Beat Oakham United 9-0. City starting XI a pretty even mix of first XI and those likely to start the season on the bench.

Finished 3-0 vs Crewe. A Whitaker penalty won by a trialist who then scored one himself. Then Lloyd from close range right at the end. Not bad.

Alfreton 1 - 5 Notts County XI

Excellent first half. Its so refreshing to see us play as a proper functioning football team with slick pass and move. Problem was it only last 45 minutes tonight. Second half was an absolute car crash. Notts looked very good for a reverse side and were well organised but it was a little bit of a car crash from us and shows we are far from the finished the article.

Our disastrous night was compounded further when Cecil Nyoni took a knee to the side of the head and was left concussed and was sent in an ambulance with Gas and air tonight. Get well soon Ces!

Not unduly concerned. Plenty of positives. Lets see how we react.

We have added an away friendly against a Step 5 team in the form of Midland League side Long Eaton United for next Tuesday night.. Just what we need I think. Plenty of time on the ball and hopefully a hatful of goals.

We did everything but score this evening, Hornchurch's keeper had a blinder!

Brackley 2 - 2 Diamonds

A tight game, which it seems Brackley had the better of, but we managed to come from behind twice. Another decent result against a side from a couple of levels above us. Our preseason schedule now has us play Rushden & Higham, Winslow and Corby Town, so we should be looking for good results in all of those hopefully to get us ready for the season.

Stockport County 0-0 Bolton Wanderers.

Bolton's squad was a good number of younger players and trialists with but Ben Alnwick, Mark Little, Derik Oyese, Darren Pratley, Sammi Ameobi, Chris Taylor and Adam Armstrong all starting.

Didn't manage to make the game myself but didn't sound like a classic. No doubt a good defensive display from us though against Championship opposition.

Went to the Salford v Bury XI game last night. Ended 2-1 to Bury but they've got a decent set up nowadays at Salford. They've got a tidy ground and some quality players for tier 6. Redshaw caused us problems and they played some nice football.

They tired with about 20 minutes to go which is to be expected when they are facing opposition in a higher division. From what I saw of Salford I'd back them to win the conference north next season.

Unfortunately couldn't make tonight's game. but we got a decent result.
Gateshead 1 Darlington 1 (Jordan Preston 10') and (David Syers 71')

Going of the match report, sounds like we more than held our own against NL outfit Gateshead.
Joe Wheatley rattling the crossbar with 4 minutes remaining, a draw was probably a fair result in the end.

Without a shadow of a doubt i absolutely agree they have a decent set up, but saying that it helps having a bit of financial clout. Especially a Singapore-based billionaire Peter Lim, the owner of Valencia CF.
Who has a 50% stake in the club, at the end of the day it's only money. I'm so jealous :shut:
Btw, great result last night for Bury.

And Gary Neville still reckons on twitter their budget is not top three in the league. Yeh right! And It's hardly a great result beating a team three divisions below you in a pre season friendly. Let's not get carried away.

Bit late but we lost 1-0 to Harrow Borough on Tuesday night.

Considering it was the ground (re)opening it was one hell of a crap match. No real flow to the game from either side. Although overall Harrow just about deserved the win.

Onto Leatherhead again in the stadium on Saturday.

This is the same Gary Neville that was born and grew up in Bury, who's mother and father worked at the club for decades, yet he deicided to invest in a Man U spin off project instead of his hometown club.

Beat Morcambe 2-1
I went to this game, thought Fylde looked fine. Last game before the big kick off is a little more relevant than any others and they looked to be a side more than capable of challenging towards the top. Looked like they have been playing together for a while.
Was very impressed with the setup.
- organisation around the ground re parking was top notch, although I warn you, you will get moaning on here re the 5 quid charge once the free parking is full!!
- stadium is clearly not a cheap build. Loved the floodlights. One minor gripe is fairly limited toilets on the home terrace.
- The Oxford end is understandable given the fact the club is growing but you can tell that a stand can be built very quickly if necessary, everything is in place.
- Away end is a good size.....although whilst Tranmere fans may not agree, vast majority of clubs will have no complaints.
Also noticed the acoustics are very good. Regrettably (and to their shame in a PSF) the Morecambe fans were chanting and the noise coming off the 50 or so doing it was very loud due to the height and design of the roof.
As new builds go, definately a thumbs up from me.

Tomorrow we finish our pre-season preparations with a home game against Socks and Sandals FC (Barrow, for those who haven't been on the 'Confirmed signings' thread recently).

Played them last pre-season and narrowly lost 1-0. Should be a good final test for us prior to the start of the season away at Spendymoor.
