We lost 3-1 to Sheffield Utd last night. They scored two goals in the dying minutes.

I wasn't there, but it again sounds like we've played really well and the team spirit is coming together well. We had Danny Parslow and James Rowe on trial, both impressing. Parslow I think may be getting a deal. I can't see how Rowe fits in though as we have loads of midfielders already.

Yep, I think the one with the dog (Steve?) has found his way on here. I hope his mutt doesn't fall foul of any daft ground regulation now they're in the Conference.

I'm here! :bye:
lots of trialists involved in pre season games up to last night against Bradford City which saw more of the first team involved. Ben Parker and Olli Johnson still nursing niggles so neither have been involved so far. Bowser still looking to sign some quality additions.

All this empty space around him is because everyone is afraid of the tiger/lion/doggish creature he has there or because he's smelling bad?

That's what they call packed out at Guisly. Fancy them to do ok, Neil Aspin's replacement is doing well there so far. :bdick:

Well behaved dogs have been allowed so far ;)
There were just short of 2400 people there last night when that pic was taken

You've got to be disappointed if only 400 turned up - Guisly's biggest ever season coming up, I'd have thought City are quite a big fish for Guisly too?

Any ground improvements over the summer? Didn't look like it'd be able to hold anything close to 2,400!
Wasn't a new stand on the way?

We're playing Farsley Celtic tonight. Looks like half our team's youth, then there's a couple of unnamed trialist and maybe a few other newbies. Hope I'm not gonna miss any good goals sat at home.

Also, Farsley's manager is called Neil Parsley.

Second friendly in two days for us, away at Brigg tonight with just Marshall, Amond and Pittman the senior players playing, 3 first year pros and the rest youths apart from an ageing Paul Hurst who names himself at left back!

We just got smashed 0-6 at home to Stoke. In fairness they had a pretty strong team out and we were experimenting, players in unfamiliar positions and a lot of youth players playing in the second half. I don't really see what this game has done for us or what Mills was thinking in playing so many youth players in the second half against this sort of top quality.

There was 2,800 there though which is good for the coffers but not sure I want to see us play them again next summer because it was just non stop from them. They bummed us all game and one player stood out above them all, Van Ginkel in their midfield looked an outstanding talent. Walters got 2, Diouf, Van Ginkel and a couple more not sure who. We had basically one chance, a penalty which Bachmann saved.

Grimsby 6-0 up with only a few minutes to go. Good run out for some of our players who might not get many minutes this season.

Finished 6-0 to us, Pittman with a hat-trick, Amond with one and youth player Wroot with a late brace.

A Halifax XI just beat Farsley Celtic 5-1.

Only a few first teamers on the team sheet and Hattersley playing at centre half. Most of the rest were youth. Seems a good run out.

A 2-2 draw for us tonight against Bolton U21's.

Encouraging performance, especially in the first half, where we created plenty and looked very solid.
All three of our big strikers showed promise but I can't help but feel we need a nippy striker as an option as well. O'Hanlon and Roberts looking solid as did the trialist Ellison despite his lack of height for a centre back. Garvin was tidy, put his foot in, took some excellent corners, Rule also did very well alongside him. Pick of the bunch though was Baggie with another good performance and excellent goal.

Only worry was Morton who looked out of depth, gave away a penalty and was very lucky not to give away a second one as well.

Lost 3-0 at home to Aston Villa.

They put out a pretty strong team that featured Cole, Richardson and N'Zogbia, though I have to admit that I haven't heard of most of the rest of the team, probably new signings, fringe players and youth team. An entertaining game, plenty of neat passing football but also the odd wayward pass, Villa looked pretty slick at times but that has to be expected given the difference in league status. We were looking good at 1-0 down and even started pressing for an equaliser until a couple of defensive errors gifted them a brace of late goals, one a well taken penalty. Only worry of the night was that our keeper was carried off in the first half with what is feared to be a recurrence of an ankle injury that kept him out for the majority of last season.

Im not worrying too much (unlike some on RP) as that was a very strong team we faced. Mills will find out more about the players if they are under pressure than easy run outs against local semi pro teams.

We do need to sort out the midfield though!

Best thing about last night was Javan Vidal. Not only have we got a proper right back for the first time in years, it also looks like we've got a corker. And young Jon Royle impressed too in midfield. First time I've seen him play in that position and he coped really well against quality players. Big and strong in the air, but can pass a ball too. Continue like that and I can see him forcing his way into the starting eleven.

0-0 against Cardiff U21s in a behind-closed-doors game... Beckles trialled again, looks like one or two new trialists too.

Basingstoke on Saturday now.

Royle must surely be in the Millsiah's thinking now. Looks to have all the attributes needed to cope at this level.
