Hales is a beast.

We've started well against Essex, 3 down already.

Yeah, great response from Kent. Hopefully they can keep it up.

Some brilliant batting performances today, Sangakkara gets his ton, and he and Davies are creeping to a 200 partnership. Hales passes 200 too. I would be surprised if Surrey aren't promoted this season.

Hales' score is from only 239 balls too.

Hales is a gun, I've always been a huge fan and in limited overs he should've been one of the first names in the team for the last 18-24 months...but he's not a Test player, certainly not above Lyth and Lees. Be interesting to see how he does batting 3 rather than opening though, it's an interesting move.

middle-order doing themselves no favours early on apart from Read. Patel, Wessels and Gidman (who was supposed to be a coup in the summer) have all started poorly.

We'll see how the bowling goes. I hope we won't rue opting for Gidman's batting ahead of Fletcher (who is desperately unlucky not to be in the team but Ball and Gurney are doing well and Philander's guaranteed his spot due to his overseas stint being relatively short - but then of course, Hilfenhaus will arrive in June to replace him).

Well, Kent are on their way to a defeat barring some miracle.

Can someone clarify something for me with the points scoring system? Here are two direct quotes from the ECB website:

"In a tie, each side to score 8 points, plus any points scored in the first innings."

"If the scores are equal in a drawn match, the side batting in the fourth innings to score 8 points plus any points scored in the first innings, and the opposing side to score 5 points plus any points scored in the first innings."

I'm confused as to the difference between these two scenarios. Surely a tie is when the scores are equal in a drawn match? Am I missing something?

I'm really pleased for him , he's got to keep going now to keep the pressure on the selectors . I think he's a fantastic talent .

24 fours from a score of 133, must still be relatively fresh!

I've no idea to be honest, I have wondered in the past. Thankfully the second scenario doesn't happen too often.

A drawn match is where time runs out with no result, where as the tie is where the scores are equal with the team in the 4th innings bowled out.

Separately great stuff from Hales again.

But shocking from Somerset 180 odd from Hildreth and a good ton from Tres but otherwise :bang:

Oh yeah. That seems obvious now you've said it. Cheers.

Why the extra points for the side batting the 4th innings?

Yeah Somerset annoyed me yesterday, tres and hildreth played incredible innings and got us up to 340 odd for 2... We were bowled out for 410.

Still, maximum batting points and a very high scoring rate... Which is what we've lacked in recent years, Compton always used to hold us back from getting maximum batting points.

Finally got Lancashire all out for 444.

I never like to predict a game before both sides have had a bat but I can't see us getting anywhere near a score like that, the best we can hope for is a draw and as many batting points as we can get seeing as our inability to take wickets has cost us maximum bowling points.

We'll be lucky to avoid a follow on here!

We're certainly in a strong position now having enforced the follow on. I'd expect us to win, but it'll take a few more wickets before I'm confident.

Really pleasing to see Kyle Jarvis and Alex Davies continue their form from the opening game, although I had to feel sympathy for Davies when he fell on 99.

I've also been impressed with Ashwell Prince; he really seems to have hit the ground running. Amazing to think he wasn't going to play at all until changing his mind on retirement recently. Clearly still has a lot to offer.

Even as a Kent fan I was gutted for Davies, especially as that one run is going to have no relevance to the result now anyway.

I didn't realise, until listening to the first day on the radio on Sunday that Ashwell Prince has scored three centuries in his last three innings against Kent, looking forward to seeing him back at the crease!

Need our top order to step up if we are to have any chance of salvaging a draw from this, defeat written all over this though.

Our bowling attack is shit. Only decent bowler we have is Gregory. Set Middlesex a target of 404 to win, they're currently almost 300-3... Pretty pissed off right now :(

Kent, Gloucestershire and Leicestershire to battle it out for bottom place in division 2 this year.

Only positive I can say regarding Kent is we have played two of the promotion favourites in Essex and Lanacashire.

Worcester rack up 400 and we do that pile of shit! Will be a miracle if we make 100.

Abell should play more, looks to have potential. Unlucky losing Kieswetter like we did but Barrow is no replacement, should have gotten a wicket keeper who can bat instead of Cooper, heck I'd rather us even try and bring in Cameron Herring from Gloucestershire then keep playing Barrow. We signed Rehman when we have Dockrell as well? Said for years we should get an overseas quick bowler in, I'd have said Trent Boult if the Kiwi's weren't touring at the start, but no reason to not try and get one of the saffers so to say or an Aussie not in their tour party as they have a fair few good quick bowlers. And signing Jim Allenby? Jesus I thought he was only going to be a bit part player or be used more in limited overs, while he has a pretty good average it would have been boosted somewhat by being in Div 2.

Can see this being Trescothick's last season, he provides the odd good knock but the majority of his scores are sub 25, not what you need when he doesn't have a permenant partner.

This is just too familiar with City's decine from the championship a few years ago :(

I think Allenby is pretty good to be fair. Also, Trent Boult is playing in the IPL at the moment, so he wouldn't have been an option for a few weeks anyway. I just feel quite sorry for Somerset at the moment as it's a bit of an impossible job after losing Kieswetter and Compton in those circumstances. I think Abell is at university too, so not available every week. Gonna be a long, tough season.
