I took myself off to The Weaver Stadium last night to see how Nantwich Town fared against local League 2 opposition in Crewe Alexandra.

It was quite an entertaining game. Crewe's first 2 goals were courtesy of 2 howlers by Nantwich 'keeper Dave Parton.

The other 2 goals were later on in the game but i'm afraid i couldn't tell you who scored them.

Final result: Nantwich 0-4 Crewe

nope playing for ourselves. He had a trial on Saturday at Ilkeston FC who play a level below us too, against Notts County

Good for him! Hope he continues to improve for you guys.
No offence to you guys but that's baffling. Does he not want to play full-time anymore?

Nathan Arnold is far too good to be playing in Conference North. Alfreton must be paying him Akinde money to be there.

Not sure what's more worrying the amount of injuries we have at the mo or we've started conceded goals very easily again....
Hopefully just a one-off, although it was last seasons defence with a youth 'keeper who played.

On the plus side, and as someone on our forum has pointed out, we've scored early goals in all of our 5 games so far.

Grantham - 6th minute
Worksop - 4th minute
Boston - 9th and 12th minute
Reading - 1st and 2nd minute
Gainsborough - 4th and 7th minute

What worried me about the defence was not what we feared (i.e. lack of pace), but the complete incompetence of doing the basics. Both McCombe and Waterfall were getting shrugged off the ball by the two strikers and were sitting far too deep.

Cowley was pretty coy about whether that defensive performance meant he'd be looking at further signings there. Last night was the first time he'd have seen last seasons defensive display first hand.

He might have felt he could organise them a bit better but I'm not sure he can to the extent needed at times.

The early goals are a big positive. I do like the fact he's loyal but these players weren't up to the job and get the feeling they wont be this season either.
Waterfall is the biggest worry for me too Branston, a big man with no strength or pace. Gets knocked off the ball far too easily, his positional sense isn't good, loses a lot headers.
Last night could have been their last chance for some of the players he inherited as may have been for Caton.

Yes Nathan just is not willing to go full time. He owns a very successful Hairdressing business with premises in Grimsby and Mansfield which he just isnt willing to give up and he is eager to join us as he knows the club and we are convienient for him. Absolutely fucking delighted if we do sign him. He will tear the North apart

Cant dissagree with that but we are not paying him John Akinde money. While we must be paying a good whack I dont think its huge.

Cringin' ell.

And that's without the auto censor, that's actually how he talks.

And Arnold is nothing special, far too inconsistent. His crossing is shite most of the time.Plays well against the bigger sides occasionally, which is why he always raises his game against us like most players seem to these days.

Won 2-0 with goals from Tubbs and Noble, the latter from a 35yd free kick. Ethan Pinnock was named man of the match.
Pinnock was set to sign for Millwall in January but picked up an injury and for whatever reason it didn't go through. I think we may have picked up a gem and from what I've seen of him I think he'll start ahead of Charlie Clough (given Bennett is a shoe in and Racine is captain plus being the only left footed player in a back three helps).

Ashford's 3G pitch is one of the worst I've ever seen. Really shouldn't be massive splashes of rubber every time the ball hits the ground or the ball running so slow.....looks like they messed up the installation by putting to much rubber crumb on it.

Certainly not a good advertisement for 3G pitches.

Horrific goalkeeping for Ashford's second...

Hydes was very similar last night but that was the first game after installation. Played very slowly, every pass needed a firm hit.
Lots of passes were subsequently under hit by both teams and possession lost. It made for a frustratingly boring evening!

I'm sorry it's a joke that you can use 3G pitches in professional football. Such a unfair advantage to the team that play on it every fortnight because they are used to the strange idiosyncrasies of the surface.

Like i stated, that pitch at Ashford is one of the worse 3G pitches I've ever seen. Maidstone & Sutton have the highest standard 3G pitches on the market. They play a lot better then what you see in the video i posted.

Also last season us and Sutton both did better away than at home...any good footballing team who shows up will win. Its really not the advantage people think it is.

Have to say I agree with you about 3G pitches. Keeping a team's pitch in good condition is just as much of a skill as actually playing, it's all part of being a well run club.

Anyway, Macc drew 0-0 against a strong Wigan Athletic team and put in a very good defensive performance. We could have won it too if Jack Sampson hadn't had his penalty saved. Our good form at the end of last season looks to have carried on into pre-season, next up is Nantwich on Saturday.

Useless fact of the day - Ashford's second goalscorer plays for my sunday league side.
