I did actually think of a better way of entering fights, I was going to save it to the end of the game feedback an ideas but now feels an appropriate time as ever:
The first come first served thing for picking matches when the fight card is posted
Rather than first come first served for picking matches when the fight card is posted, randomize an order of picking for the first week. Then each subsequent week, the team with first pick moves to the bottom of this order. It would happen fantasy sports draft style so the team at bottom of order would get first dibs for their second spot on the card (as long as they aren’t in the max number of matches already).
It still works to a deadline, but a team has to bold a list the territories they want to fight in, in order of preference in the thread any time before that deadline. Then it’s the order of picking that decides who gets to fight in which territory rather than who happened to post first.
Obviously, people want to do the best for their team, but I don’t think first come first serve really adds anything to the game. It’s just who happens to be online at the time and then obviously in the spirit of competition people will try to be online when the fight card is posted – I’m not sure that is really fun, tactical or convenient though wasting time refreshing 1FF hoping that the fight card is posted just to beat other teams to the punch.
It’s not from a SBF bias either as we managed to get first pick quite a few times but one of the great things about Wars is the extent to which you can play it at your own convenience, aka being able to get on at certain crucial times isn’t so much a part of it, and I think that should be the case as much as possible because that’s one of the things that makes it different to the more challenge based forum games.
