I think Luke McGee is going to be the stand out keeper in this division. Almost single handedly kept us in the Cardiff game 2nite. Not how much long we are going to be able to keep hold of him if he keeps this up

Never said he was the best in the league, but you can see very quickly that he's not your average league 1 goalie. He's pretty good at everything. His distribution is very good, he's tall and athletic, decision making and speed coming out is very good for a 21 year old, plus he is quite vocal. Many of us have already said he looks the best all round goalie we've had since David James was here. I'm hoping you'll see first hand on Saturday although he's bound to drop a clanger against u lot now!

You've got to watch out for secret agent Joel Grant at Plymouth. Guaranteed goals... Just maybe not at the right end.

You called him "the standout keeper". Please explain what you meant if not "best". Does he have a natty haircut or fancy shoes?
He's not gonna be as consistent as a keeper who's experienced. David Forde kept the most clean sheets last season and was one of the best keepers in the division, but I wouldn't say he stood out for me. As with any very young player they will stand out over more experienced players. Conor Chaplin stood out as hes only 20 but wasn't our top scorer

Ah I see. So you're saying he might well chuck it into his own net a few times, but he won't be as boring as Simon Eastwood. Makes sense.

No I'm saying he'll be a stand out keeper just as the thread title says name a stand out keeper. Also watch out for Matt Clarke when he's fit. Best young left footed centre half in the league.

Jake Reeves, Centre mid so won't be the sort who'll get noticed at the top of the scoring charts. But in the Friendlies and competitive games so far he's Mr consistent, usually the saying is a constant 7 out of 10, so far he's been more 8,9 out of 10. If he keeps it up he'll be a contender for team of the season, also very vocal for a relatively young lad future captain for me.

Actually you said he'd be 'the' stand out, which again implies best, but lets not get into that again. The thread also doesn't say anything about keepers, but now I'm just going too far to prove you wrong. How do you know so much about the best players in this league when you've only watched two teams play in it for 90 minutes?

The thread is stand out players, not best players other wise it would just be all the Oxford players surely!

That's funny because I'm not sat here putting all our players forward as the best left sided right footed blonde haired players in the league who haven't played more than 90 minutes in it. In fact, I am utterly free from bias and that's why I have an impeccable record of not making stupid proclamations on here.

*Thread asks for people's opinions (n.b. not definitive facts) on their club's standout players*

*Tinpot complains when someone offers their opinion on a standout player at their club*

I didn't complain at all. Merely observed that every year, 24 L1 teams have the best goalkeeper in the division.

Actually the thread asks for 'your standout player' i.e the player from your team who you think might stand out.
I agree it is rather silly to nominate someone as "the best young left sided centre half in the league" when you haven't even seen any league one centre halfs yet.

I think Jon Nolan will catch the eye this season. We have signed him on a 3 year contract, but I expect him to be playing at a higher level within 3 years.

Hopefully you'll learn from this and avoid silly predictions in the future

Jack Marriott. Top goalscorer in the league this year. 5 goals in 3 games. The next Craig Mackail-Smith.

If he stays fit, and keeps up this level of performance, nobody will get near him for Top Goalscorer.

If he does go on to score 76 goals then I agree.

I think McAleny could be in the top three if Fleetwood keep going. He is on a shit hot streak ATM

I would say our stand-out player this season will be our goalie. You will see a lot of him picking the ball out of the net, desperately kicking clear, making outstanding saves to keep us in the game and screaming and shouting at his beleaguered defence.

McGee - Portsmouth goalkeeper

Michael Jacobs - Wigan attacking midfielder

Sam Morsy - Wigan Athletic (holding midfielder for Wigan and also Egypt international. Playing below his level could definitely do it in the top half of the championship. His ability to dictate the tempo of a football match is unreal. He definitely reminds me of James McArthur before he left for Palace)

How has Jacobs progressed at Wigan? Through L1/Champ etc? While I'm at it, Hows Toney doing as well? Both Northamptonshire lads.

I see they've both had a scoring start this year.

Jack Marriott looks to be a superb find. It's hard to believe he was Luton's fourth choice striker.
