Big, annual Harrogate Classico yesterday which Harrogate town won 8-0 against Harrogate Railway. Been playing some good football albeit against the likes of Cleethorpes (3-2), Hyde (3-0) and Knareborough Town (3-0).
Better test will be York at home on Wednesday. Jordan Robertson continues to impress on his trial spell with us with 6 goals in 3 games, a good potential addition to an already robust looking forward line. (Sorry Alfreton fans, our signings have been wholly unoriginal this year)

Only downside is that we have not really got a preseason programme that tests us, York apart. Does anyone else follow a club with a similarly 'weak' looking preseason programme.

Haha.Yeah You have basically signed everyone that impressed in our 3-2 win at the CNG last season!

Jordan Robertson was ok for us in the first couple of months. He had something like 9 goals before the end of October but after that he went off the rails, stopped putting the effort in and his general attitude stinks. A real bad apple in the dressing room I think.

Now i remember why i rarely bother with pre season......what a dreadful game!! Made even worse that our stewards were treating it like a league game.

Weren't allowed to have a beer why watching the game
Weren't allowed to keep the lid for my bottle of water because of ''rules''
Demanding to search my 8 year old nephews backpack...cos apparently FA rules state they have to check everyone with a bag

Yes im sure an 8 year old is gonna have something really dangerous in his spider man backpack....give me strength :ffs:

Welcome to the conference. Every match is going to involve all the bad parts of FA Cup fixtures.

No beer in sight of the pitch. Drinks have to be sold without lids to prevent hooligans throwing them at players. As stupid as these rules are they all have a history in the game which is why they come about. There has been a history of thrown objects at conference level, and the rules came in about drinks while we were there. As stupid as they seem I have seen bottles thrown on the pitch in games both with and without lids, and it does make a huge difference.

As for searching the kid's backpack, well it's a matter of if the kid packed it themselves. I've heard of far more unbelievable stories than an adult putting a few tins in a kid's backpack to get out when they get past security.

As stupid as it all seems, it's probably for the best for these to be enforced in preseason to give the club some practice enforcing these rules and get the fans used to them. It's better to have you all moaning now than when the first home matches kick off.

Was surprised to see Aaron O'Connor appear - surely he wouldn't want to come in and effectively be back-up to Ross Hannah?

I did find it interesting when I heard it. He's had a recent history of a number of injuries, but he is a proven goalscorer at this level. I guess being backup with a liveable wage is better than struggling to make ends meet while being the top dog or not having a club.

With the backpack thing I had mine checked before our visit to Maidstone in April (although I'm significantly older than 8!). Playing at this level is a bigger deal than the Conference South, bigger away crowds and the associated risk that brings. I can see why the rules are the way they are. It only takes one idiot to create a bad reputation

Stockport ran out 4-1 winners against a poor Blackburn U21 side on Saturday.

Went into the break 2-0 up from John Marsden and Danny Lloyd (pen). Pegged back early in the 2nd half but further goals from Josh Amis (pen) and Craig Carney (trialist).

We've got Wigan U21's tomorrow night, then Macclesfield away on Saturday before we kick off at home to Alfreton on the 6th.

Going on the first part of last season, O'Connor is still capable of being a very decent striker at this level. He got 9 in 13 starts for us, before falling out with Pennock. Looked sharp, quick, made good runs and has a good shot on him. A few of our fans would have quite liked to have him back. Would be a good signing for Barrow imo.

I certainly thought he showed enough and when you consider lack of goals was a big part of the problem in the run in, surprised we let him go.
Won't make Slimbridge tonight but should get along to The Meadow tomorrow for Brimscombe and Thrupp, beer on the grassy bank is always nice.

He's clearly a bad apple. He doesn't like how things are going under the manager so he kicks up a fuss rather than being professional and respectful, no one needs that.

I'd heard that said about him in general but no reports of him doing that with us, not that I'm exactly Mr Ear-to-the-ground or anything.

Cox says that he was clearly angry at not getting many games over the past 18 months and determined to do well. Definitely wants to sign him. He'd only be a substitute for us (not sure if Hannah is prone to injuries?) so not sure we'll get a deal worked out.

Our defensive set-up has failed to convince so far this preseason. I know with three at the back we may need to accept more 3-2 type results this season than 1-0, but it will be interesting to see how the fans (and management) react if we start August with a few 2-3 results, as I don't think many of our defenders have settled into the formation and style of play very comfortably.

Peterborough tonight for us, although they're playing Brentford as well.

Apparently the two teams will be a split between first team and U21/youths.

I thought it looked OK against Cardiff, though they sat back a bit and allowed us to play, whereas Birmingham were far more in our faces and the defence struggled at times to contain them. However, I would expect it to take a bit of time to settle into the different formation and hope the fans are patient with the team and manager.

Alfreton Preseason so far

Sheff Wednesday (H) D 1-1
Grimsby (H) L 0-1
Notts County (H) D 0-0
Mansfield Town (H) D 1-1

Very meh.. The players have acquitted themselves well in the games and there have been plenty of positives but all the games have taken the same pattern of chasing the ball down for 90 minutes and the goalkeeper position looks a concern.

Nottingham Forest U21s to come on Friday and I think we might try and squeeze another game in a week tonight

Well, I didn't see much good football against Garforth.
Harrogate are a HUGE team....from back to front

Sat 09/07 v Whytleafe (a) 1:0 W
Sat 16/07 v Carshalton Athletic (a) 0:2 L
Wed 20/07 v Sutton United (h) 1:1 D

Tue 26/07 v South Park (a)
Sat 30/07 v Farnborough (a)
Tue 02/07 v Hampton & Richmond Borough (a) - Isthmian Charity Shield
Sat 06/07 v Corinthian-Casuals (a)

3 down, 1 cancelled & 4 to go for K's in pre season. Oddly looking forward to the Charity Shield game - it'll be my first attended game of the (pre) season & by far our biggest game of the summer with a (albeit not very coveted) trophy at stake.

Looking back at what we've done so far it's not very awe inspiring... only beating Whyteleafe by a single goal, being defeated by Carshalton & letting in a last minute penalty to tie with Sutton. Hopefully we can kick on, get some more respectable results on the board in our final 4 games to give us a bit of a confidence boost going in to our last season in Wombletopia.

Blackpool for us tonight. Imagine the team that starts tonight will be pretty close to the one that starts at Bromley. Cook has been injured for a week so hopefully he gets a game.

I got out of work late so couldn't make it to the game but we are currently beating Rochdale 2-0. Danny Whitaker and Chris Holroyd with the goals.

Currently beating Accrington 2-0 - Hannah with his third penalty in three games, and Jordan Williams.
Worryingly for Accrington, they've only managed to name 3 on the bench (judging by the team sheet), with a triallist in the first XI. They also signed a reserve midfielder released by us, and were turned down by Jason Walker in the past week. They struggling at the moment?

FT: Macclesfield 2-0 Rochdale.

Whitaker and Holroyd.
It was a surprisingly comfortable victory in the end. We played really well as a whole, although in fairness Rochdale were very poor. Quietly we're starting to feel confident about a play off push this season.

Pen (not sure who scored) & Peers for Telford. 2x Bakare and 1 for Rutherford for us. Sounds like first half Telford were unlucky to be behind whereas we were comfortable in the second half (even though they scored two!)

Telford look like they've got a decent team for their level this season.

I wasn't there, but the forums suggest we were the better side. Blackpool could be in for another tough season.

Bit of a tight encounter at brimscombe, ran out nine one winners. Soft pen for the Lilywhites blotted the copy book. Lovely ground, barrel of Stroud ale cheap and a decent run out. We lost this one last year!
