Young left-back, got him from Reading last summer. Been very good for us though don't think he'd be ready to start in League 1. Not sure if there's any truth to the rumour at all, just seen it mentioned on Twitter and our forum.

Well we have released a left sided player today, although the majority of us think he should've stayed. Puts us down to only one left back so I guess we might go and get someone in as a backup.

Craig King

Current Squad (assuming contracts accepted)
Elliot Justham
Craig King
Liam Gooch (Youth team graduate)

Stephen O'Donnell
James Justin (Youth team graduate)
Dan Potts
Frankie Musonda (Youth team graduate)
Scott Cuthbert

Olly Lee
Jonathan Smith
Nathan Doyle

Pelly Ruddock-Mpanzu
Danny Green
Paddy McCourt
Tyreeq Bakinson (Youth team graduate)

Craig Mackail-Smith
Jack Marriott

Zane Banton
Alex Atkinson (Youth team graduate)

No massive surprises. I'd have liked to see Lawless stay over Elliot Lee, Smith or Doyle. Howells has made 334 appearances for us but is limited as both a winger and left back. Might have seen Galliford and Trotman given another year as they are only a yer out of the youth team.
Glad Okuonghae and O'Brien are listed. They've both been awful

Fancy a bit of Alex Lawless.
In two minds about this one - I think with our budget we can do better and he hadn't really contributed enough this season to warrant a new deal. Hardworking and passionate; think he'd be a good enough squad player for most sides at this level. I'd be surprised if he had to drop to non league. When he signed a new deal 2 years ago, he turned down League 1 offers.

To add to other Cambridge fans' responses (all of whom I agree with)....

The last game Donaldson played excellent in was Luton in the cup last season. He played well against Man Utd afterwards but aside from that he went missing and his lack form coincided perfectly with our collapse at the end of last season and beginning of this.

I hope he gets another contract somewhere else and I wish him all the best elsewhere. Will always be regarded as a legend for "that" season and "that" goal at Wembley.

I'm an LDV fan but I understand why he's been released. Couldn't be happier to see the back of Haber, Atkinson and Fox. I would have liked to have seen more of Andre Brown always impressed me when playing for the youth team but maybe he just didn't progress.

it's just a shame were stuck with the same rubbish in defence for the foreseeable future.

Feel the right decisions have been made with ours. Howells and Lawless the "contentious" ones but despite playing well over 300 games Howells has never truly been a first name on the team sheet type player and never nailed down a position as his own. Lawless showed on Saturday that he still has a bit of class about him though and I'm sad he is going but we need to start looking for better.

I would have liked Smith on that transfer listed players though, we're still fairly bloated with central midfield players given that I think we will be adding there in the summer and Bakinson showed in a 15 minute cameo more ability on the ball than Smith has all season.

Going to put all of our out of contract players and contracted players in this thread - Last year we had no manager around this time and 12 months on, we are no different.

We didn't put up any retained or released list last year, we just reported when our players had been signed by other clubs - By the time Ian Hendon was appointed in mid June, all of our out of contract players had virtually been reported as gone. But it was all reported one at a time, we heard literally nothing other than the odd report off "[Insert Name Here] has signed for [Insert Club here]". Even when Ian Hendon arrived we still heard nothing.

In short, ALL of our out of contract players are expected to leave due to the poor way the club has been run in the last 2 years.

Out of Contract this summer - ALL EXPECTED TO LEAVE:
Mathieu Baudry
Connor Essam
Lloyd James
Jobi McAnuff
Blair Turgott
Frazer Shaw
Scott Kashket
Bradley Pritchard
Nicky Hunt

Players Under Contract for Next Season:
Alex Cisak
Charlie Grainger
Alan Dunne
Sean Clohessy
Dean Cox
Sammy Moore
Nigel Atangana
Ollie Palmer
Paul McCallum
Armand Gnanduillet
Jay Simpson
Kevin Nolan (Has two more years - But we all know he will 100% move on)
Sam Sargeant - (Youngster)
Aron Pollock - (Youngster)
Sandro Semedo - (Youngster)
Freddy Moncur - (Youngster)
Victor Adeboyejo - (Youngster)

All loan players returned to parent clubs:
Jack Payne
Shaun Brisley
Peter Ramage (Released by Coventry)
Jerome Binnon-Williams
David Gregory
Calum Jhraldho-Martin

Would anyone pay a big fee for Cox after spending pretty much an entire season out injured?

Bakinson looked quality on Saturday, though it wasn't exactly a challenging game to play in with Exeter checked out by the time he came on. Hope he's given a good run in the 1st team next season.

For the life of me I cannot understand the contract extension given to Olly Lee a few weeks ago. They already had him under contract through next season, was it really vital to lock him up for an extra year? He's not an up and coming youngster that we need on a long contract to stop someone poaching him (like McGeehan). He couldn't even find a club at the start of this season FFS. Why are we giving players like him multi year deals, everyone of his age at this level should be year to year.

Still gave out a bunch of stupid long term deals and we're still stuck with some of them next season. Like Matt Robinson, what on earth possessed Still to think he was worth such a ridiculously long contract, has he made more than a dozen starts since signing it? Thank goodness Blackpool did us a favour and bought Mark Cullen or we'd still be stuck with him on another long deal.

I wouldn't be surprised to find that Lee had an extension written into his original contract based on something or other, rather than a new decision to extend. Only guessing.

However, Lawless played in Lee's position on Sat and showed more in one game than Lee has shown in half a season. Did everything that Lee does, and more. With the manager having repeatedly praised Lawless, I do find it a strange decision, and the only one that I'm not happy with. He should get fixed up quite quickly, and will do a great job for someone, if he stays fit.

I'm happy with the decision on Jake Howells. Does OK ish in a number of positions, but wherever he plays there is someone in the squad who could do a better job. Does seem to have thrown his toys out of the pram on twitter, but given his behaviour last season when he openly said that he wanted to leave (and only changed his mind months later when he realised that no other club wanted him), I have little sympathy. He talks about loyalty, but the truth is that no-one else came in for him in all the time that he was being 'loyal'.

I think that if it wasn't for the fact that a lot of them are on longer contracts, several others could well have been released, and can consider themselves very lucky.

Smith and Doyle both have two years left, which is frankly bonkers. Almost as mad as giving Okuonghae a two year deal when he barely played through injury the season before.

I would beg to differ regarding Haber, he played his best for us alongside Ryan Lowe, now who is SD hell bent on trying to get in as his 'showpiece' signing, so then SD let's Haber go. Now, Haber is not the greatest forward we have had by any stretch of the imagination, but SD signed him, played him out of position, saw he is better with a second striker, then gets rid of him. SD is a tool.

Now if SD signed Haber, who he has seen fit to release, then what faith do we have in SD finding a decent target man, none at all for me, he should have kept Haber and played Lowe or a beefed up Saunders (please put the lad on a weights programme SD) alongside him, they would do a job in league 2.

With regard to Fox, been a major let down, but guess what, SD thought it would be a good idea to get rid of Grant and bring Fox in. More SD genius.

As for Atkinson, just very unlucky with injuries, he could have done a job.

Haber was another Pogba. A guy that looked terrible for the most part, yet somehow scored goals. I don't think he had any interest in staying. Besides, his limitations were rather large. His movement was non existent, which isn't great for a striker. His heading outside the box was a total mystery and he barely won any inside it. He wasn't a threat at set pieces, his control and hold up work was poor, he had no vision and very little technical ability. He is the kind of player that yes might score the odd goal, but he doesn't have a great impact on the game.

Atkinson couldn't have done a job, he's flat out shite. Went on loan to Crawley and got sent back after barely playing. I challenge any Crewe fan to name me one positive thing he did. What a waste of space he was.

We never publish any sort of list, but I believe the players who feature in the first team squads out of contract are:

Darren Ambrose
Dillon Barnes
Tom Eastman
Joe Edwards
Alex Gilbey
Tosin Olufemi
Elliott Parish
Nicky Shorey
Marvin Sordell
Drey Wright

Everyone knows that Alex Gilbey is off, but not sure on where yet. Would like to keep Barnes, Edwards, Shorey and Wright from the others.

Parish has been decent for a while, but Sam Walker will be back fit and we will have two highly rated U21s behind him so no need for another goalkeeper, as harsh as that may be on Parish.

Not sure about Sordell or Eastman. Eastman was POTY for a couple of years in a row, but seemed to regress this year into the weak link, he's looked really poor. I think it may be time to replace him with an established experienced head alongside Frankie Kent/Alex Wynter.

Sordell came with the fanfare but never really delivered. He played well against Charlton in the cup and in that form he would be worthwhile keeping, but I'm not sure he showed enough to justify another deal - assuming he'd even stay that is.

Talk about falling away quickly. Sordell was a very good prospect when at Watford - remember him scoring a stunner for the England U21's - so not sure what has happened to see him potentially down at this level.

Someone who is rarely wrong believes that everyone has been released and then the new manager (potentially will be revealed after the Serie C play offs?) can offer contracts to those he wants to keep. Which is what we did last year and we lost everyone.

Wicked.

Wait until next season mate, both are under contract. Dare say they'll be released whilst we look for a new manager following Gattuso?'s sacking when we finish 9th. In the meantime, Mathieu Baudry, Lloyd James and Jobi McAnuff are yours if you want..

We'll have a few quid when we sell Dack, so we'll need another attacking midfielder to replace him, and our forward line is pretty shit so we could do with a striker as well!

Happy to throw Cox and Simpson for free in return for Dack? Replacement and upgraded strike force, what's not to like? I'm sure we can persuade uncle Francesco to chuck £20k p/w at Dack so...

Throw in a decent wedge of cash and sure why not. He won't be with us come the start of the season, so I don't really mind where he goes as long as we don't get screwed over in the process!

He's from Ashford in Kent apparently (I haven't double-checked) and Jordan Cranston was bought in the January transfer window and George has been dropped a few times, somewhat unluckily in my view.

I think George is brilliant and will be gutted if he does leave. He's miles better than Cranston, defensively and going forward. May not be ready to be a starter in League One, but certainly has the potential to make the step up.
