I can really tell that we have come up a level this year. In league two the forum only said there were four or five players who were the best in the league bar none. In league 1 there appear to be a lot more who have this sobriquet.

Do you agree Pompey, Donnie and Pool fans?

I just find it ironic that arguably one of the best players being discussed, had his contract ripped up by us and given to Northampton on a plate.

Played out of position, then made the scapegoat for poor results by our sadly woeful manager at the time.

From what I've seen of Holmes since he left us, he'll take some beating if he's on form.

We had Ryan Williams on our books as a youngster during the start of our collapse. He started a few games and looked a real prospect, but like everything else at the time, he was sold. Seems to have disappeared off the radar since, and certainly not progressed as I thought he would.

Where's that second quote come from? You can't quote something that was never said.

Fucking weapon.

You implied it though, didn't you; using three-year-old stats achieved in the league below to back up your argument.

Fact is, you could end up being right and still no-one would believe you. You consistently make claims that you can't back up, and then you chuck abuse at people for having the temerity to point out your bullshit.

If Williams didn't get himself sent off in his last game for us it'd very likely Northampton would have been relegated to non league, funny how things turn out

He was a bit hit and miss for us but the quality was definitely there

Name me a better player than a fully fit Nick Powell? You obviously didn't watch him rip teams in the Championship apart on one leg. If he wasn't made of glass with a horrible attitude, he'd be in the Premier League right now.

Already said in this very thread, Ryan Ledson. Don't give me that attitude bollocks. "If he was a different player he'd be as good as Ledson". No shit Sherlock.

So it's gone from a quote to an implication...

... And I'm the one who makes claims without being able to back anything up?

Brilliant.

Absolutely, completely bailed us out that day, it might even have been him that scored the opener.

As an impartial observer i'd probably look at the Plastic's squad and say Peter Whittingham & Danny Graham who are both proven performers at a higher level.

The best player in this league when fully fit is Nick Powell. Unfortunately a fully fit Nick Powell is a rarer sight than England winning the World Cup.
Truly would cheer if Dean Lewington just clatters into him and puts him out for the season. A truly detestable player after our last meeting.
As for our standout players, I'd agree with Franchisor but add Kieran Agard, he was our top scorer last year and if he plays up top for us this year I can see him either breaking or coming close to the 20 goal mark

You should have won that. Al Habsi kept us in it with some brilliant saves, then Powell came on and completely changed the game. We went on to make the semi finals.

The extra time killed us that day, then Nick Powell came on, scored two and goaded our fans for no apparent reason. I can't remember if I cheered Afobe's first goal against Man United or Alli's challenge on Powell more when we beat them 4-0

David Ball and Ryan Williams.

Ryan Williams is comfortably the best player in the division and I'll argue that with anybody.
Remember when I was getting shouted down last month when Wigan and Rotherham fans were saying Ball was shite and I said he's a decent player.

Think its better to have a team of very good players, rather than just one or two outstanding players. Even when we had Alli when we got promoted, we also needed Grigg, Lewis Baker, Afobe, Carl Baker etc.

That's why I'm optimistic for our chances this season. We don't have one outstanding individual, we just have lots of above average/very good players for this level. Ariyibi, Tshibola, Cissé, Ebanks-Landell, Agard, Williams, Aneke, all Championship(ish) level players, many of whom have won promotion from L1 in recent seasons with other clubs.

I actually think Alli is better than those players

Definitely, but he didn't single-handedly get us promoted. Grigg and Afobe definitely had more of a contribution that season. Alli has improved a fair amount since joining Spurs tbh.

It's just hard to take "I know we had Dele Alli but..." as an argument against the need for stand out players.

Carl Baker won our Player of the Year and Lewis Baker for me was better in the short time we had him. Alli was class of course, but I'd say we still had players better that season. No denying he always had the best future though (Only trumping L.Baker because he was at Chelsea)

Looking forward to seeing Harry Bunn, he "should" stand out in this league.
Young Tsun Dai looks like he will make a very good fist of it as well.

Pitman was the difference in the game v Rochdale. First goal all about him, determination, strength and skill. 2nd just great heading technique. Was fairly quiet rest of the game to be fair. Saw a stat he scored 25 in last 24 league 1 starts. He didn't even break a sweat. In a game of very few chances.
