing?! Comfortably the better side, panicking over a 1-0 lead. They should be trying to put it to bed at the other end, Germany have been crap.

Mind you, her arm's out in a bit of an unnatural position.

Edit: Actually scrap that, it's at the side of her body. How can that be unnatural!?

Anyway, shit. Stupid France.
