Coming into League 1 I don't know much about other clubs standout players, so I thought it'd be interesting to hear about each club's best prospects from their fans.. I'm not scouting, honest :shifty:

Prompted by Brett Pitman scoring another brace for us today - his potential partnership with Conor Chaplin could be deadly and is our most exciting prospect in my view. We've not had a prolific centre forward in a long time, so it'd be nice if we finally did this year! Matt Clarke as well, when he's back from injury, could be a rock at the back for us.

tl;dr - boast about your club's best players

Defensively Curtis Nelson is a very good player and one of our young players Canice Carroll may make the step up and force himself in as a regular.

Midfield has Ryan Ledson in central midfield and Marvin Johnson on the left, both fine players at L1 level. Robbie Hall is looking strong this pre-season which is very encouraging. Joe Rothwell has the potential to become very good.

As for new signings, I'm very encouraged by Jack Payne, James Henry and Mike Williamson (if he stays fit) but unknowns for us really.

We lack a quality striker unless Kane Hemmings makes the step up from last season. Obika and Thomas are reasonable (Obika based on comments and record) but no more than that so may need a new striker unless either of them have a dream season.

Edit: We have a good keeper as well in Simon Eastwood. I think squad depth on top of our forward line may be problem for us.

Peter Clarke is still the absolute business at centre back.

Rob Hunt is a fantastic signing, he'll play left wing back this season. He has great footballing instincts for a youngster, classy on the ball, puts great crosses in, he'll go far in the game.

David Ball and Ryan Williams.

Ryan Williams is comfortably the best player in the division and I'll argue that with anybody.

Curtis is a very nice man and a good player. Has he kicked the habit of one major cock-up a game?

We have creativity in midfield with Carey and Lamerias, but goal scoring looks to be a problem pre-season.

Would have to be Bodin as our standout player. Broadbent would have to be our one to watch IMO. Getting his chance as a pro at 25 years old, having previously been in the Army. Has looked decent in pre-season so far and who knows how he'll develop now he has a full time professional team and staff working with him.

Yeah, it's quite simply Billy Bodin. The lad is absolutely different level. Goal scoring winger with skill above this level. Unfortunately, if he starts the season as well as I'm expecting can see him being gone in January, especially being out of contract next summer.

We've had a good transfer window. 6 standout players..

Aaron Tshibola - on loan from Villa, cost them £5m just over a year ago. Played his first game for us in a friendly against Leicester and was the standout performer. Excellent passer, tough tackler. Bit of a coup for us.

Gboly Ariyibi - on loan from Nott Forest. Classic fast-paced winger, loves his stepovers etc. League 1 seems to be his level, he did well at Chesterfield and has really shone in the pre-season games he's played for us.

Ouss Cissé - Mali international, 6'5" absolute beast as a defensive mid. Dictates play, strong tackler, box to box and can pick a beaut of a pass. Really excited to have him here this season. Signed on a free from a French 2nd tier side.

Chuks Aneke - Has always been decent at L1 level. If we can keep him fit, he runs the show. Scored one of the goals of the season against P'boro last season.

George Williams - Probably one of the best all-round defenders in the league. Won promotion with Barnsley a couple of seasons ago, a lot of their fans were surprised they released him that summer.

Ethan Ebanks-Landell - on loan from Wolves, hulk of a defender. Scored 5 goals last season from centre back. Quality at this level, has won promotion twice - last season with Sheffield United, and also with Wolves a few years back. Bit of a coup to get him, was thought to be heading back to Sheff permanently.

We're also close to signing a 'marquee' number 9 which our manager has said will be an impressive signing. Could possibly break our transfer record for a second season running.

Liam Mandeville, he was watched by prem scouts last season, can see this being a big year for him. Be Khemis French/Tunisian about to sign and appears to have plenty of skill. Alex Kiwomya pace to burn and Ben Whiteman on loan from the Blades who have very high expectations for him.

Ryan Leonard - looks like he is staying we won't accept any bids for him. Poty last 2 years - quality player.

Kightly - kept Burton in the Championship end of last season should flourish in this league.

Anthony Wordsworth - 14 goals from cm last year, creates and scores.

Simon Cox - scored a lot of goals last season after a bad start, expecting 20+ league goals this season

Glad to hear it Marked Ox, guess it was a case of more experience. His partner was a teacher at my kids' school where he really supported the school. My wife was Chair of the PTA, and after events finished he always asked where help was required putting tables and things away and just got on with it. He even turned up the day after we lost to Wycombe away in the play-offs. Very humble and no billy big boots about him. My only regret is that when I, as a School Governor, contacted the club about how good an ambassador he was I never received a reply. Fine man, good player.

Don't really want to go for any that have been around the football league so will nominate a couple of new boys as ones to watch.

Excited to see how Liam Nash will do for us. Nearly 40 goals in non-league last season and only 21.

Also very excited to see how youngsters Ben Chapman and Darren Oldaker get on, both are getting a lot of preseason praise. Oldaker reminds me a lot of Dack when he broke through at the same age.

I can do Charlton's....

Ricky Holmes.

Without doubt, our most important player. Was brilliant again against Ipswich yesterday so have no doubt he'll have another season tormenting this division and scoring great goals.

Ahmed Kashi - The bloke is too good for League One really but spent the whole of last season out injured. He's back and been immense in pre-season so it's like a new signing and in a position where we were seriously weak last season, expect him to have a good season as long as he stays injury free.

Tarique Fosu - Young bloke signed from Reading. I'll admit I wasn't overly excited when he signed but he appears to have done very well in pre-season. Quick and skillfull. Think he's going to be a real nuisance and give defenders plenty of headaches. Looking forward to seeing how he gets on.

Ledson is the best player in this tinpot league and most Oxford fans think Marvin Johnson would be pretty good as well but we can't remember because he's been played out of position for pretty much the entire time.

Ryan Williams will not even be the best player in the Rotherham team.
Semi Ajayi looks class, hopefully this year he can finally deliver the goods.

Take it you've not been to any pre season games then?

Ryan Williams is the player every team wants, someone who'll create something out of nothing and can change a game instantly as he showed Saturday.

Ajayi isn't even our best centre half. Ihekwie has that title for me.

Yeah his record with Oxford is something special isn't it?

No shock that record came with his only spell of regular football in his career so far.

"Ryan Williams is the best player in this league."

"He hasn't played enough football for us to judge his record so far."

Please. Stop.

Not sure who our one to watch or standout player will be this season, maybe Jake Reeves for standout player and Omari Patrick for the one to watch. Both have had decent pre seasons. Omari Patrick certainly won't be a first team starter, but hopefully he can impress off the bench and can have a good impact.

The best player in this league when fully fit is Nick Powell. Unfortunately a fully fit Nick Powell is a rarer sight than England winning the World Cup.

I can really tell that we have come up a level this year. In league two the forum only said there were four or five players who were the best in the league bar none. In league 1 there appear to be a lot more who have this sobriquet.

Do you agree Pompey, Donnie and Pool fans?

I've seen Powell and Williams and I can assure you that their respective champions on this forum are being silly.

Where's that second quote come from? You can't quote something that was never said.

Fucking weapon.

Name me a better player than a fully fit Nick Powell? You obviously didn't watch him rip teams in the Championship apart on one leg. If he wasn't made of glass with a horrible attitude, he'd be in the Premier League right now.
