I used to like Wrexham, and wanted them to go up, but changed my mind. Read any football forum on the web and you'll see the way a large number of their fans still feel. I see them as the biggest moaners.

Can't really be sure about Rovers because they were only relegated from the League on the last day, in an unfortunate manner. Then they also spent only one season in the connie so there's wasn't enough time to judge them.
To be fair the majority of our fans accepted we were there on merit, and embraced it as an adventure, however if we were still in the conference what the attitude would be now is anyone's guess. It was fun, great to see new places, friendly fans and homely clubs mixed with enough ex league clubs to counter the shock. However so glad we escaped at the first attempt

I too would not like to see either York or D&R go down, there are a few other clubs that I would not miss if they went, but at the beginning of the season I put a thread on asking who you would like to come up, mine was FGR, as I would like to see some of the clubs that have never been a league club have a go at it.

In that case can we have Dover, the thought of the vegan Hobbits of Middle earth in the league is a step to far surely.......

Of the clubs with a realistic chance of coming up, I'd like to see Tranmere back, it would be nice to see someone who's never been in the league before get a go, but of those who could achieve that, they're all far too southern, I mean Dover... come the fuck on! How many fans would they bring to Carlisle, we might as well put out a trestle table with sandwiches for them.

Would have quite liked Gateshead up but they seem to have dropped out of contention now barring a huge turnaround.

I was having this discussion recently amongst my group of mates, about how well Dover or Braintree would do if they got promoted.

Braintree's ground I'm not sure is even league standard - Their board room and club offices are two portacabins and the only set of toilets in the ground, are in the club house behind one of the goals and even those are tiny. They'd have to erect some temporary seating somewhere.

Their pitch gets into a huge state over the winter months, they've had god knows how many games called off this season and in previous seasons leaving them with a nice home fixture pile up.

They would easily be the smallest ever club to be promoted to the Football League, they only get crowds of around 700 and thats on a decent day. Their away followings are worse than Morecambes in terms of long distance.

I've watched us play there twice in friendly matches and if they did go up, it would one hell of a local game for us, we have a good number of O's fans in that area.

They're still currently part time as well, god knows if they'd go full time if they got promoted...........

Also the train service to and from Braintree is a bit of a pig, there is only one line that goes there (literally one track) and its one train to and from London every 30mins. The town itself is ok, but very quiet.

Dover I reckon would be lower mid table, the Crabble is a good old fashioned ground - Not actually in Dover. They travel well locally, but not very well long distance.

If Braintree come up then Carlisle v Braintree could be a contender for lowest away attendance of the season, they should put it on a Tuesday night just to see how low an attendance they can get. Have to look see how many they took to Barrow and Gateshead.

There were some other toilets in portacabins next to the main stand the last time I went to Braintree!

They brought 24 hardy souls to Rovers on a cold January night, could of shared two mini buses!

Mind you I don't think they'll make the play-offs, they've lost their last 3 and appear to find negotiating their backlog of fixtures too much for them.

Yeah but Dover seem to be lasting the pace. Them or Forest Green would give everyone an interesting away day...

I've been to Braintree a few times and it really is as bad as has been said. One time I sat in their main stand for a Tuesday night game (presumably rearranged due to an earlier postponement) and it lashed it down with rain which made the pitch a swamp. But the best bit was that the seats in the row in front of me had started to come away from the concrete they'd been bolted to.

I think they've got planning permission to move though? I remember it being talked about when we were there last.

I want Wrexham to come up. Got mates from there so I know the shit they've been through and they're generally doing a good job of getting their club back into reasonable shape plus it's fan owned so no sugar daddy money. Grimsby would be fine too. Can't comment on Dover but certainly don't want FGR up.

It looked like there were short of 50 but possibly more than 40 at Holker Street on Tuesday night (haven't seen any figures from the anoraks/experts). I'm not sure how many travelled fruitlessly (or were lost drowned on the A590) for the postponed fixture in February They'd probably do at least that with the novelty of Brunton Park and the Stanwix Tandoori to attract them.

You're obsessed with Stanwix tandoori. I went to Bari for a curry after the Wycombe game, recommend that. Had a Llama Dansak.

r.e Braintree - iron4ever or Iron_adam linked to a couple of articles a few weeks back from their Chairman outlining what would happen.

In short, it was something like a £500k job to get it up to scratch but would have grants and FL money to make it happen.

We spent 9 years down there and very few of us U's fans moaned about the sugar daddy clubs. Likewise, the Tranmere fans, who to their credit have also accepted that they're a non lge side for a reason, and this after less than a year since they went down. Luton fans also accepted this fact after a few years playing nl footy, and Grimsby fans have also started seeing things differently. Which is the way it should be.
Were there that many in your time, though? It's certainly something that's getting more and more common.

How much longer will the FGR owner keep chucking money at it if they don't go up this season?

The only slim hope we have is that if we somehow win the next two against out of form Luton and Orient, we'd be on 34 points with Stevenage having to play Newport in their next game.

I'm clutching though. We're 99% gone.

One that Flinders could have pushed away , Wycombe had a keeper that kept them in it and got them a point

It's pretty irrelevant whose mistake is was, for two years we've found new and adventurous ways to concede goals after 85 minutes. We're abysmal and need to be relegate ASAP, our matches are totally pointless at this stage (well.... its not pointless for who we face, they get a nice few points guaranteed).

It was horrible when Bristol went down (thankfully they've came straight back up) it's not an enjoyable thing to witness if you don't hate the other club

All sides would be welcome afaic. While Grimsby would be my preference mainly because of their excellent travelling support, if they don't come up then I'd rather see one of the smaller sides coming up than an ex league side whose fans haven't yet come to terms that football is played on a pitch and club size/history means f.a.

Anyway, the ex league clubs with 3 or 4 times the support of the sugar daddy type clubs can easily compete for the better players and promotion. If they aren't then that usually means either their club is badly run or their BOD is taking them for a ride. Unless, of course, they don't really want to get promoted for a variety of reasons, with the most common ones being home crowds will drop off or the club prefers challenging at the top end of the Conf than just being a bottom 4 L2 side.

I thought before Bristol and then Cheltenham (if they do come up) you had to be down there for a while, adapt and accept you were non-league. We fought it for a few seasons then got wise to what we needed to do to get promoted - basically we bullied our way back up.

That both clubs - if Cheltenham come up - do it straight away it's an excellent achievement that bucks the trend.

Cheltenham aren't a massive club and did it - so there's no reason York can't do it again. I'd be surprised to see Dagenham in the league again

The York-Stags rivalry, which has developed over the last few years, has been one of the highlights of recent seasons. Toing and froing fortunes and an edge without any real nastiness - them calling us scabs and our town a shitehole and us generally agreeing and then enjoying our return visits.

A shame really, as a visit to that wonderful city is a highlight of every season. I hope that they bounce back first time of asking and the locking of swords won't have a long absence.
