Kidderminster 4-1 Hereford

Really dull first half, brilliant second half. Good performances from Dieserevue, Waite and Ngwatala and Austin looked good when he came on. We really struggled to break Hereford down in the first half and if anything they looked the better team as we just seemed to invite pressure, but as soon as the first went in shortly after half time the floodgates opened and we could have had a couple more. Outrageous finish for Hereford's off the underside of the bar. Looking forward to next years game at Edgar Street.
One sour note was Ty Williams being stretchered off. Hopefully won't be too serious.

Brimscombe & Thrupp 1-9 Forest Green.
They are in the Hellanic League, 4 Divs below, but to be fair they beat us 1-0 in preseason last year and we'd put out an equally strong side.
Two each for Liam Noble, Elliott Frear and Christian Doidge.

We should put our attendance in the away support thread too, decent turn out despite the long trek over Minch Common :D

We beat Wycombe 2-1 tonight. Rendell and McClure scored within the first 10 minutes, De Havilland scored a late consolation for Wycombe.

More importantly, we generally played well until we brought a few trialists on 2nd half which seemed to upset the balance of the team. Far more encouraging than Hampton 10 days ago.

Telford 2-3 Wrexham. Got my first look at our new team this evening and I was extremely impressed. The game started off quite slowly and Telford had more attempts on goal, which included a stunning save from Dunn from a deflected shot. But once we got our first goal we were very fluid in our play, pass and move at its best. The stand out performers were Rooney (exceptional), Rutherford (best player on the pitch, works extremely hard) and Barry (this season's Dean Keates). The defence looks the best we've had for a while, especially the centre half pairings (Tilt won't be down here long). Everybody seems comfortable on the ball and even though he had a few bad touches, Bakare got in the right areas and ran some brilliant runs and got himself 2 goals.
On another note, I'm not sure why we let Danny Reynolds leave as he looked very sharp and technically brilliant tonight for them, obviously didn't impress enough in the reserves..

We drew 1-1 against an ex-Stones XI, aka Leatherhead. Our goal scored by the one guy we picked up from them, Vas Karagiannis.

York lost 2-1 at home to Doncaster,he played strongest team,we are also playing Harrogate away tonight on new 3G pitch but playing rest of squad,I find this a little baffling because our first game is at Maidstone on 3G surely it would of been wise to play strong team tonight to get used to playing on it?

2-0 down at HT against Posh but 2-2 in the end with Rhead missing a penalty.

Poor first half, better second by the sounds of it.

Demolished Barnet 3-2 last night, the scoreline flattered them. We were exhilarating going forward but still defensively frail, hence the score line.
Not sure i'm seeing any real improvement in our back 4, despite 3 of them being new & supposedly improved signings. The lack of pace is scary!

Lulling everyone else into a false sense of security by looking shite in pre season is an age old trick. Not fooling me. Dark horse status confirmed..

Braintree have had to cancel another friendly due to the state of their pitch...

Its becoming quite the farce now.

Lost 2-1 at home to Orient last night but it sounded very encouraging nonetheless.

How is having a 3G pitch anyway tinpot?? It makes us a lot of money and its a lot better quality then some of the god awful pitches I've seen over the years.

Also id rather have a pitch that means games don't get called off whenever we have a bit of rain. Away fans won't be moaning either, knowing they won't have a wasted trip

Also didnt FGR fire their groundsman & your manager was moaning he had to maintain the pitch?? pretty tinpot for a club with your financial clout :)):

Says the fan of a club who are too tinpot to have any sort of grass pitch whatsoever.
Another own goal Chris, as Raymondo316 rightly points out.
But I will say our pitch currently looks good, the new groundsman is doing a fine job.

Yeah that was all bullshit, Pennock made up the story about maintaining the pitch and got himself photographed holding a mower to make some vague, pathetic attempt to curry favour with the fans about how much hard work he was putting in to distract attention from the shit run of form that cost us the title last season - LWDDDDDL - I think it was before that story appeared.

3 transfer listed players, 4 back up, a trialist and our academy got beat. None of the players who beat Gillingham at the weekend took part. Trialist Akpa Akpro missed a free header and we dominated the first half but with Sean Batt up front were never going to hit the target, 17 & 18yo rookie keepers made 2 basic mistakes, otherwise it was an even contest for our bench contenders with Eastleigh having the better of the second half.

Read my earlier post re extensive drainage work carried out during the close season. The league insisted we did this due to our pitch problems in the past, however work was behind schedule due to the contractors being unable to start 3-4 weeks later than planned.

Lost 2-1 at Harrogate last night, only really 3 players that will be in the first 11 against Maidstone.

Harrogate looked decent, seemed to not realise it was a friendly though judging by them flying into tackles and picking up a few bookings

That was pretty feisty for a friendly, alright.

Out of interest, which three would you have for Maidstone? Higgins, Nti and Thompson maybe? Nobody really made much of a case for a starting slot except maybe Thompson. Brodie made a pretty good case for him to be shipped out on loan to the Evo-Stik.

Final home pre season friendly for us tonight against Forest Under 21s. Hopeful of a win here to help get some belief and morale in the players.

We have three remaining, local neighbours Shortwood this evening and Swindon Supermarine next week, which are likely to be a mix of academy, youth, maybes and Noble who is on the naughty step for the start of the season. Tomorrow we have Newport County at home, the game that is likely to feature a team somewhere close to the starting line up for next week. This should show us exactly how far advanced the new system is against an opponent not far above us in league status. We also have the chance to welcome back Jon Parkin and a couple of other former Rovers.

Alfreton 3-3 Nottingham Forest XI

A really entertaining pre season game with some barnstorming goals.

Fabien Spiess yet again for the THIRD time this preseason came charging out and sent a player sprawling. I am already tired of him and its pre season!

Other than that nothing we could do abut two absolute worldies from Forest. One a snap shot from 25 yards and another a screamer from all of 30.

We were much improved in an attacking sense but there are still serious issues that needing addressing. The GK position and we need a right back.

Where do I start off the pitch? We are a joke. 14 fit players tonight and just 3 subs and the season hasnt even started. Skeleton crowd (even for us) of just 376 thanks to woeful publicity. (No functioning website, no coverage in papers now and even twitter updates have stopped. There is no information coming from the club at all its pathetic.

I dread to think of season ticket sales and I can see Wayne becoming unhappy and things going down hill quick...
