I agree, I think we're good to start the season. We do need another striker option as a proprity IMO. Bailey Nicolls can't be expected to be amy thing more than on the fringes of the first team and he's the only real out and out striker in the squad apart from White.
Yes that's the area I'd like to see added to also. I thought the same about Bailey Nicholls but I don't know, he looks like he could be a good strike partner for White, he's definitely built for this league. I'm sure Bakare could play striker if needed as well, as he seems to be able to finish. Any ideas what formations Mills has been going with so far? I can't work out if it's 4-3-3 or he's going with 1 striker.

Tranmere 3-3 MK Dons, in a bizarre behind-closed-doors-until-today friendly in Dublin. I believe the Dongs wanted it kept under wraps for whatever reason, but must have changed their mind at the last minute.

Mekki and Norwood put us 2-0 up, but Franchise recovered to 3-2 by half time. Kirby scored our equaliser just before the final whistle set up by Connor Jennings.

One of the weirder friendlies I remember us playing.

Drew 0-0 with Wigan tonight, pretty uneventful although a good test for our new defence, which stood up well.

Not surprising we didn't create much, still only two strikers and they played a half each. The final area to strengthen now.

Beat Cardiff 3-1. Played three at back and looked a bit lost for a while and.Cardiff scored. Traore was excellent, seemed to be getting to every other ball. He got hauled down but Doidge hit the pen straight at the keeper. Another pen soon after, Moore fouled this time and he scored it.
Seemed ti grow into the system and we're starting to dominate possession even. Carried on second half and tubbs now on curled in a good effort. Last was lovely move on the break with Meyhew applying the finish.
All the new boys looked good I thought, Pinnock on right of midfield won his share and Chemlal decent too, tho Traore stood out. Few hairy moments at the back but hopefully that'll get sorted, though not sure Frear can tackle back enough.

Pinnock wasn't right mid, him and racine were centre backs, but when they push up whoever is sitting in midfield falls back and covers, was very impressed tonight, our play was quality great passing football and a joy to watch :) all our new signings looked very good indeed, Maxted can fuck off though

How close to a first team was the starting Cardiff side do you know? Thought their number nine showed.some great strength.

First half their team included macheda who scored ex man utd , le fondre a very good championship player and about two other first teamers, second half mostly youth :) but even we put 3 of our youngsters on and they looked very good.

Alfreton 1-1 Sheff Wednesday

Having head trepidations about this season after last night I am much happier!

The new faces look to have settled in already and we held our own against an extremely strong Sheff Wed XI in each half. Restricting 9 million pound signing Steven Fletcher to one chance and generally coping extremely well. Wednesday didnt trouble our GK at all until the hour mark.

We posed a threat throughout with Dan Bradley looking fit and the legend that is Paul Clayton looking like he had never been away.

We could do nothing about the Wednesday goal either! An absolute 35 yard worldie from barry Bannan. Great strike!

Credit where it is due though we kept going and got our just deserts in the dying embers of the game when we forced one last corner which founds it way to Todd Jordan of all people who delivered a pinpoint cross for the legend that is Paul Clayton to equalize.

Still its early doors but things are looking good. Think our pre season programme has let us down. We need a few games against lower league opposition so we can enjoy some possession and not chase the ball around for long periods.

You can see the Bannan strike here -

Yesterday we apparently played Birmingham U21's in a behind closed doors friendly and won 2-1 and we also played Huddersfield and won 6-2.

Yeah it was a little alarming at times. I envisage us getting caught out at times this season. Lots of 4-3, 3-2 type results.
I'm not sure who the last team to win the league that scored loads of goals but also having a leaky defence was. It's a dangerous way to go at it, you might just walk into a day or two when your strikers just can't hit the back of the net and you get hit on the break.

Looks like we're likely to be using the sweeper keeper with a back 3 pushing up to the half way line which will mean lots of our players in the opposition half and lots of space in behind our defence. Should be entertaining to watch if nothing else.

If we ship 60-70 goals but score 100+ I'd be more then happy.

We're at Leek Town tomorrow, a Conference team of the past, which shows in the standard of the ground and pitch they've got. Not expecting much from this match - we never win in pre-season - but hopefully John can unearth the top striker we need in the next few games.

White already injured . Proof in the pudding that we need to sign another striker. I just keep having visions of the Danny Wright season . Possibly would have been promoted if he hadn't of been out , was our only goal threat.

What was basically a youth team, plus Keanu Marsh-Brown on his way back to full fitness after an operation, played against Bishops Cleeve last night and suffered a narrow 3-2 defeat. The night was spoiled by Jack Holmes being stretchered off with a suspected broken leg following what has been described as a dreadfull two footed challenge. This is further bad luck for a promising player who had to wait well over an hour for an ambulance to arrive after breaking his back during an academy game at The New Lawn last season. All our hopes and thoughts are with Jack and we wish him a speedy recovery.

I still remember going down to the 1990 FA Trophy final when we beat Leek 3-0 and overtaking a coach with a sign saying "Macclesfield Town fans supporting Leek Town" in the back window

We would have definitely beaten Brighton in the FA Cup replay that's for sure, he was destroying them.

I think Mills knows he needs to sign another striker but he doesn't want to rush and is waiting for the right man, which I'm fine with. I'm sure White is just a precautionary.

You'll be needing a lot of luck to get promoted like that then. If it goes wrong you could get hammered somewhere.

We beat a young Reading side 4-1, having been 2-0 up after 2 minutes. Caton, Muldoon, Waterfall and Wood with our goals.
