We beat Leek 3-1.

Danny Whitaker, Ollie Norburn and Jack Sampson with the goals. Ollie Norburn is a class player. Hopefully we can find funds to bring him in. Just need a striker or two.

Completely agree. That first half was the best we've played so far in these friendlies. Norburn would be a cracking signing if we can manage it.

Beat three nil by Birmingham. Not outclassed but thought the failure to generate many or any chances was worrying. Clayton Donaldson bit robust for a friendly.
Was told Jack Holmes injury isn't a break which is good news.

A team of mainly youth and triallists drew 1-1 with local side Heswall, whereas a stronger side beat Vauxhall Motors 5-0, with Cook bagging himself a hattrick.

Decent workout for us, but I don't think it told us too much we didn't already know i.e. Caton needs signing and we need a Plan B for Rhead because we'll lose too many battles up there this season if he's not playing.

You could definitely see what the Cowleys are trying to drill into the players. High energy, high press, move the ball quickly.

Our first team is currently 3-0 down at Hampton and Richmond...

To be fair they did get 2 penalties in the first 25 minutes and the 3rd was an open goal after an error, however, I am quite concerned by what I saw. Yes I know it is pre-season but we were miles off the pace. No tempo, passing extremely erratic, forwards getting in each others way, poor defensive errors etc. The only real positive is we have 3 weeks to sort all of this out because if the season started tomorrow we would be in serious trouble!

Oh, and we managed to be 2 up inside the first 90 seconds with the 1st, from their KO, after about 12 seconds.

We lost 2-1 to a West Brom team that mostly featured first teamers with 2 youth players. Most our second half team was trialists including our goal scorer. Saido Berhaino got West Brom's 2 goals.

We won 2-1 at Gosport Borough. Aldershot lost 3-1 to them last week.

Drew 2-2 at Alty today, Kane Richards and Alabi with our goals.

Not the best match.

Sounds fair, I just wish the ref had let the game go on a bit longer at the start of the second half before realising that they didn't have a goalkeeper...he was still putting his kit on before coming on as a sub...don't know what he would have done if we had kicked off and scored.

Forgot that, that was pretty silly. As was some blues supporters singing some anti-IRA ditty waiting for their coach home. Maybe they misread the green bit in our name.

They had an empty goal at one point and you still didn't score?
Forest Green for relegation? ;)

Is he one of their youth players?

Just had a text from a mate who went and he said ~ shit performance.
Very positive and encouraging start by the new look Alty who should really have scored a couple more but to be fair there weren't many chances for either side. Not sure how strong Chester were, if that was the starting 11 then I'd be worried if I was a blue,.. but its very early days and you don't learn that much from games like this.

No sign of Marriott or Habergham again...

Woodyard didn't play either. Hawkridge went off injured in a 50/50 but that just look an impact one. Miles went off injured, too, after throwing himself into a tackle.

Yeah noticed no Woodyard, not good injuries this early and the lack of news on Marriott and Habergham is a worry as well.
Lets hope none are too serious and are ok for the season starting in 3 weeks time.

We weren’t great but our whole setup was a bit of a mishmash to be honest, there was no Mahon or Killock at all and then youth and trialists came on in the second half. The two genuine strikers we have both played a half each again rather than together aswell. Not to mention the fact that Vassell, Durrell and Chapell were all uncomfortably played out of position. Bizarrely our youth right back Matty Waters in the first half ended up playing left wing in the second half.

I’m not quite sure what we were doing to be honest, it was all very experimental.

Naah, they kicked off, played the ball backwards and one of their defenders ran with it towards the goal...at which point the ref noticed there was something missing from the picture, stopped play and their keeper came on.

Not fussed by the result, clearly stuff to work on which is expected plus Birmingham had a strong side out. Annoyed that for the second game running a bad tackle has injured one of our players, Traore has looked class and it would be a shame if he's for a while.

Looks more likely that Wade Elliott will get a deal now, he's part of the 22 man squad flying out to our training camp in Portugal next week, and will play on Tuesday in our game against SC Olhanense. That game should be a decent test given the heat and that they beat Ebbsfleet 4-1 a couple of weeks back.

Are any of your supporters heading out to Portugal for the game? That would be a nice trip out for you guys.
