Is the man, the legend Barrie Smith still turning out for you? Still a minor cult hero at our place.

Lost 1-0 at St Johnstone who were full strength. Not that bad a result I suppose for a Conference team. No cutting edge upfront apparently, which is a minor worry ahead of the new season. Defence looking solid, though.

Last two games have seen one upfront, hopefully Harrison has seen that we look guano and gives Amond a strike partner when we kick the season off, had enough last year watching that one striker bollocks that served us so well, I've seen two games so far this pre season, Harrogate we looked like dog shit whereas against an almost full strength Sunderland we looked excellent.

6-1 win over Reading's under-23's yesterday. The last two final pre-season games will give me a more accurate reflection as to where we are ahead of the league campaign.

We were away to Berkamstead Town and won 3-0.

The game didn't really set the world alight. Berkamstead never really looked threatening.

Our first goal was quite decent though. I believe it was a trialist who took a swing at it from about 5 yards outside the box and it swung straight into the net. The other 2 goals were fairly straightforward finishes.

Plenty of slide-tackling on a slippery pitch in the drizzly conditions and some of the tackles were looking like a leg waiting to be broken. Thankfully none of that happened just a few going home with bruises I'd imagine!

The lad who I said was upfront for Hemel Hempstead last week and was a bit lazy actually turned out for us yesterday. He wasn't in the offside trap as much and used a bit more energy good to see he's worked on his performance. Believe he is David Pitt (a Vicentian international).

Our next game is against Harrow Borough on Tuesday night at HOME AND ON THE GRASS AND NOT IN THAT 3G CAGE!! Ive heard it's a pay what you want aswell.

I went to this, Spennymoor looked really good but struggled to convert their superiority to goals in the first half, it was somehow 1-0 to Tad at half time.

Nice one, must have been a cracking second half for entertainment with 7 goals.
I read Rob Ramshaw played a blinder for Spennymoor.

Too many useless trialists in a second half we lost 4-0!

Was your 2nd half team ACTUALLY full of trialists??

2nd Half Team
Alex Gogic
Jared Hodgkiss
Kieran Kennedy
Keith Lowe
David Fitzpatrick
Mitch Hancox
Courtney Richards
Ryan Lloyd
Scott Burgess
Danny Whitaker
Tyrone Marsh

Subs who came on
Courtney Meppen-Walter 62'
Ben Pattie 62'
Tomi Adeloye (62')

Pretty sure most of these players are contracted for next season already?

You're correct- not sure why our fans keep saying that. Gogic was the only trialist who started the 2nd half with three coming on after the hour. Gogic was at fault for your 2nd/3rd and 4th goal imo.

For such a big keeper, he seemed glued to his line! Think our 3rd goal was just very well worked. Could he have been quicker off his line.....maybe? I'm not sure. Deffo the 4th goal though. Oswell was marked by a player much smaller than he and managed a diving header in the 6 yard box. Keeper should have just come and caught it.

Just beat Eastbourne 2-1 to pick up our first win so might as well hand the trophy to us now it will save you all the hassle of the next 9 months.

You're correct in the sense that it wasn't entirely trialists, but it was more a short way of saying that the team from 60 minutes onwards (the predominant period where we were completely outplayed) was a team that consisted of trialists, players who had never played with the other players, probable substitutes/reserves at the start of the season and players playing out of position.

1st half:
Jalal - will be 1st team, did nothing wrong
Fitzpatrick - will be 1st team, did nothing wrong
Pilkington - arguably at fault for County's 1st goal, but it was his first minutes of pre-season and will be 1st team, having been player of the season 3 years running
Lowe - I thought he played well throughout the whole game and is likely to be 1st team
Hodgkiss - same as Lowe, but even better and likely to be our captain
Durrell - came in and out of the game, but looked useful
Baba - excellent
Richards - my MOTM for us
Arthur - trialist, and probably our weakest performer in the 1st half
Marsh - scored and played well - first choice striker
Wilson - scored and played well - first choice striker

2nd half (from 60 mins):
Gogic - trialist and at fault for at least 2 goals
Meppen Walter - trialist and useless
Kennedy - signed the day before, looked incredibly rusty and like he didn't have a clue who his team mates were, was at fault for the penalty
Lowe - as in the first half, played well throughout, all goals came from the other side of defence
Hodgkiss - as above, played well throughout, all goals came from the other side of defence
Adeloye - trialist and not good enough
Whitaker - most likely (along with Burgess) 1st team player next season of the team from 60 mins onwards, but was dragged down to our other players level
Hancox - I think he'll be a sub in our first game, but he was very poor in this game
Lloyd - best player for Macc in the 2nd half
Burgess - the 2nd of the 2 players in this half likely to be a first team starter in our first game of the season - tidy on the ball and played ok
Pattie - trialist and forgotten him already

That was what I meant in my original one line post - there was a substantial difference in quality between our two sides as the game went on and you began to completely dominate. Stockport looked a decent side but 3 of the goals in my opinion in that second half came directly from trialist errors, so they did have a big impact on the game.

Good post and some fair comments made.

Couple of things I would point out though.............

1. We were already 4-2 up before the 62nd minute introduction of Pattie, Adeloye and Meppen-Walter.
2. Your GK was certainly at fault for the 2nd and 4th goals in my opinion.
3. It was Keith Lowe that was attempting to stop Warburton for the first goal, not Pilkington.

To be fair, I get your point that your first half team was stronger and played much better. Had you not made the changes, perhaps it would have been a different story. Just found it slightly disrespectful to our players to say it was 'full of trialists' when that wasn't really the case.

Moving on from that, I quite like Macclesfield and go down the Moss Rose if I get the chance.

Best of luck for the up coming season.

FGR are that scared about playing us in pre-season they've cancelled the friendly blaming a "poor pitch".

Thanks - sorry if you found my original post disrespectful, it wasn't intended that way. I thought as much as our team got weaker as the game went on, Stockport (particularly their movement) were good throughout and you had some good players.

I agree with 1 and 2, but with 3 I more saw it as your player got past Pilkington far too easily earlier in the move, which I attributed to his rustiness. Your player then ends up 1 on 1 with Lowe and finishes well, but I wouldn't particularly blame Lowe for that - I thought he was too exposed by then.

Good luck for the season, it would be nice if we got the local derby back in a competitive fixture once again.

Apparently still on but behind closed doors. We obvious wanted to spare your blushes. Ahem.
Pitch did look behind schedule against the Gas last Saturday, story is some contractor let us down on end of season work.

3-1 up against Fleetwood Town, Norwood with a brace and Dawson (I think) with the third.

Buxton not Dawson.

Very comprehensive performance, not sure on the strength of the fleetwood side in display but we dominated start to finish with their goal coming from a worldie of a free kick.
